Lagos Bakery Workers Sentenced To 14 Days Community Service For Bread Theft by voiceoftheupcom(op): 7:18am On Sep 10, 2025
Two bakery employees in Lagos State have been handed a two-week community service sentence after being accused of stealing five loaves of bread from their workplace. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The Lagos State Ministry of Justice announced the decision in a statement on Monday, September 8, 2025, explaining that the matter was resolved through its Restorative Justice Centre (RJC) in partnership with the Non-Custodial/Community Service Centre.

According to the statement, the bakery owner had initially pressed for prosecution, but under the Ministry’s new sifting process at Magistrate Courts, a District Prosecutor referred the case for mediation rather than filing charges.

The parties later reached a settlement at the RJC, which required the two workers to serve 14 days of community service — a sentence that commenced immediately.

The Ministry noted that this approach aligns with the government’s reform agenda to reduce prison congestion while promoting reconciliation and accountability.

It emphasized that restorative justice continues to play a vital role in addressing minor offences, ensuring offenders face consequences without unnecessary imprisonment.

Good help the poor, and also give them wisdom and contentment.

Imagine if they ended up in prison for theft of “bread”

Nigerian prison for that matter. Even the bakery owner no try but the blame is with the thieves.

Hunger is not an accuse for theft, you are stealing just because you are a thief undecided

This is a very good one from the LSMJ.....we need to explore more if these rather than sending people straight to jail for the slightest crimes......waiting for obi and atiku to come issue statements blaming tinubu policies as the reason they stole bread in the first place!!

These anti-Tinubu scroungers contribute nothing good to this forum except to pollute the thread with brain dead, regurgitate abuse on their hate object(Tinubu)
Many of us do not like the man, but we do not spend our days hurling insults and turning every response and discussion to Tinubu!
The MODs need to do something about this! Seun should as a matter of urgency restrict these people! We need contribution that nourish not those that create bad thoughts and energy!

So the bakery owner wanted them to be prosecuted for stealing 5 loaves? huh

Me thinks they have been stealing his bread before, which is why the owner was pressing for stiffer penalties but thank God for mercy. Perhaps they will change after serving their punishment.

Why is it that the Nigerian judiciary only punishes the poor for any crime or misdemeanor? I do not support stealing, but what is good for goose is also good for the gander. Some people steal billions of Naira are they are left off the hook, why?
