JsScript:
I think you should learn to advise people without making them feel bad about themselves. This person may be feeling bad anyway, why make it worse.
Infact you're not trying to help, just trash talking.
We all started learning this way, from basic calculator app to a todo app, I don't see anything wrong with that.

Please let him grow at his own pace, nobody gets there overnight
Peace ✌️
Yes but it’s been two years not six months. A capstone project of a movies recommendation app after two years especially with all the advancements we have now doesn’t cut it.

Like I explained boss, 2024 was all about Java and inconsistency, I start web dev around March this year. Besides, all that don't matter. What matters is how to move forward. Any advice is welcome.

Java is good if you can pick that up especially for the Nigerian job market. Most of the fintech and banks use Java and c#. If you are confident in Java start applying to jobs now especially with all the graduate trainee roles that are available.

How about I pick up Java/SpringBoot + leetcoding in Java after my project, while I work on another MERN stack project to add to my resume? Hope I would not be overwhelming myself? I am not a graduate, I got no degree.

The bitter truth is that you don’t want this enough. Feb 2024 till now and you are confused. Learning to code today is so much easier than ever. You have AI tools. In our time we would go on stack overflow to ask questions and get bullied and our accounts flagged. At a point I had like 20 different accounts on Stack overflow. If you are confused, I don’t know what to say to you. Maybe you should choose another career.

I usually don’t comment on posts like this, but for posterity’s sake, I’ll say this once more:

If you’re a Nigerian and you’re privileged to have supportive parents, access to a laptop, internet, and electricity, and you don’t have to worry about food you don’t realize how much God has done for you. Take it extremely seriously.

It doesn’t matter how you start. I began with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Today, I work with financial systems, and I recently got a job that allows me to use Objective-C, Java, AWS, and Heroku. Tech has opened doors for me I never imagined, and I’m still just getting started. My next goal is to transition into AI engineering or integrate AI into my current work as a programmer.

Don’t let negativity on the internet discourage you. Just the other day, a few fresh Unilag graduates landed top jobs with major firms in the UK. Personally, I left Nigeria for Chile, and even as a student, I was working with the biggest bank in the entire country.

If you’ve been given the privilege of the right environment and tools, don’t take it for granted. Tech can change your life. it changed mine.
I want to get this idea of moving overseas. Do you advice someone in this tech field earning close to ₦10m monthly to move abroad?
I see guys who earn ₦5m monthly still traveling out for better opportunities.
Does it worth it?

Yes. If you are earning 10 million in Nigeria, you can definitely make 3 times more abroad especially in tech.

I do feel like it is about earning ×3 alone. What about the taxes and expenses abroad.

So long as you don’t live in Europe you are good. Forget all the stories you hear from people in Nigeria. I personally can’t relate 😀

That's not true
The only reason a person making 5 Million monthly should japa should be based on bagging an oversee job recruitment. Any other reason of going should be to advance learning that is relevant and practical to making him make more than he's currently making, shouldn't be going there to do menial work

moving overseas is a cost/benefit analysis. what are your goals? more money? better life? escape from nigerian problems? if money, research realistic earning potential and taxes. if something else, is it achievable?

This is my 15 year in tech. I started while in University.

When going into tech, HAVE A GOAL.

I had apps I needed to use. But no money to pay a coder to do it for me. So what did I do? I built it myself. That's how I started learning programming.

I built apps I use. My first ever app I built for myself was big and took me 3 - 5 years to do.

I later sold it for $5k. POOR. But who cares. Solved my needs - my 1st car purchase.

The current app I am building now earns me cool money every day. Its been 2 years of building it. And I still add more to it till today.
It makes me cool money daily.
Today alone it made me about $1k.

Am I still looking for tech jobs? Probably. Maybe I will own tech giant company.

My approach to tech is: Tech is for my own consumption. Not just for looking for jobs.

Do I know as all things? NO

I just learnt enough to get the job done.

Tech is more of your mind to solve problems and visualize steps I solving problems. Then put it into codes. Any how you achieve that is enough.

Infact I've forgotten some languages I learnt before

Does that mean I can't code again in them or even any new language? NO.

I can still get back on them. Theres a way to think when writing programs. And that is the most important thing.

So, is tech a scam?

NO.

TECH IS NOT A SCAM.

APPROACH IT LIKE AN ENTERPRENEUR.

DON'T BUILD USELESS PROJECTS YOU DON'T NEED, JUST TO HAVE A PORTFOLIO.

BUILD ONLY WHAT WILL GIVE YOU MONEY.

DON'T RUSH YOURSELF. YOU WILL GET THERE.

Thank you for taking your time to share. Mindset matters a lot when learning or going into tech and the fail-safe way is being business minded.

Not everybody gets to work with a big tech co but there are a lot of tools and 2d game ideas you could build as a solo developer and earn from them. Last year, I made over 35m from a single app from the comfort of my village grin though not as much as I still dream and work hard for but then its something. Lot of stuffs I have learnt as well which I could not even remember learning until I need to use the knowledge for a project. Just last week I got a reminder from AWS for a cloud developer certification renewal I took years back and never applied to jobs for but the knowledge alone has helped me scale personal projects. What I am trying to say in short is the business is tech still doing wonders if as a developer you bother yourself less about the trends flying around until you really need to apply their uses.

Tech no fit cast abeg, na reality that its not for everybody just they fall people hand day by day.
