Solababa91:Compare your productivity to those countries and you will see why you can’t afford most things in Nigeria. For example, An average South African worker has an annual output 8 times that of a Nigerian worker. Yet the Nigerian wants to be at par with him. You spend all your time in church. Night vigil etc. Nigeria is the only country I know where it takes 4/5/6 people to do the job of 1 person. Nigeria is the only country I have been to where you employ someone all day to sit down and tear receipts at supermarket exits. When 6 people are doing the work of 1 person, those six people will share the wages of 1 person. All international passports are standardized, the machines that print them are all the same from the same companies like Delarue. The cost of production is almost the same. Delarue is not going to give Nigeria a discount on its printing machines or security papers used for passports because it takes 4 Nigerian workers to do the job it takes only 1 person elsewhere. The standard of living Nigerians moan about is a reflection of the poor level of productivity of a Nigerian worker. It takes 4-6 workers to perform the task of 1 worker elsewhere. Poor education, poor skills, poor work ethic, poor culture, low productivity. If you produce a product in Nigeria using 5 workers instead of 1 elsewhere, you can’t charge 5x the price because you have 5 workers or your products won’t sell. You are competing with countries who produce the same product with 1 worker….so the 5 workers will share the salary meant for 1 person elsewhere. That is why your standard of living is low! |

This is wrong.. the minimum wage is 70k while price of the Nigerian passport is now 100k. That amount would have been justifiable had it been minimum wage was around 150k, not the current 70k they are yet to even implement. You people should fear God o.. |

Maintain integrity of the document? Weak passport yet you want to charge more for it it. It is a Japa tax; rate of japa is high so why not capitalise on it and reap more money from your failure to make your country more conducive for citizens to stay! |

WYZAD:1. Passport is not only meant for Japa 2. Minimum wage in America is over $1k and passport price is $165 but in Nigeria, passport price is over minimum wage. Minimum wage 70k ngn , passport price 100k ngn. When you people compare pls have human feelings. |

Dey are clueless to happenings in d country and beyond. |

Nigeria is now one of the very few countries if not the only country where passport price is more than the minimum wage. In essence, for a minimum wage worker to get a passport document of his country, he needs to save for over a year. Remember, passport is not meant for only japa purposes. |

Kukutente23:That's the only part you could point out. The innovations they are bringing to improve efficiency and curb corruption doesn't concern you. May be they should return to the old era where it'll take ages for people to get their passport. Sometimes, appreciate and encourage people that think outside the box to make things better, no be everything you go deh see from negative side. |

| Re: FG Defends Passport Price Hike To ₦100,000, ₦200,000 by Reference(m): 8:05am On Aug 29, 2025 |
Ofunaofu:Another proof that the government is directly fuelling inflation. Yes It costs more to produce things in Nigeria today but to put out a fire the helper needs to be different from the victims. He needs to be knowledgeable, equiped and prepared. The government has to be different from the people if it hopes to repair the economy and save the people from crushing poverty. It has to be knowledgeable and prepared. It cannot be part of the problem. It cannot be adding fuel to the fire. It should think outside the box and resource properly on how to get its products and services out to the public at the lowest possible cost. Inflation is a serious threat to the country and together with insecurity are the two horns of the dragon tormenting Nigeria today. |

The upward review of Nigerian passport fees by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), effective September 1, 2025, is deeply concerning for many citizens. Already, Nigerians face economic hardship, rising inflation, and increasing costs of living. Hiking passport fees at such a time will only add to the burden of ordinary people who need passports for education, work, business, or medical reasons abroad. While the government may justify the increment as a way to cover production costs or align with global standards, the reality is that most Nigerians earn very little compared to the new fees. Instead of raising costs, the NIS should focus on improving service delivery, eliminating corruption in passport offices, and ensuring that the process is fast, transparent, and stress free. |

Same govt will be shouting that the economy is stable and that there is no hyper inflation. This is another confirmation from govt on the hardship meted out on Nigerians. Increased by 400% to make Nigerians more comfortable I guess |

AmazingELixir:While I understand all other points as reasonable grounds for price increase , what I don’t understand is the notion that the increase is to curb corruption. This is one of the reason for the removal of subsidy. Why punish ordinary Nigerians because of the actions of the corrupt few. It is like a food vendor increasing the price of a plate because her staff ate some of the food in the pot . Government should effective fight corruption and help keep the cost down for the populace . Not punish them for the crimes of a privileged few |

SwayG:Why won't they treat Nigerians badly? Most times people complain a lot about the government, what about the citizens going outside the country to commit crime? You may not be part of them but what you experienced was a direct consequence of crimes committed by Nigerians outside the country thus creating a bad image for the country. |
| Re: FG Defends Passport Price Hike To ₦100,000, ₦200,000 by sonofthunder: 8:12am On Aug 29, 2025 |
PAWG:You are getting it wrong. A citizen should not be saving towards an international passport. You save towards, a car, land, home ownership. Things like passport and other documentation like birth certificate, your license etc should be thoughtless decisions that you don't save towards. That's just the truth. There was a thread yesterday that compared the minimum wages of different countries to their passport fee, of all the countries I went through, the percentage was less than 20% of minimum wage but Nigeria was over 140% of the the minimum wage. Anybody earning 100k or less cannot own a passport unless someone assists them or they have little to no financial obligations in terms of rent, feeding and transportation to work. |

Ofunaofu:I will never never blame this Minister and goes for all political appointees like him and even elected officers. His stand of view is this and that's the operational pattern that has been subtly playing in all the sectors gradually.... Nigerians are willling to pay above the required goverment price and much more through middle men to get their passort done within the most short time. So why don't he the minister close those middle men stages, loopholes, unnecessary delays and fiticious beaucracry and charge it lump sum on average and take it at a central collection point and a win for government. |

WYZAD:For evil supporters like you 100k is never much except when it comes to minimum wage for worker then we start hearing how broke the country is 100k is never much until a diein friend calls you for assistance Its disgusting when guys like you bring up US dollar to justify price in Nigeria .. we have a worthless currency that invalidates rational comparison. what is the propensity to earn $140 in Us and what the propensity to earn 100k in Nigeria, thats how to view it, calculate US wage per hour what is $140 to an american, even a college student will have $140 But in Nig there are working class that have not seen #100k fully since jan till now You speak good english, a sign you pass through school but by submission school no pass through you |
