Guy, the word "CHURCH" doesn't mean building according to God's word rather it means a group of people practicing what Jesus taught!

The word Church means both building and gathering of the people depending on what you are using it for in a sentence!

Dictionary gives meanings that's popular among people but God's word say the truth even though only few people knows it.

When Christianity was born as a baby the signs of childishness comes along like necessary things the Jews needs to see in order to know that their God no longer approves Judaism, that's why all the signs, visions, dreams and tongues came along with the newly born religion {1Corinthans 13:11} but as soon as faithful Jews have recognized the new covenant all these signs must stop {1Corinthans 13:8} and the only thing that will remain as sign of true religion is what Jesus told his disciples: LOVE {1Corinthans 13:13} which must always reign among true believers! John 13:34-35

So what is the purpose of the childish things that Christianity displayed in the first century?

Before Jesus God inspired men to pen down what we need to know about true religion {Hebrews 1:1} that's the purpose of the Bible but then the old covenant ended with John the baptist {Matthew 11:11} while the new began with the Apostles at Pentecost so these people must be equipped with signs for faithful Jews to know their God is now using Christianity and no longer Judaism.

So they spoke in tongues for two major reasons: first to preach to gentiles who were formerly Judaists and conversant with the old covenant {Act 2:2-11} secondly inspirations continues as God keeps revealing sacred secrets to the Christians while Judaists who wants to harm them usually comes around pretending to be believers so speaking in tongues helps first century disciples of Christ to get sacred secrets even when enemies are around after all the interpretation is only given to faithful ones.

But after the completion of sacred writings all these signs stopped completely.

So today what fake Christians are doing is showy display of fake signs that's of no practical benefits that's why nobody can mention any religion/church today that's doing exactly what first century disciples of Christ did back then regarding supernatural signs! Matthew 7:21-23
