Power-Hungry Politicians Seeking To Remove Tinubu — Bayo Onanuga by ogododo(op): 6:27am On Sep 02, 2025
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has described those calling for the removal of President Bola Tinubu from office as “power-hungry politicians” who feel politically displaced.

He spoke against the backdrop of comments of former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-ERufai, that the President would not be re-elected in 2027.

The former Kaduna governor had, in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics programme on Sunday night, said: “I was governor of Kaduna State; I was one of Bola Tinubu’s biggest campaigners, but I couldn’t deliver the state to him. Bola Tinubu himself couldn’t win his state with his own governor in place. So, these things are not as theoretical as people want them to be.

“If you want to engage in self-delusion, you are free to do so. I will not tell you how we are going to win, but I tell you very clearly, the worst-case scenario in the 2027 elections is that no winner will emerge in the first round.

“We may have to go for a runoff, and Bola Tinubu will not be on the ballot for the runoff because he will, at best, be third in the election. He has no pathway to win. I have done the maths, I have done the analysis; he cannot, he will, at best, be third.

“But he can deceive himself; he may think, oh, you know, I have money, because they have taken all the money in the country, I have INEC, I have the police, I have the army. You know what, President Tinubu, invite ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for a chat, and ask him if he didn’t have all these in 2015, and we got him out. Is the case still the same? Similar to 2015? It’s worse.

“It’s like those who say Tinubu has never lost an election. That can be contested, but it’s okay, he’s a political strategist, he’s this, he’s that. Wait.

“I naturally have said, if you want to learn some lessons, invite ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for a chat over coffee, and ask him what happened in 2015. That’s all.’’

But reacting yesterday, Onanuga, in a statement via his X handle, accused el-Rufai of being at the forefront of the campaign of removing the President, despite admitting in the past that four years was not enough for any leader to deliver “meaningful changes.”

He said: “Nasir El-Rufai confesses here that four years is not enough for a political office holder to make ‘meaningful changes’. Yet he is at the forefront of the gang of political desperados plotting President Tinubu’s ouster, just two years into his tenure. What a contradiction!

“In contrast to the political laggards and underachievers who were once governors in Anambra, Rivers and Kaduna states, President Tinubu and his team have implemented meaningful changes in our country over the past two years, positioning us on the path of prosperity.’’

He argued that Tinubu’s administration had achieved significant progress within two years, citing increased foreign reserves, growth in the stock market, harmonisation of the exchange rate, and four consecutive months of inflation decline.

“Phenomenal wealth creation in the stock market has seen ASI skyrocket from 53,000 points to over 140,000 points. Over N26 trillion in additional wealth has been created in the market under Tinubu’s watch,” he said.

Onanuga also pointed to reforms in education and social welfare, including student loans through NELFUND and cash transfers to vulnerable households.

He added that states and local governments were receiving more funds from the centre, enabling them to embark on capital projects and create jobs.

“The governors said they have never had it so good,” he noted, insisting that those behind the alleged plot were acting out of desperation.

He wrote further: “Yet, these power-hungry politicians want the President, who has achieved so much, to be removed, all because they have become politically displaced and irrelevant. May they never succeed in their plot against our nation and people.’’

The presidential spokesman said El-Rufai’s past comments would be used against him during political campaigns.

“Please save the video. We shall confront Nasir with it when electioneering starts,” Onanuga noted..

According to the Agbado logic, only Tinubu is permitted to be power-hungry, Emi lokan. For someone who claimed to have prepared for 20 years, Tinubu has failed woefully. He is unapologetic about running a government solely for the benefit of himself and cronies while paying no mind to the plight of ordinary Nigerians and killing them with new taxes everyday all in the name of "revenue". Even our embassies are unfunded and capital projects are suffering pausity of funds. At this point, anyone will do better than Tinubu. He's grossly overrated.

You guys are all emotional people who never speak in respect of fact. Tinubu is an example of an excellent strategist who waited patiently, planned meticulously, invested in other and sacrificed appropriately, since 2007 when he finished al Governor of Lagos, in his quest to be President.

