Chelle would have started Tolu .... the SA played a very physical game .. maybe Tolu would have given us a penalty or something close in the first half ... so far it was a good game . SE played their best .unfortunately it was't enough today . |

lbrichman2:In Africa you must win your home games especially as a big soccer nation. If we can’t win at home then some players should make their way out of the team. We need standards to be set for players in the GWG. Enough of tolerating mediocrity. If you draw against the big teams yes we can forgive you but against teams down the fifa rankings haba! All these one of this player try when we draw at home is pure rubbish. Nigerian soil is always a slaughter slab for teams in Africa and we must ensure that. It’s difficult to win away in Africa with off the match antics from smaller African nations so why joke with your home games. |

Kog45:spot on boss, this is the right time to that injecting new and younger faces to the team. Chelle isn’t perfect but miles better than all the coaches the team have had in last 2 years. He should continue tinkering the team and I believe they will have a good outting at the next afcon Like I said I predicted that super eagles will win the next afcon and I still maintain that |

lbrichman2:There is no need inviting Ekong again except we want to go the way of Keshi,Yobo,Kanu,Mikel and Ahmed Musa...time to integrate Ogbu, Frederick,Bassey as nucleus of our defense, good that we have young Bruno and Agu,also reliable Aina and Osayi. |

It's Eric Chelle realizing his mistake for starting Ekong and carelessly removing him for me. For the record, allowing Eric Chelle to continue means you might not see some old players again. Bold coach.D |

MKPUOGALIGA:because you don't understand the rudiments of the game doesn't mean others don't. Some of us are trained in this thing and can see the mistakes a mile away. So it's only normal for us to point it out. Even if we start preparing today for 2030 and the coach keeps making this rookie mistakes,we will be back at this same stage in 5 years only. Magic don't happen in football, the quality of your decisions determine your outcome. |

mank1234:Who started Ekong? Was it not Chelle? I'm even a bigger advocate for Chelle than you, but I will call out dodgy decision making when I see it. Ekong had no business being in today's starting lineup. Like someone here rightly noted, he lacks the pace or reaction time to keep up with Bafana's attack and that's why he made that blunder. They caught him lacking and he couldn't restrain himself. That doesn't mean I'm blaming Chelle for our qualification woes. The rightful blame for that goes to NFF, if we want to dive down to the root cause for the confusion and cluelessness surrounding our qualifiers campaign. But today's game, his decisions we're poor. Kudos to him for making the right corrections, but by then the game was lost. South Africa were full of nerves in the first half. It was Ekong's blunder that gave them the needed confidence and once they got their foots on the gas, they didn't let up for one second. In the second half, their defense suddenly turned into prime Madrid. The same defense we were jesting that we would run circles around. Baba rest. Ekong cost us the game obviously, but if he had stayed on the bench like he did on Saturday, we for no dey here dey yarn all this pathetic yarns. Like I said, Chelle stays. We move on to the AFCON. |

Kog45:for him to start benching ekong after the ZIM match was obvious that he doesn’t rate him. Maybe he had a change of heart to field the skipper due to the formation he started the game with |

The guys tried let’s not lie, the problem was the those 4 matches we played first. They lost osimhen lost aina, this losses are enough deal a mental blow for a fighting team. Now there is still l a slim chance of finishing first and a more bigger chance of Nigeria finishing in the playoffs still hope we know. Even if we don’t qualify it’s still just a game of football, many more to come by God’s grace. |

Ragingthunder:Not really. We can win our next two games and hope either of the 4 teams on that log drop points. We can also hope for point deduction after removal of Eritrea. The guys should win the rest of their matches but it's out of our hands now. |

Odunayaw:so you can't figure out that putting a right footed slow Cb on the left side of the defence carries the risk that he can do an own goal when dealing with low crosses coming in from the left?. It's basic principle. If bassey was in Ekong position,he would have cleared it with his left leg rather than Ekong having to awkwardly position his body to clear with his right leg leading to the own goal |

And if South Africans like let them relax, they will just find themselves loosing to Rwanda and having 3 point chunked out, then they find themselves on 17 points like play. Let them be doing like they win World Cup drawing Nigerian |

charlesemeka85:I think because of how crucial the game was he felt Ekong experience could help. It’s what any coach will do cos if things turn south too we for blame am say e no start Ekong. You can see he brought Ekong in the previous game to finish off things. It was just bad day in the office for the captain. |
| Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by lbrichman2: 7:40pm On Sep 09, 2025 |
Kog45:We still need Ekong's leadership for now He should still be on the bench and can come in against the weaker teams But this should be his last year with the super eagles |

I under rated Tolu. |

lbrichman2:On Ndidi, I disagree. He needs to also be phased out for a singular reason that he has not tried to even develop his game. Ndidi should be like our own Yaya toure but he cannot make an accurate shot. All he does is mostly sideways pass which doesn't help the attack. When Ndiddidoes get to shooting positions it is always skew. Not even on target. If we want experience, then he may still be a go to guy but we need to have options. Our starting 11 needs to stop being so predictable cos it gives away our game plan almost as soon as it is being released |
