We have 70% Northern workers and 30% Southerners.

The South boys usually prefer to leave the company and go to a restaurant far in the village just to eat lunch everyday. I have never seen them eat our food.

The company had to bring in a Calabar woman to cook for them after much protest. This woman’s food is more expensive but they don’t complain.

I didn't know this. When I was working at Apapa, there was this Hausa woman selling food. I used to stop there some mornings to eat. I liked her food. But I only ate rice served with some kind of flavourful vegetable.

Hausa get restaurant?

I never see one though especially in this Lagos,at least around Agege where dem plenty,apart from selling their local rice ,mosa and the rest I never see Hausa person open restaurant like others.

Not exactly I would say. Though some will argue factors like hygiene, less attention to details etc maybe responsible. I am more familiar with southern dishes and sincerely no disappointments. But I believe the north also has great dishes.

But beyond main food, when it comes to snacks and beverages just give it up to Dem.

From Suya, to yoghurt, fresh milk, kaza, awara, dankuya or dankua, paran (dried or fried locust), masa, burassa, fried or smoked kirifi, cow innards and tripe that they fry and simmer in the cow fat, fura da nunu and burukutu which I hope to try someday soon.

They're good in those ones, but not main food.

Poor hygiene

Hausa food is highly medicinal. We do not pack meat or fish to enjoy our soup.

The highest you can add is dried fish and that is optional.

We prefer to eat meat separately eg Suya, kilishi , Dambu Nama etc

The way some Hausas cook their food, for me I don't understand. How can you serve me boiled spaghetti with powder pepper and some touches of groundnut oil on top. Who does that?
I have lived close to many Hausa neighbours here in the south, to be honest, I can't eat their food, I'm sorry.

Hasua foods are majorly Medicinal while the Southern Part food often blend the Medicinal aspect with Taste.

They have some very tasty meals but they also have some very weird looking food like Dan wake. I have been curious to taste this but never gotten the chance.

They have some food they cook then cut lots of vegetables and put one Maggi cube with it. Then they have the one they use bottom pot of rice to do then kwado

L and N restaurant in Abuja is a good place to go to try out their food.

Hausa Food is Medicinal. I have a Moringa Tree in my Compound and I barely look at it for the leaves but prefer the Seeds. I love the bitter sweet after taste it leaves in the mouth.

Come and see my Hausa neighbours falling over themselves just to pluck and make a soup from the Moringa leaves.

I noticed that to eat southern Food you need to add a lot of Protein like Meat fish or Chicken to enjoy it but it is not the same in the North

You are very right, they add a lot of protein in their food. That is one of the many things the Northern food lacks.

I lived and worked in the far North for some years. During my stay I had a Fulani girlfriend....very nice people, from a wealthy home. Her mother became sick, later died though. I always visited her in the hospital then. She complained bitterly of the many presence of Northerners in the hospital, yet can't find a single Southerner, so she decided to ask one of the Doctors in one of my numerous visits why no Southerner is found here.
The Doctor explained that the Southerners eat good foods that helps fight diseases and infections, so they hardly fall sick to the numerous diseases affecting the Northern people.

It's simple. Good food is medicine on it's own. This is what majority of the Northerners don't know.

I understand you perfectly. I am only buttresing your position. Since "Medicine" is usually bitter, most people will naturally avoid it.

And to counter that, the Hausa consumes sugar like it is going out of fashion.

They usually cook their food in a kinda local way, so that it would be affordable for their customers in the north.

At itedo where those hausas gather, I saw some Hausa people eating boiled rice with dried peppers on top, the girl will now add either palm oil or vegetable oil with a pinch of salt and she'll open maggi on top.

The reason why I manage to eat suya is because it has gone through the heat of fire. I hardly eat outside, even if I wanna do it I won't eat the food prepared by a northerner. I hate the smell of flagyl.

Most of the comments here are stereotypical. 'Too much seasoning' 'No meat' 'little oil' bla bla. Who set the standard for amount of seasoning, meat and oil?

You have your food which you enjoy, that's good. But don't disparage that of others.

There are a lot of foreign cuisines which people consider exotic but I don't savor them. That doesn't mean they aren't good

No evidence to suggest Yoruba food has more demand than Hausa food. Stop begging the question.

And they are always friendly. Almost can make you start feeling guilty for not patronizing them. It all boils down to the look of their food as well as their level of hygiene.

One year I spent in Yola was hell. I only had access to one Yoruba restaurant and her food was not impressive at all.

. Maybe any day that Yoruba restaurant, even with you managing it, isn't open, you go just dey swear for am. E no easy
