So you've heard the gospel. Tech is the new oil, everyone should learn Python, and your WhatsApp is full of "I just got my first remote job" screenshots. The LinkedIn motivational posts are flowing like free weekend data. But let's pause and ask: Tech don cast, what next? The Market Reality Check The Nigerian tech training space is more crowded than Third Mainland Bridge on Friday evening. Everyone's selling the same dream with different packaging. "Zero to $3000 in 3 months!" "Learn coding and relocate to Canada!" The promises are everywhere. Here's what nobody wants to tell you. Most tech training programs in Nigeria have completion rates below 30% (check https://dataslid.africa for the actual numbers). That's not success, that's a retention disaster. The market is drowning in overnight experts selling recycled YouTube tutorials as premium courses. The Sarcastic Solutions Everyone's Pushing "Just Add AI to Everything!" Because slapping "AI-powered" on your basic HTML course will magically make students employable. Never mind they can't center a div properly. "It's About Mindset, Not Skills!" Perfect excuse when students can't build anything after six months. "They just need to believe more!" "Create a Community!" Another Telegram group for motivational quotes won't debug your code or land you that job. What Actually Works The real opportunity isn't selling dreams, it's delivering results. Focus on job-ready outcomes, not course completion. "Build and deploy 5 client websites in 4 months" beats "Learn web development" every time. Price for commitment, not accessibility. The ₦15,000 course attracts bargain hunters, not serious learners. People who invest ₦150,000+ actually complete programs and take action. The Real Gap While everyone fights over "learn to code," the actual opportunity is implementation support. Job placement, client acquisition, portfolio development, ongoing mentorship after the course ends. This is where serious providers can win. Bottom Line Tech has cast, but what's next isn't another course or promise. What's next is accountability and measurable results. The market is ready for providers who deliver on promises instead of just making them. The question is: are you ready to do the unglamorous work of actually getting students employed? |

Tech no cast, Na the illusion cast. Not everyone can withstand the learning curve of tech. Just imagine how long it will take to be a full fledged backend developer, the myriad of tech stack to learn and you want to start getting jobs in 6 months and also earnings 6figures salary dey play. |

I usually don’t comment on posts like this, but for posterity’s sake, I’ll say this once more: If you’re a Nigerian and you’re privileged to have supportive parents, access to a laptop, internet, and electricity, and you don’t have to worry about food you don’t realize how much God has done for you. Take it extremely seriously. It doesn’t matter how you start. I began with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Today, I work with financial systems, and I recently got a job that allows me to use Objective-C, Java, AWS, and Heroku. Tech has opened doors for me I never imagined, and I’m still just getting started. My next goal is to transition into AI engineering or integrate AI into my current work as a programmer. Don’t let negativity on the internet discourage you. Just the other day, a few fresh Unilag graduates landed top jobs with major firms in the UK. Personally, I left Nigeria for Chile, and even as a student, I was working with the biggest bank in the entire country. If you’ve been given the privilege of the right environment and tools, don’t take it for granted. Tech can change your life. it changed mine. |

| Re: Tech Don Cast! What Next? by PureHustle(m): 3:56pm On Sep 17, 2025 |
tensazangetsu20:I started coding in Feb. 2024 with Java, even though there was a lot of inconsistencies, I was able to grab the fundamentals of Java (OOP concepts, Arrays, String and its methods etc) nothing really practical. By March this year, I started software development with federal govt. #3mtt programme, due to the tech stack used, I moved into MERN stack development, I am currently working on my capstone project which is a full stack movie recommendation app using external API (TMDB) ... Boss, the road seems very far, this is my second year and there is no even a glimpse of getting there. The worst, most of these online intership programs are putting Bsc as a requirement and that, I don't have. |

PureHustle:The bitter truth is that you don’t want this enough. Feb 2024 till now and you are confused. Learning to code today is so much easier than ever. You have AI tools. In our time we would go on stack overflow to ask questions and get bullied and our accounts flagged. At a point I had like 20 different accounts on Stack overflow. If you are confused, I don’t know what to say to you. Maybe you should choose another career. |

Also the capstone project is stupid. Movie recommendation with api 😂. With the advancements in AI this is what is your project. Maybe you don’t know what they are asking in interviews now. |

tensazangetsu20:Thanks for the reply, I was hoping to go for some free virtual interships when the project is concluded, building my resume around it as well as the 3mtt programme (I have none now). Also, I hope to get my hand wet on some other projects that would solidify my knowledge of the stack or start leetcoding (I have a very strong mathematics and reasoning background). Do you have any suggestion? I hope that would be very helpful. |

tensazangetsu20:I think you should learn to advise people without making them feel bad about themselves. This person may be feeling bad anyway, why make it worse. Infact you're not trying to help, just trash talking. We all started learning this way, from basic calculator app to a todo app, I don't see anything wrong with that. Please let him grow at his own pace, nobody gets there overnight Peace ✌️ |