Between 2007 and 2023 he was patiently and sacrificially putting people and structures in place to ensure he succeeded.

Datti Baba Ahmed even praised him for this citing Tinubu as a loyal and patient politician who bided his time and exemplarily helped other in contrast to ADC stalwarts like Atiku etal who he hinted would lead their Party to fail if they could not sacrifice personal ambition for the greater good as Tinubu has done again and again.

If Tinubu is the "desperado" and not Atiku, Obi etal then you are only confirming how people from your side think and talk, without cognisance of facts or reality, once they hate something or someone.

Datti Baba-Ahmed: opposition must ‘do the unthinkable’ to beat Tinubu
Oluwatosin Ogunjuyigbe

July 4, 2025

Speaking in an interview with Trust TV, Baba-Ahmed described Tinubu as a political mastermind who spent 16 years methodically working towards the presidency.

However, he expressed doubts about whether the coalition members are truly willing to put Nigeria’s interests above their own political ambitions.

“I don’t yet see anyone in this coalition who can scheme and plan over 16 years. With all due respect to Atiku, he has contested consistently—this will be the seventh time,” Baba-Ahmed said.

“But tell me: is there anyone else in the coalition who will say, ‘Let it be the other person, and I will support them’? I’m yet to see that. Everyone seems only interested in their candidacy.”

Baba-Ahmed highlighted Tinubu’s patient approach to power, noting how the current president strategically supported others before claiming the presidency for himself.

“He stayed committed for 16 years and took it in 2023,” he said.

Lol. More "grossly overratated" than the most desperate politician ever in Nigeria's history since 1999?

I.e your hero the 'Dubai dweller' Atiku who spends his time outside Nigeria, disinterested in our problems, to then show up election year demanding the Presidency?

You are driven by nothing other than personalised bigotry and prejudice, perhaps also poor education, hence your inability to understand the reforms of Tinubu now definitely bearing fruits and getting critical acclaim from many global economic expert to include even our own NOI.

Tragic El Rufai is too arrogant to understand the 'optics' of his antics. Even a kid can tell it is personal with this man and that he is behaving like a toddler who has had his toy taken away because Tinubu, correctly as we can all see today , snubbed him.

He has gone on to unravel as a hardcore extremist whose capacity for 'acting out' unacceptably cannot be predicted by anyone. "Totally unhinged" comes to mind.

Many Southern leaders, to include those not fans of Tinubu, are silently fuming at El Rufai's conduct/talk and unrestrained arrogance laced with veiled and ungracious threats against a Southern President with even his son joining in the show of shame.

Whereas nothing of the sort was done to Buhari by Tinubu or any other Southern leaders who largely remained decorous in the face of the then PMB's gross misrule.

No Southern leader threatened Buhari uncouthly, as virtually all born-to-rule Northerners, are doing openly today. Yet they don't appreciate they are creating a real and toxic divide between South and North.

Southern leaders won't talk loquaciously as El Rufai and his fellow Northern supremacists are doing. They will simply resolve to do what must be done to assist Tinubu win and foil Fulani imperialism, hegemonistic arrogance and open disdain for Southerners.

I don't know if it's only me that notice that this Bayo of a guy don't really know his work Sha

You're a president spokesman, you're only his mouthpiece

Is he saying this message emanates from the heart of the president?

That's a disservice to both the president and Nigeria

Imagine openly admitting that the president don't want any opposition to his seat

Make he sit tight and face his main work and leave this tantrums to the party spokesperson

Ugly Onanuga is speaking for a man who has kept Lagos perpetually in his stranglehold since 1999.

His love and greed for power and control made him a life Lagos Godfather.

Yet he calls other people hungry for power!

The Former President Mohammed Buhari said emphatically that if he mentioned his choice for Presidency in 2023, the person would be eliminated.

Later we heard a Nigerian Politician say in public in the glare of over 200m people that "Emilokan". In Yourba meaning my turn.

Not even "our turn", but " my turn".

What statement could be far-off from a desperate politician please.

You see this thing called power albeit intoxicating can be also transient.

Onanuga has the effrontery, temerity and audacity to call a politician desperate.

God is patient and soveriegn.
