Most Nigerians Are Guilty Of This Bad Thing! by LegendaryGrafix(op): 12:26am On Aug 27, 2025
There’s one guy I know, let’s call him Chuka. Chuka was a normal hustler in Kaduna. He had a small shop where he sold phone accessories. Every month, he made just enough to pay rent and manage life. But anytime he scrolled Instagram or even WhatsApp, he would see his mates posting pictures with new cars, popping drinks at clubs, traveling to Dubai.

At first, he ignored it. But with time, the pressure started eating him. His family would call and say, “Your mates are doing well, when will you also make us proud?” Even his girlfriend started dropping subtle hints: “Baby, don’t you think it’s time you upgrade? At least get a car, people will respect you more.”

Chuka began to feel like he was failing in life. He wasn’t lazy, he wasn’t useless, but because he wasn’t living up to society’s standard, he carried shame everywhere he went. One day, out of frustration, he joined some friends who were into Yahoo. He told himself it was temporary, that once he made it small, he would leave.

Within months, Chuka was driving a Mercedes Benz. His parents praised him, his girlfriend became proud again, even his neighbors started calling him “boss.” On the outside, he looked like he had arrived. But on the inside, he was drowning. The fear of EFCC, the lies, the sleepless nights, the emptiness, it was killing him slowly.

One evening, while sitting alone in his car, he confessed: “This Benz no dey sweet me. I thought once I got it, my life would change. But now I realize I only did it for other people. I don’t even recognize myself anymore.”

And that’s the painful truth: many Nigerians are living like Chuka. We let societal pressure push us into things we don’t want, into debts we can’t repay, into lifestyles we can’t sustain. We kill ourselves trying to prove a point to people who don’t even care.

This is a raw reminder that until you stop living for people and start living for yourself, nothing will ever feel enough.

Because the truth is, peace of mind will take you farther than any Benz.

No be lie..

It takes a lot of self encouragement for someone who's in china's shoes to overcome pressure.

But then again, most times now,I thank God for not falling for such things when the pressure really got into me as at 3-4 years ago.... I even had to cut ties with some of my friends whose pressure and influence could have made me to go astray........

I remembered when I first started driving my first Keke,a good friend of mine from way back in poly boarded my keke then....The dude was kinda mocking me cuz he was doing Yahoo and was one of the big boys in town as at then.. but I didn't mind him.....

Re: Most Nigerians Are Guilty Of This Bad Thing! by Mayydayy(m): 1:35pm On Aug 27, 2025
Our society is the biggest culprit in all this. Poverty has eaten into our souls to make us think the only thing that matter is the amount of money one has.
It's already too late....the only thing our society worships is wealth and young and old are going the unfathomable length to have it.

Re: Most Nigerians Are Guilty Of This Bad Thing! by FavouriteOfGod(f): 1:35pm On Aug 27, 2025
Lol... What a nice way to capture the story and pass on the message!

Indeed many Nigerians are guilty of this in allowing societal pressure get to them and push themselves in doing things or forcing stuffs that shouldn't have been at the time.

I know two friends that exactly fit your description. One reality about Yahoo Yahoo especially the Azaman aspect (not Fintech guys) is that once you join them, kiss goodbye to a decent lifestyle and also kiss goodbye to future savings and investment because your enjoyment will be up and down and also temporary.

You'll definitely join a gang that makes you lavish the money you steal on expensive cars, hotels, party and liability girls and don't forget you are regular customer and tax payers to police and EFCC agents until you are arrested and everything will be collected from you to start afresh

Depends on how you view it..

It actually worked out for some people. Some people are so mentality lazy that they’re ready to do nothing until they see a ginger or something like spark… So, it’s all depends on oneself..

But pressure or no pressure, just ensure you’re making the money!

Re: Most Nigerians Are Guilty Of This Bad Thing! by SeriouslySense(m):
Just ensure you do not go into any crime that can implicate you.

We should try to value integrity and knowledge, and shun any crime.

A society that values money will destroy itself when hard times come, while a society that values human beings and knowledge is resilient even in hard times, one of the problems of our society is the lack of unity and the negative competition between different factions within it. It has created deep mistrust and ill intentions.

How will a society work when people cannot come together to do good for themselves cheesy

You see Europeans, when they were mono societies they thrived and they also cooperated very well, and they had a culture that made everyone have a sense of belonging. With a good vision for the society in general, they placed attention to knowledge and not fetishes.

Youths are neglected, today they run to Sudan, tomorrow to Afghanistan, or to Japan, some just want to run anywhere, they go into more troubles, everyone says, why do they run from their country and not build it up. With more research nowadays, youths are able to navigate the complexities of migrations, and it helps them to thrive, other times blindly migrating to another country leads to further desperation, crimes and implications, giving them a bad image and reducing the prestige of the country and its oppurtunities.

Legit hustle pays. It may take some time, but if you constantly upscale your approach, you will get there with time.
As for fast-lane hot wealth, it implodes with time.

1. At the point of arrest of Abas aka Husspoppy - About $41 million in cash, 13 luxury cars valued at around $6.8 million, and phone and computer evidence containing more than 100,000 fraud files and the addresses of nearly two million possible victims were found during the raid, according to Dubai Police.

2. Obinwanne Okeke aka Ivictus was arrested in August 2019, convicted in 2021 and jailed for 10years. He should be out by 2028 but all the money and splendor are gone. Though is was tried and jailed in the USA, the Nigeria government went after the money traced to his account here in Nigeria. Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos ordered the final forfeiture of the sum of N235, 451, 969.89(Two Hundred and Thirty-five Million, Four Hundred and Fifty-one Thousand, Nine Hundred and Sixty-nine Naira, Eighty-nine Kobo)
3. Almost on weekly basis, we read how many Nigerian youths are jailed for one fraudulent offense or the other.
I agree that the government and society is hugely responsible for the new drive to engage in fraudulent activities and money rituals just to look 'made' but its still a self-disservice to throw one's life and family name away for a few years of 'pomp'.
