You quoted an opinion piece by people who believe it was without legal authority. But Obama and the DOJ predicated the strike on the AUMF. Therefore, they say it had legal authority.
Al-Awlaki, was an al-Qaida propagandist who the Obama administration believed was planning an imminent strike on the US.
They argued in the legal memo they wrote that the Authorization to use Military Force gave them the right to kill even an American who was part of an enemy force abroad planning an imminent strike on the US.

What is so weird about this argument. You are arguing for someone the US government believed was trying to kill Americans.
You would normally be celebrating killing "terrorists" abroad. And what do you think Obama who everyone on the right thought was a secret Muslim and Al Quaeda supporter's end goal was here? Just kill an American who happened to support Muslims?
