Imagine building a bridge from Lagos island to Delta state on the sea, to cut off all the people on land.

That is wat they did here.

Nope! Carter Bridge has long been in existence before the Eko Bridge came to being. I guess the Eko Bridge was built and commissioned by General Yakubu Gowon

Carter bridge was built in the early 1900s.
Back then. It was the only way to access the island conveniently except you wanted to be ferried across at Iddo. It was named after the governor of Lagos.
Ẹkọ bridge was built by Gowon and commissioned by OBJ in the late 70s.

A ride on the 3rd Lagos Mainland Bridge anytime and anyday especially when sloping towards the Ebutte Meta axis is always an awesome adventure with fun and awe of this architectural wonder by Julius Berger.

The bridge crosses the lagoon - a body of water. How do you build a road over a large body of water like the lagoon? Obviously a bridge is needed for easy commute between the mainland and the island in Lagos.

Its either only through bridges, underground tunnels, boats, ferries or airlines - planes, helicopter s etc. the bridge is the most convenient practice.

Its a standard practice all over the world, unless the mainland and the island in Lagos want to continue using boats and ferries before the bridge was commissioned.

And for the record, I be confirm Ojodu Berger boy..born, grow, school, settle down in Lagos..allllllllll my life, all my siblings are Lagosians. My papa served for Lagos state government under ministry of Defence..only time we ( siblings) ever went away from Lagos na school matter, UNAD, UI, OAU, Last born no kuku ever stepped out of Lagos..LASPO product..
Even if we no get anything connected Lagos
..so far we be Yoruba, that would do..😛😛😛😛🤭😋😋

They did not build the bridge to cross the Lagoon unto the mainland.



They built the bridge to cut the mainland off from the island direct to Ikeja.


Do u understand now?


They could have built more roads on the mainland instead to open more route, which will benefit more people rather than joining the bridge at 2 points

But Ikeja is on the mainland. Everywhere on the mainland can easily connect to Ikeja and find a way to the mainland.

Otherwise, the other route would have been on boats through the lagoon which is not convenient.
If that was the case, many wouldn't be building/buying houses on the island if they can't connect with people on the mainland.

The bridge was built way before GSM and the main way everyone contacted each other back then was through letters, telegraph and seeing face to face. Without the bridge, commerce and many more areas in Lagos would have been greatly affected.

That's my view though, I may be wrong.
