In Africa, it's only naija no dey employ wuru wuru for football. And it's ironic because we are an unbelievably corrupt nation yet whenever we play football we win or lose neat neat.

Naija would not have ever taken South Africa to play on that kind of pitch if we were in their position.

Anyone can do an own goal and there are various reasons why it happens ranging from just being unfortunate to outright stupidity. Today's own goal was because the coach put him in a difficult position. Remember he's very slow and primarily right footed and not bipedal like thiago silva or Ramos.

I have to say I agree. I was skeptical when I saw the starting line-up too and my intuition wasn't wrong.

That being said, Chelle stays. He has the right ideas. His problem so far is timing, but with enough time and familiarity, I'm confident he'll get things right.
I even said it before the game started immediately the line up was posted. Kudos to him for correcting his errors with the substitutions but he's being paid to make the right ones from beginning primarily.

To summarize: Our guys may still move on to the next round provided that some of those 4 best 2nd place teams drop points and we win all of our next games.

We are no longer in the driver's seat.

It makes me sad when bad coaching heaps losses on us and players get the blame.
These players sacrifice their club careers just to make their nation proud, and all you have to call them is overhyped.

These players get career threatening injuries putting their bodies in line.
That football pitch is another issue.
Has anyone of them ever played for free? Owe them one match bonus and watch them run to the social media to berate the NFF. Since they have never played for free, it's not sacrifice to the Nation, rather it's the country that gave them the opportunity that should be praised. Just one match bonus can pay 10 doctors for 10 months.

I don't blame him for trusting Ekong
Unfortunately Ekong failed him
And he acted swiftly and ruthlessly

Me I like that kind of coach for the SE
Same way he subbed Dessers in the first half against Rwanda and still subbed him out when he wasn't performing..

This coach is clearly taking the team forward..

I feel kinda sad because this group of players should be at the world Cup competing against the best of the best..

But I know even Chelle himself understands we need better players
Some of these players need to go

If benjamin Francis can play like this he just newly started playing in Belgium, he has been in Brentford b team.
So there's a possibility thier are some Nigeria players in Team B in different clubs around, that can even do well when give the opportunity to play for the National team.
Francis is not a big defender I was afraid the South Africans will bullied him in today's game.
Football is not how big or strong you are , is just a gift.
Frederick always a calm defender and read the game very well,he is another version of young Keshi of 1981 to 1992.....I remember Emma Olisadebe telling me then in university campus "that make I forget it o that as a university he will break into eagles if given the chance, three years later the same Emma singlehandedly took Poland to World Cup....also a friend Sunday Johnson said 'o boy Finidi and Tijani are not better only that he would be on the bench for them cuz they have been there before him.Sunday Johnson later made Sydney 2000 as only outfield player, injury ruined him......As you said time to integrate young ones like Ogbu, Frederick, Eletu, Akinsanmiro...eagles need ball carrier players....just see what Bassey did today.

Not really. We can win our next two games and hope either of the 4 teams on that log drop points. We can also hope for point deduction after removal of Eritrea. The guys should win the rest of their matches but it's out of our hands now.
Not just win the next two matches but win handsomely. The other 2nd placed teams ahead of us have pretty huge goal differences

But what if we just somehow qualify??
We won't give up as long as there's a glimmer of hope
At this point, even if we qualify, what are we going to do there? Our team is clearly not prepared. That's if we even have a "team". We just have a squad of very talented players who don't have enough chemistry, and coached by someone who's still figuring his way round the players. Our attack is not well polished. If we somehow get to the mundial, our best chances of progressing will probably be to revert to Peseiro tactics and lock shop at our defense, then try to scrape points through penalties and inshallah.

South Africa players may not have the overall pedigree of the Super Eagles, but what we can learn from our last couple of meetings with them is that together, they are a well oiled machine. Hugo Broos has spent at least 4 years with them and together they've developed a playing style that churns out results. They move with urgency, and play as if they can predict what their teammates will do and where they will move. That's the kind of chemistry we need in the SE. The last time I saw that kind of chemistry in the SE was during the days of Oliseh, Babayaro dem.

At this point, I've made my peace with us possibly not qualifying. In fact I'm not even sure I want us to qualify. The highest we can achieve with this current squad at the level of football we are in now will be Round of 16, and that is if we play haram football. Imagine this squad playing Spain or Portugal. Even Ecuador sef. The only thing we'll benefit from the mundial is that all of us will go to America for vacation and sight-seeing.

That's why Chelle needs to stay. He has the potential. He has the right ideas. What he needs is the liberty to make his own choices + more time with the players to learn and study them well enough to understand their strengths, weaknesses, psychology and tendencies. Then he can use it to his advantage and build the perfect squad. If we're well co-ordinated, with the crop of players we have now, we're at least supposed to be rubbing shoulders with Uruguay, Croatia, England and the likes.

Ekong likes own goal.

I think he scored for South Africa sometimes back as well maybe in AFCON or so, but he redeemed himself by scoring the penalty awarded to us.

I think SA too just Dey learn these things 😂 see as they waste time today Dey roll for ground. It’s time to develop our own antics too na only Nwabali get format for our team the rest of our players too clean 😂

We have lost Afcon finals cos we no sabi format. The first thing we need to do is to sort out our home venue. Uyo does not look like a slaughter slab for African teams. We need to either get back to Lagos or make Abuja a dreaded den. That uyo too clean for my liking e no Dey frighten our opponents at all!

I'm talking of today's own goal. Today's own could have been prevented by putting him on the right side of defense. Yes he made a mistake but putting on the left side greatly increased the risk of that happening.

I'm telling you. Now that I think of it, with the stage we are in presently in terms of squad depth and efficiency, we've been excellent over the past few games. We have no business defeating a South African side that has worked hard and hustled to where they are now. Then we wey just carry new coach come after years of unseriousness and dilly-dallying and confusion from Peseiro to Finidi will now beat them out of nowhere.

I know football is a game that comes with a lot of surprises and it can favor you on a good day, but in hindsight, we were really pushing our luck with this game.
