A Nigerian lady has triggered heated discussions online after sharing a controversial video where she bluntly stated that people who cannot provide basic comfort have no business bringing children into the world.

In the clip, she argued that:

Anyone still boarding public buses with a baby strapped to their back should reconsider having children.

Couples still living with their parents should not be starting families.

Parents who struggle to pay school fees on time should not be having additional children.

She went further to say that if a child is forced to hawk or accompany parents to shops and markets in school uniform immediately after classes, then the decision to have children was already a mistake. According to her, if a couple cannot consistently afford three square meals, they should not have children at all.

The lady emphasized that her point had nothing to do with education, but with common sense and responsible planning.

Although the video was originally recorded in August, it resurfaced this weekend on Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter), where it quickly began trending and attracting a wave of reactions.

Many viewers strongly criticized her stance, describing it as insensitive and disconnected from the realities of economic hardship faced by millions. Others argued that raising a family is a fundamental right and not something that should be dictated by financial status.

The video continues to spark debate across social media, as people share conflicting opinions on whether financial stability should be a prerequisite for parenthood.

She's right. Why bring children into this world to suffer? We have suffered on their behalf. My hubby and I agreed on only 2 children not because we can train them. Gone are days when people born 12. Even if you are a farmer, business man, born what you can carter for and give them good life comfortably like our politicians do.
It is just irresponsibility. When i become governor, there would be a special task force to protect children.

If an under 18 is seen hawking, the child would be taken and their parents called to pick them up at the nearest station. Once parents arrive, they will be locked for atleast 3 days and the children would be sent to orphanage till the parents can proved that they are now responsible and financially able to carter for children. In short it would be a crime for parents that have “offended” in this regard to have more children angry

She has warned. Let those with ears and those who claim to have common sense hear.

Again, Nigerians remain too strange a people. Read the comments. Does anyone need to tell anyone not to have children they know they cannot afford? Later, those commenters will still beg you for funds for medicine, pampers and school fees; say no.

When I see children hawking, begging or constituting a nuisance to the windscreen of my car, I feel a deep sense of disgust and anger. And in a rightful and intelligent society, they should be seized by social services and their parents arrested and punished.

If there are people within the national legislature and executive that view this platform, I would encourage them before it’s too late to amend the recent tax laws to include an added tax on anyone who has more than 1 or 2 children. It would assist in reducing this population of daftness since they (the leaders) have massacred the education sector.

AImatter:
➜The father should have the children we all know in any culture any nation the father has the children as the kids that is it especially when they have grown but it in case of younger ones can stay with their mother pending when they grow
Nonsense! 😏

In sane countries, fathers are equally responsible for raising their own children from the day they are born.

Roaming Aunty, you ought to know that no everyone will own a car, or have money for cabs/bolt/Uber etc, to now say that if someone have a baby strapped behind her and looking to commute in Public Transportation, the person ought not to have a child or limit the number of child is outright hogwash.

I would have thought you have been healed with this Roaming things of yours but it seems, the agana is a strong one.

She is very correct.

I have been saying this for a very longtime now.

Nigerians keep giving birth like rats when they don't have the means to take care of the children.

This has resulted in over population and the resultant increase in crimes.

If our parents were to have strictly enforced this then many of us wouldn’t be born today, infact there wouldn’t be up to a million in the world as a whole

It would have been very much OK if most were not born. At least that nation(Nigerian) and life in it would seem a lot less hellish than it is today to the vast majority. 😏

I wanted to argue with her, but looking at the environment the video was made, I had no option than to reason with her.

If we were to adopt her hypothesis, the world would have missed a lot of talents and breakthroughs.

Cuz we wouldn't have had people like:

Mike Adenuga - who worked as a taxi driver to fund his education
Victor Osihmen - World class footballer who sold pure water in Lagos traffic
Patoranking - who moved from Ebony to Lagos to hawk gala.
Oprah Winfrey - Media Mogul who was born to a teenage single mother in Mississippi, in a neighbourhood that didn't have electricity and running water.
Jan Koum - Founder of Whatsapp
Howard Schultz - former Starbucks CEO
Harold Hamm - was raised by Oklahoma sharecroppers. This self-made billionaire started out by picking cotton barefooted.
Roman Abramovich - Russian Billionaire who was born into poverty in southern Russia where he was orphaned by age two.
Dolly Parton - Renowned artist
Lakshmi Mittal - Indian Steel Tycoon
Jay Z - Named greatest rapper of all time by Billboard and Vibe

The list goes on and on...

Life is not a 1+1=2 thing like the "social media people" want to make it seem.
You make sense. But she wants to determine her tomorrow by the today that was forced on her, not the tomorrow she can create or can happen.

She is free not ot have children if she is not already riding a car.

How many poor people do IVF?? God gives them children freely while He withholds it from some. God gives children not our calculations. Financial status should never be the criteria for having or not having a child.

She is obviously not exposed, else she would have know that 80% of the rich and famous all over the world came from nothing background not even humble ones, but poverty and the grew up to become great employers of Labour and great men today. Have children you can take care of. Old age without children u go know how far.

I understand her point sha.
Most Nigerians parent have that behaviour of having children with no plans what so ever, the notion is always " God go take care of them"
The crazy thing is they will depend on the same children take care of them at old age
Re: Nigerian Lady Sparks Debate With Viral Video On Who Should Have Children(pix/vid by tobstarizhia(m): 7:02am On Sep 21, 2025
She's not wrong. However I'd rather poor people have just one child than none at all. The only issue is would they be responsible enough to not have another after the first. Poor people tends to have more children, and it's not because they are more sexually active than the richer ones it's more because of lack of planning, which is something that extends beyond their family life, and may even be responsible for them being poor to begin with.

This is a very irresponsible take and pushes a wrong agenda. Life happens, some people can be up today and down tomorrow. No one knows what the future holds for a lot of poeple we call rich and poor today.

We can advice people to have a manageable number of kids, but not avoid having kids entirely. As a young person, don't keep blaming your parents for your condition, it blinds you from seeing the potentials you can achieve if you try. There are many free resources that can transform a man from poor to wealthy and it's all about information and right timing.

Wealth and poverty can be transient if you want it to be and it is not a permanent identity. It's only foolishness and wisdom that are permanent identities.

If you happen to come from a poor family, please learn a skill. YouTube and a little bit of data can work the magic. If you don't have data, look for a friend that can Hotspot you, download tutorials on your phone (video editing, digital marketing, graphic design, etc) Study it and get good at it. Sell this service and start from there.

If you're wealthy already, make sure your pipeline is full, because wealth not replenished will quickly run dry. Diversify, invest and plan for unforseen circumstances. Replicate the discipline that helped you acquire wealth in your kids, because if they don't get the discipline, alongside the inheritance, they will squander everything in a season.

Ultimately, let's pray for good fortune and God's guidance.

You might not like what she said.
But the truth is bitter.
If you cannot take care of yourself, you have no business getting married or even having children.
and what if a person has alot, bear children and after some times not been able to afford basic things.. The children should be dumped inside the dustbin?

If poor people birth only one child or none at all, the country will become better. Their only argument is that one out of fifty children may become a billionaire and he/she will lift the entire household out of poverty. Reality shows this is hardly the case.
live and let others live…everybody has a story to tell. Even Davido, born with a silver spoon still stylishly form say him don suffer before…..Not everyone will become rich..
