So constructing a massive modern drainage system that will drain all these waters to the atlantic ocean during raining seasons is like building a space rocket to tinibu and his ruling lagos gang?

But government needs to come to their aids nsh
The government can't do anything. That area is below sea level, so whenever it rains and the ocean swells, the water flows back onto land instead of moving into the ocean.

Nobody in their right mind should buy a house in Lekki for the next 20 years. The whole area is sinking, bad drainage, dredging has messed up the natural protection it had and sea levels are rising.

Your kids won't see that house as adults.

Either go to Ajah or move to the mainland.

Real estate developers should start making estates like the ones they have in Lekki (fully serviced, 24-hr light and water with gated security) in Gbagada, Ikeja and Surulere and more businesses should move there (though a lot of businesses have left Lekki).

Lekki is nothing. Surulere is cleaner, Gbagada more central, Ikeja has better roads. If I were their LG chairman, I'd offer tax incentives to businesses and real estate developers in Lekki (to attract high income earners) to move to my area, all the roads will be tarred and I'll drive the area boys to Lekki (there are more beggars in Lekki than anywhere else in Lagos).

There's nothing in Lekki anymore. All the people who have money are running from there to Ikoyi and VI.
I don't even know why people from outside lagos are spending billions to buy properties in lekki?

No kind of drainage can stop this deluge. They should consult the Dutch on how they were able to tame the ocean from sinking their land. They are masters in that field.

No wonder my town's guy, who is big on spare parts at Ladipo, opened another spare parts at Ikate axis, Lekki. The dude has seen "potential" along that axis. He earlier told me that many mechanics and car owners comes to his shop at Ladipo to pick up parts. He has now decided to bring his shop closer to that population. He deals on high-end spare parts for luxury cars.

they can't do such projects because once Tinubu & co see capital expenditure needed to build massive underground water drains, they'd just rubbish it and give inferior local companies with zero modern expertise needed to redesign and rebuild. Until then, lagosians should pray for "miracle".

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources in Lagos State, Mahmood Adegbite, has said that people drilling borehole in the Lekki axis of the state is probably drinking ‘’shit water.”

While speaking at a stakeholders meeting in the state recently, Adegbite noted that contaminated boreholes in Lekki pose health risk and added that treatment of waste water would eradicate any form of disease that may arise from it.

He said, “On waste water treatment, I will say that everyone digging borehole within the Lekki axis is probably drinking what I will call ‘shit water.’

They drink sewage water cos most of these buildings have no more spaces around them. Hey mostly build up to 80% of their spaces and the next building is the same , so when the next building sinks his own borehole it won't be too far from the other guys sewage system.

No planning at all but all filled with greedy people including pastors and imams parading themselves as developers. Some inner lekki streets you can't have two cars side by side on them. A complete modern slum been built up there.

I don't like this flood here flood there very now and then in Nigeria mostly Lagos. Our government should be serious with good roads and proper drainage systems as well good waste management systems. I believe if they do so, it will help address the issue to a minimal .

Why should people dig boreholes for water in this 21st century city built with Tinubu’s lootocracy master plan?

Is this how boreholes supply water to homes in Chicago, Paris, London, Toronto etc?

PANDORA PAPERS: Buhari visited Tinubu in corruption-tainted London villa acquired by Oyetola

Governor Oyetola, a relative of Mr Tinubu, may have sabotaged his own country by buying the exotic property as Nigeria made to seize it.
ByNicholas IbekweandTaiwo-Hassan Adebayo October 7, 2021 in Headline Stories, Pandora Papers Reading Time: 8 mins read

It was a meeting of two of Nigeria’s most influential politicians in London – President Muhammadu Buhari was visiting political kingmaker and senior member of his ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

In July, the presidency announced that Mr Buhari was heading to London for an education summit. The office also added that the president would also see his doctors for “medical check-up”.

Coincidentally, Mr Tinubu, who had travelled to London earlier, was also receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment in the British capital. So, a perfect setting for both men to meet was created.

The lack of state-owned pipe-borne water in the homes of Lagos residents has continued to be a source of concern, a non-profit group, Corporate Accountability and Public Advocacy Africa (CAPPA) has said.

At a press event to mark this year’s World Water Day, the group said its monitoring team’s visit to state-owned waterworks showed that most of them are not operational.

The group said the waterworks it visited include the ones at Maryland, Mushin, Ikorodu, Obalende, Agbowa, Onikan, Ikoyi, and Amuwo Odofin.

Only the one in Ikoyi is producing water, according to CAPPA.

No. This was not caused by over crowding and refuse dumping, lekki itself is below sea level and it is sinking gradually due to dredging.

I thought it was caused by government stealing our money instead of employing well paid civil servants to make common services and public utilities available?

Services and utilities like water supply, well maintained drains etc huh

The Lagos lootocracy master plan has been upgraded to Abuja federal.

chisomkachy:
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s first supplementary budget includes a fleet of SUVs for himself and his wife, a presidential yacht and the renovation of his villa amid a cost-of-living crisis for some of the poorest people in the world.

The proposal — which seeks additional funding beyond the annual budget approved by Tinubu’s predecessor — comes as the government asks Nigerians to persevere through pain caused in part by a raft of economic reforms ushered in by the new president. Africa’s most populous country faces rampant unemployment, soaring food prices and a plummeting currency.

Federal lawmakers approved the president’s request for extra spending on Thursday, but eliminated the provision of 5 billion naira ($6.01 million) to buy a presidential yacht. Instead, they doubled the allocation to a student loan fund to 10 billion naira, according Abubakar Bichi, chairman of an appropriations committee in the House of Representatives.

The lawmakers approved 1.5 billion-naira proposed to purchase SUVs for the office of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu — an amount larger than that allocated to many individual federal colleges. The supplementary budget also proposes almost 6 billion naira to purchase SUVs for the presidency — more than the amount initially allocated to fund a student loan program for poor families.

It's just quiet unfortunate that things are happening this way. For a more efficient water system, government needs to privatize that axis under the ministry of water resources like it is done in Italy and so. This will put a stop to stealing of materials meant for purifying the accessible water in that axis.

The ministry has an avalanche of staffs doing practically nothing and also drawing funds in salaries and allowances cos the water they are suppose to provide to people is been dug individually with reckless abandon with no single permit, inspection and authorization which is a recipe for future underground disaster. Go to any damn in Nigeria you will be ashamed of yourself , those out in positions are a total disaster ..
Re: Massive Floods In Lekki, Lagos (Videos) by NoToPile: 8:59am On Sep 24, 2025
There's really nothing that can be done when rain falls in that axis , the ocean is higher there.

Central Lagos is there, lots of places are already dry this morning even as another rain is gearing up to fall.

My sister and her husband moved from Lekki 1 to Ikoyi. And even Ikoyi isn't that great. Even 1004 in VI have issues with their management and tenants who do annoying things like have gas cookers or carry furniture in the elevators.

Nigeria doesn't really know how to run these things.

Lagos shouldn't be building houses anymore, they should be erecting high rise flats like 1004 but higher. Just that real estate is massively overpriced in Lagos and Ogun state is the most poorly run state in Nigeria (because their state govt should have fought to have rails connection to Lagos or even make sure their state is so developed, people move there and can get to Lagos in 30mins).
