Okay from the comments it seems only Western schools used this cos nothing of this sort ever occurred in the South South. We had real books not hymnals. The latter are meant for churches

I used the blue sop aka songs of praise. Every Friday we learn new hymn and we sing one hymn every Mondays to Fridays. My favourite hymns are.

2. When I survey thy wondrous cross.
3. Oh for a thousand tongues to sing.
4. Praise my soul the king of heaven.
5. Nearer my God to thee.

My worst songs are:
1. Rock of ages cleft for me.
2. Jerusalem on high.
3. In the bleak mid winter! ( maybe that's y i hate the winter,lol)

Really? I know those orthodox and catholic churches could be very traditional and but pentecostal churches too? They are very mega now with projector everywhere. Some don't bother with hymns again. It's been over 10years I set my eyes on this book in my church so I want to believe the churches you're referring to are those fairly big churches.

My parents church is a Pentecostal one and hymn books are still very much in force there. Even Celestial churches still use them as well.
So yes, the fairly big ones.

Hmm... I never experienced hymnals in school. My first secondary was a missionary school and we had none of that and in my senior years I switched to private and still none of it. It's strange to me

Queen Premier
Aesop's fables
Macmillan (them Ali and Simbi, Edet etc)
All other subjects textbook I can't recall
