How Passport Fees Compare With Minimum Wage In Africa And Across The World by givedemwotowoto(op):
From Sept 1, 2025, Nigerians will pay N100,000 for a standard international passport. According to the Nigeria Immigration Service, the cost was increased in a bid to uphold the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Passport.

Obviously, the cost of getting an international passport is now higher than the national minimum wage and I was curious, so I looked up how passport fees compare with monthly minimum wage globally (including African countries) and this is what I found. The percentages show how much of the minimum wage it takes to afford a passport:

in a bid to uphold the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Passport, they jerk up the cost above minimum wage.

This is not bad. Tinubu is trying. By the time he gets second term we will see the real show.

He is doing all these because he knows INEC is there to rig him in.

What is this government really doing? Where is their economic model coming from? What are they giving Nigerians back in terms of infrastructure, security, and services that justify these hikes?

Update: Canada is $160 (5.6%) not $260. Typo.

A whopping 143% , this too much compared to our Minimum wage, for the past 2 years, almost every thing in Nigeria is on the increase, and this has totally reduced the Purchasing Power of most Nigerians.

this increment should be reduced immediately. how could immigration increase the passport registration here. This is uncalled for. The prices of the international passport must be reviewed downward. Nigeria passport shouldn't be around 25 - 30k.

It is part of the reforms, they are preaching. This government is going to suck us dry because cabinet members need to buy up all the available estates around the world.

It will favour me and my family, by the time Tinubu finished with Nigeria, poverty will be wary of the people and pity them. People can't even save, hand to mouth. How will economy grow with low purchasing index, who will buy goods produced. Even bread is cut into sizes. Yet people are supporting wickedness. Minimumwage not still being paid by many parastatas and states. grin grin grin angry

Re: How Passport Fees Compare With Minimum Wage In Africa And Across The World by jmoore(m): 4:19pm On Aug 28, 2025
A Nigerian minimum-wage earner would work about 251 hours to afford the 32-page/5-year passport and 503 hours for the 64-page/10-year passport.

A U.S. federal-minimum-wage earner would work about 23 hours for a first-time adult passport (or 18 hours for a renewal).

My thoughts exactly. For completeness they should have looked at minimum wage compared with visa fees and cost of flights also.

Haters will always hate even stating meaningless facts.
