The biggest mistake Mr Melaye will make is to fail to lodge an objection within the 30 days required by law.

It makes over turning the assessment very difficult unless you go 'unofficial' to plead for a settlement.

If you disagree with an FIRS assessment, do not ignore it. Lodge a formal objection within 30 days
Exactly. The Assessment is not final. You can contest it but where you ignore it and allow the 30 days to pass, my guy the law doesn't protect you o.

Nigeria is a comedian. Apart from this tax summons being politically propelled and a witchunt, imagine taxing an individual almost N300m in a year. It's a ridiculous tax system. Meanwhile, lawmakers whose salaries are huge and uncoded because they don't want Nigerians to know it is fat, are walking free without IRS going to them for tax.

Paying your tax as at when due is your civic duty and failure to pay is a criminal offence. If you are not just paper tiger rich man expect FIRS or LIRS to serve a default notice if you have been evading tax, if you think they don't know, they have your bank details at their beck and call
Dino needs to respond to this letter ASAP through his consultant and settle it amicably

chisomkachy:
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has withdrawn the alleged money laundering suit it filed at the Federal High Court against Lagos Speaker Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

Naija News understands that the anti-graft did not give any particular reason for its application for withdrawal.

Following the application to withdraw, Justice Nicholas Oweibo discharged the ‘lien/Post No Debit’ placed on Obasa’s three accounts in Standard Chartered Bank.

The accounts are (US Dollars) 0001852063; (Current) 0001852056 and (Saving) 5002309624.

The judge also set aside the ex-parte orders he made on September 15, 2020, which led to the freezing of the accounts.

Recall that the court on September 15, 2020, granted an interim order freezing Obasa’s accounts following the EFCC’s application in a suit marked FHC/LCS/1064/2020.

The agency had said it was investigating the Speaker for the alleged offences of conspiracy, diversion of funds, abuse of office and money laundering.

But Justice Oweibo, on August 16, 2023, heard the application to unfreeze the accounts in his chamber.

During the hearing, the EFCC was represented by Mr. Sulaiman I. Sulaiman, while Obasa was represented by Mr. Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN).

The EFCC lawyer told the court that the application to unfreeze the accounts was pursuant to Section 44(2)(K) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Sections 26, 29 and 34 (1) of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004, and under the court’s inherent jurisdiction.

Section 44 of the Constitution concerns constitutional rights to property.

Justice Oweibo held: “It is hereby ordered that an order is hereby granted to the respondent/applicant setting aside the ex-parte orders of this court made on the 15th day of September 2020 upon the ex-parte motion of the Applicant/ Respondent in relation the funds of the Respondent/Applicant domiciled in the accounts stated in the following schedule:

“ACCOUNT NAME, FINANCIAL ACCOUNT INSTITUTIONS, TYPE OF ACCOUNT, 1. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered, (US Dollars) 0001852063 2. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered (Current) 0001852056 3. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered (Saving) 5002309624.

“Issued at Lagos, under the seal of this Honourable Court and by the hands of the Presiding Judge this 16th day of August 2023.”

Vindictiveness?
Just because he decided to join the coalition? The current trend of stifling the opposition's voice is mind boggling.
On this one I would suggest you cry to the UK and US Embassies crying victimization because the Government asked you to pay tax. Na dat time Oyinbo go craze for una because for obodo beke, when Government pay you free social security money say you no get job or say you be disabled, dem go collect tax out of the free money. Say you die Government go collect tax out of your property and cash in bank. As a dead body if you still dey make money through your company the dead body company must pay. After death the next surest thing in developed countries is taxation only if the dead is not earning oh. How many Nigerians pay income tax except those working with Government and very few organizations. Seventy percent of Nigerians haven't paid income tax in their lives. Some will tell you sebi I pay VAT. Some will say i pay local Government revenue for my shop. The subsidy Nigerians are enjoying with the relaxed income tax policy is far more than petrol subsidy. If Nigeria is to continue to pay back Oil subsidy and make sure everyone pays income tax especially those in private sector and SMEs the Government will make three times more than what they are saving from oil subsidy but the crying will be loud. I'm sure one very bold president like Tinubu will rise up one day and make income tax payment mandatory.

Is Tinubu gang paying tax at all or probably a fraction of it. Is because they are in government that is why their tax evasion is not in the public domain

PANDORA PAPERS: Inside Peter Obi’s secret businesses — and how he broke the law
Peter Obi serially violated the law by failing to declare to the Code of Conduct Bureau the companies and assets he tucked away in secrecy havens.

Peter Obi, his daughter and a secret business
Mr Obi has two children- a daughter, Gabriella Nwamaka Frances Obi, and a son, Gregory Peter Oseloka Obi. Sometime in 2010, more than four years after he became governor, the politician developed an appetite to set up his first discreet company in the British Virgin Island. He named the company Gabriella Investments Limited, after his daughter

To set up what has now become a convoluted business structure, Mr Obi first approached Acces International, a secrecy enabler in Monaco, France, to help him incorporate an offshore entity in one of the world’s most notorious tax havens noted for providing conduits for wealthy and privileged corrupt political elites to hide stolen cash to avoid the attention of tax authorities.

Tax havens are politically and economically stable offshore jurisdictions or countries with extensive laws and systems that provide little or no tax obligations, but enable high secrecy and privacy protection for foreign individuals and businesses.

Mr Obi also paid Acces International to provide nominee directors for the company. Nominee directors are residents of tax havens paid to sit on boards of companies to hide the identities of real owners of offshore firms.

So, after accepting a brief from the then governor or his representatives, Acces International officials headed to the British Virgin Island, a notorious tax haven, where it contracted a local registered agent – Aleman Cordero Galindo & Lee Trust (BVI) Limited (Alcogal) — to set up Gabriella Investments Limited for Mr Obi.
