Good day everyone,

Well done to all contributing to the forum.
I am currently completing my UK visa application and would appreciate some clarification on the following points:

For the question “Where do you plan to stay in the UK”, am I required to provide hotel booking details and enter the hotel information in that section?

In the section on previous visa refusals outside the UK, if I cannot recall the exact reasons given, can I simply provide the date of the refusal along with the type of visa I applied for?

Regarding previous employment history: as an employee of a government parastatal, should I select the option shown in the image below?
I think that box you highlighted for employment status is appropriate.

As for previous visa refusals....don't know how to advise there. Sorry

If the file is PDF, convert it to jpg and upload.

You may consider using the VSF Global paid document service. That's what I used. But make sure you have all the documents you want to upload in A4 paper format

Thank you for your input.

I do not have a host and intend to stay in a hotel. My question is whether it is mandatory to make a hotel reservation and provide the details before submitting the application, or if I can simply indicate that I will be lodging in a hotel without including specific details since I have not yet made a booking.

I think u shd just mention..as part of your itinerary...the places you will be staying. Okay to list like three different hotels.

I dont think you have to pay for hotel ahead...afterall what happens.s if they dont approve you.

Yes, you will enter the details of the hotel in that section.

Providing hotel reservation/booking isn't required. On the guide for supporting documents as stated on the official website, it is actually amongst the list of documents you should not use as evidence. However, if you feel that it has the potential to strengthen your application based on your circumstance then you should. What you can do in this instance is to either make a booking that doesnt require immediate payment, or make a refundable booking which allows you cancel the reservation with full refund. You can make such on sites like booking.com, trip.com etc.

I have had successes applying for a UK visa, stating the hotel information without confirmed hotel booking, and I have had successes making actual reservations that are fully refundable. Your circumstance will determine the option to take

Depending on your location, it's usually within 7 working days.

Self employment does not mean she is earning hugely.
In the UK we have self employed individuals earning lower than 1k pounds annually. They do not have to pay tax etc.. they can continue as a one man business etc.
So what exactly is the issue with the self employed part?
She can also be self employed, earning little and therefore not have a business account.
She can be a farmer, a fisherwoman, a petty trader.
Everything is about presenting your circumstances in a way the visa officer understands.
As long as she is elderly and has a sponsor, her profile is 50% good to go, the rest is for you to handle the filling of form and compilation of an adequate profile showing her home ties to complete the other 50%.
Thank you 😊
But she’s actually stopped the business now. She used to run it on a part time basis but not stopped due to personal circumstance including physical health.
How do I present this in my next application? What’s your honest suggestion?
My plan is to make a clean statement for 6 months for mum and myself making sure no other credit enters her account asides from upkeep remittance from me then she spends a stipulated amount monthly. This is a very trying time for me and my mum…I really hope we are able to testify here.
Thank you in anticipation 😊
May God bless you

Hi , I am no expert at all and might be wrong but reading through some instances here , I think you should have been the only sponsor of the trip. Also you’ve not shown enough ties to home country in form of dependents, marriage , landed properties , proof of occupancy, community involvements and the likes.

Hello everyone I need your honest response and review on the explanation of my financial situation. First time applicant.

I wrote that I earn 500,000 monthly after tax as asked on the application portal. And this is also reflected on my payslip from my regular 9-5.

But I also have additional sources of income from my registered Make-up and wig selling beauty parlour, Rent payment from my tenants, and an investment with an investment company and the income surpasses my salary.

Now, after ticking additional sources of Income to be Investment and another Income on the portal,

I was asked how much is my total regular additional income Annually. I indicated 13million.

To the part of my monthly expenses, I spend around 600k a month as reflected on my bank statement....this actually outweighs my regular salary of 500k and that is because I have other sources of income that come in monthly. and I have seen here that monthly expense is a crucial factor for approval or denial. My current closing balance as reflected on my 4 month Bank statement is 14milllion. and opening balance of 10m.

My question is, is it okay to put a figure that is more than my regular salary as monthly expenses? Especially because I earn more than the 500k salary monthly. And add proofs

Or do I add my additional income with the normal salary and put in that box for monthly income after tax.?

