ZombieDredd:Those who have the balls to do that, no be mock you dey mock them in Nigeria as mumu? Even their own children would resent them for not prioritizing the family needs. How are you treating your brave ones like Sowore, you destroy them and their decades of efforts in the name of politics. |

Do the maths. It's not about just resigning. Would him resigning bring the good things we want, no. |

BafanaBafana:Buhari? How it is that Nigerians are so gullible is one thing I can never understand. Do you think Buhari cared about anything or even Nigeria for that matter. Do you think Buhari was ready to move for anything other than the Fula agenda? Kai....Nigeria sha. If Fela was still alive, I wonder what he would be doing now. |

poiZon:In this life one must always pray to be blessed with intelligence. Otherwise you end up arguing against yourself without even realizing it. It’s a big crime to come into this world without it. You have just given an example of why he would never succeed. Nobody has said technocrats don’t have good ideas or don’t know what to do or don’t have the willpower to execute. The problem is because they lack political power they will come up against resistance from entrenched interests and these people usually have political power. 10 out of 10 times the man with political power will win against the technocrat without. NOI had 2 terms in office. One with OBJ and one with GEJ. Because OBJ had political power and gave her cover, she was very successful in her 1st term. In her second term, GEJ only occupied office and he wasn’t in charge of his government so he couldn’t give her the political cover to enact her reforms. She kept shouting and warning….nobody listened to her. All the governors came and dwindled the ECA from $15B to about $2b. We started borrowing to pay salaries under her second term as minister, she tried to remove subsidy because she knew it was the right thing to do but nobody listened to her….because she had no political power and her boss didn’t have either. A woman of her pedigree, the reality is her. Seconds term under Jonathan was an unmitigated disaster. But it wasn’t her fault, she knew what to do and was willing to but she and her boss lacked the political power to bulldoze her plans through the entrenched interests with political power. There is a difference between occupying office and having power. Same thing happened to Ambode, his waste removal reforms was in the right direction but he didn’t have the political power because he is a technocrat not a politician. The real politicians ( the grassroots politicians and mobilizers) resisted because PSP contracts is where they get paid. Because he isn’t a politician he didn’t handle it well thinking as technocrats do that this is progress so the grassroots politicians gave Tinubu an ultimatum ….Ambode must go…..and he fell! Such is their political power and anger that even Tinubu could not save him, realsing a leader without followers is not a leader. He sanctioned his exit. If you don’t have political power, you can’t implement any reforms in Nigeria and survive. Osinbajo is not a politician, he lost his ward in 2015, he ran to Ikene to contest under the safety of a safe APC zone, he was humiliated as a sitting Vice President in the primaries, he lost his polling unit and ward in the governorship elections of 2019. He has no political power and that’s why he became a lapdog after that incident you mentioned. Those with power fought back and rendered him impotent from that day forward in the administration to the point of even withdrawing his staff. Examples abound. Running a country is not about having brilliant ideas, brilliant ideas are 2 a penny in Nigeria. it’s about the ability to navigate and triumph over the establishment and entrenched interests even in your own government. For that you need political power not just occupying the office. That is why people like osinbajo, Adeshina, NOI will fail as presidents of Nigeria. Running Nigeria is not about IQ or speaking English. Very few Nigerians have been able to successfully transition from technocrat to politician and succeed because it requires a shift in mindset that is alien to the Pysche of a technocrat. The few who have succeeded include Umahi, FAshola and Soludo. But they succeeds because they suppresed their natural instinct to think and act like a technocrat or at least are able to understand that 1+1 can be anything depending on who or the circumstance. To a technocrat 1+1 is always 2…that’s why they fail in politics without political cover. A politician knows which battles to fight and Perhaps if Osinbajo had not sacked the DSS DG, who knows he may have stood a better chance of becoming president but the action you praise him for is exactly what killed his chances before it even started. See how Tinubu removed subsidy, see how he stopped forex roundtripping. Only a politician could do that. It is precisely because he is a politician and knows the ways of politician that he didn’t consult anyone. See the tax bill, remember the resistance? A technocrat would have withdrawn the bill for consultation as requested by the senate only for the consultations to be endless and the bill would never see the light of day. . Only a politician would say no you make your adjustments and come back to me. |

casualobserver:Dear writer, you said he would have been sabotaged. You don't know what absolute power means. You are in charge! You sneeze and everyone catches cold. We missed a great opportunity in Osinbajo to have a president who combines integrity with capacity. They ruiners didn't want him there because they knew their game would be up with PYO in the saddle. |

okito:Occupying office is not power. Ask GEJ, ask Ambode, ask Fubara! A technocrat who occupies high office only to the extent that he doesn’t upset the apple cart only has the illusions of power. He serves at the pleasure of those with power. Reforms require true power. It’s amazing how you people say he would be a good president but then in the same post will talk about how he was sabotaged and nullified as VP. Somehow your medula did not connect that you are providing the ammunition for the execution of your position. Like the poster I replied to above, you just provided with your own hands why he would never have been a successful president. The position you hold does not always equate to power. For example, Umaru Dikko was more powerful than Shagari himself. Abba Kyari despite holding no official post ran Buhari’s govt. I know a commissioner who is more powerful than his governor. SAs who are more powerful than their ministers etc. Don’t get carried away with the title of the office. It is the political power that got you there that holds the power of the office. If it your political power then you can do as you like otherwise you will eventually bow to the political power that put you there or be prepared for a fight or gridlock. |

SmartPolician:You guys level of thinking should change and stop being a laughing stock in the international. In your mind, British Army, Indian Armed Forces and other nations would allow Buhari as a then young brilliant military officer to come for a course in the Royal School in British? So na primary school him carry comot from NDA? Don't let news, people or ignorant do the thinking for you guys, at least, you can try yourselves once in a while if not in full month. This is part of the problem in Nigeria, mentality and unrational thinking everywhere yet we keep insulting the leadership of senates, representatives and chairmen. What's now the difference? |
