The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has called for renewed public trust in Nigeria’s transport infrastructure following the recent derailment of the Abuja–Kaduna train.

Reacting to the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, Obi expressed concern over the safety of passengers and emphasised the need for continuous investment in critical infrastructure like rail transport.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation said the train was conveying 583 passengers and 15 NRC crew members.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau also confirmed that six people sustained injuries in the derailment, with no fatalities.

In a post on his X handle on Tuesday, Obi expressed sadness over the incident and sympathised with those affected.

The politician described rail transport as vital to development and said Nigeria must continue to invest in it.

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the Abuja–Kaduna train derailment today; my heartfelt prayers are with the injured and all affected,” the post reads.

“The rail transport system is a critical component of development, and we must continue to embrace it.

“I urge the authorities to act swiftly to provide adequate medical support to the injured, ensure accountability, and restore confidence in our transport infrastructures.

“We keep all affected in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

I can assure you that your president has not returned to the mental state where they can inform him that a train derailed inside his country grin

He is still in Brazil lying to them that corruption has ended in Nigeria.

The baron is still consulting with his fellow dealers. He would have issued statements if it happened in America

This chemical reactor always displays his ignorance and hatred for Nigeria anytime he speaks Mr. Bad News. Thank God this man was once a failed governor for 8 years. Imagine if he wasn’t an ex-governor; many would have thought he is the best for Nigeria. But someone who cannot put a small party like Labour Party in order wants to be Nigeria’s president. Anyway, he will only be voted as the president of Agulu come 2027. Mr. Bad News indeed.

Tinubu has not shown any real intent to further the railway masterplan envisioned by Buhari. He has abandoned linkage of the rail from Ibadan to Abuja and is only focused on the coastal road. Maintenance is now a hassle on virtually all the routes. His Lagos boy, Opeifa that he made head of NRC is obviously incompetent and worse than his predecessor.

God please for the sake of the downtrodden, protect and save Peter Obi. The rate at which every minute they talk about this man is becoming scary. Every blessed day, you must hear the ruling party turn opposition talking and discussing about him.

But he didn't lament the killings of those 3 youths that were not tried by a court but their life was determined by a single man who was the judge, the jury and the executioner

Peter Obi doesn't call out the evil going on in South East to attract FG attention to them. The recently released video of a criminal killing fellow criminals has not received one single condemnation from this man.
He has never called for South East security.
They say charity begins at home.
What manner of a man leaves the log in his eyes to remove that of another man?

Selective amnesia will not let him remember, even if he saw the president respond live on TV. They remember only things that make them feel good (that is, anything that portrays Nigeria and the Nigerian president in bad light).