Thank you , as I await your response.

I think what is needed here is just you being honest to yourself because you ought to know to know your circumstances better than anyone else. I believe you know what income means, and salary in this context can be referred to as one source of your income. And expenses, on the other hand, denotes monies spent presumably from your income. You may be required to provide proof of other sources of your income aside your monthly salary as you claim to have had other sources. With this, I see nothing wrong if you spend more than your monthly salary. But where I feel you would need some further clarifications is in a situation whereby you spend more than your income. This is just a common sense reasoning from me, I am not an expert though

Greetings Experts!!

I would appreciate your honest advice on the next steps to take after receiving my third UK refusal.

I have attached the reasons of my refusal this time around.

I would like to know if I can reapply immediately and explain the reason for the low opening balance which was due to the fact I just paid my rent and child's school fees? and also now submit my recent 6 months statement with a higher opening balance of N5M and closing balance of N13M in my salary account.

I do have a well established business and pay myself regularly every month.

I was rejected in 2019, 2022 and just recently. This will be my 4th UK visit application and I would like to make it perfect this time to address their concerns with my account statement.

Thanks for your time!

Pls I kinda need help.
I tried making a payment for visa appointment and the transaction wasn't executed. I tried executing the same transaction but on the page is the message "payment declined ".

There was an option to reschedule and on clicking on that, it brought me to the appointment date selection page but it still wouldnt bring out any dates to select from.

To make the matter worse, it's asking me to go back to the dashboard to pay this fee and yet I couldn't access or know where or what to do next.

Sorry about this.

With three previous refusals,I stronly suggest you leave the UK for now and try other Countries. You can try Schengen visa.

If you try again, you might get another refusal.

I got a Schengen visa through France and I have been to Qatar, Singapore, and Dubai.

With a profile like yours, a refusal can be annoying. It's a constant reminder that visa approvals are totally at the discretion of the embassy. You can do everything right and still be refused a visa for the most flimsy excuse, it comes down to the consular officer treating your application.

If you are not pressed for time, I would recommend seeking redress by way of filing a complaint or Pre-Action Protocol. However, a faster option would be to put in another applciation and taking time to address the concerns raised in the refusal letter. Since the money went into paying rent and school fees you can show proof of the expenditure. Those expenditures allude to strong ties.

Your refusal is quite annoying to say the least. It's not enough to show bank statements, one now has to explain the circumstances of the statement. This is the reality of a visa applicant in Nigeria

All the best in whatever route you choose to explore.

But even a rookie UK ECO will not grant a visa in your circumstances.
Take your time to digest your refusal letter.
You want to go for a vacation? You don’t have funds, you depleted your account so what kind of vacation will that be? The trip is not compulsory.
If you paid school fees and all your expenses that means you had nothing to fall back on few months ago and next moment you decided to go on a trip which will not add any value to you just for the sake of… they can not issue such a visa.
You could have at least submitted the statement of account after you had funds not from when your opening bal was 209k for a CEO earning millions as you wrote since 2016. It does not just add up and this is the issue I have on this thread with people just expecting stories to be picked up and accepted by the ECO hook, line and sinker because we said it. No proof, no clear reasons, no clear evidence.
You can come in, seek asylum and start benefiting from tax payer funded benefits as clearly the business that dropped to 200k can not be a home tie.
Also if truly you have been earning these millions since 2016 as you stated, how come
1. Your travel history is non existent- again Dubai and Qatar do not count to the US or UK visa officer in 2025.
2. The France visa was when?
3. Someone earning these millions in the last 9 years surely would have had multiple trips to one of the first world nations.
4. Worst thing working against you was already you had 2 to 3 prior refusals… they reduce chances especially if you are not an elderly applicant or a financially/economically secure applicant eg been in a salaried role.
5. Your circumstances are wishy washy and neither here or there and very risky for any visa officer to say on a balance of probabilities you would come back.
This is why you were denied.
Do not reapply.
If you want to go back, put in an official complaint and use that one maybe your goal can enter because you might be lucky but not to reapply. You will be denied again.
