The confusion intensified when the Nigerian government stated that special visas would be issued for skilled Nigerians to relocate to their counterpart, Kisarazu. Japan denied that such visas would be issued, and the Nigerian government later corrected its statement. However, this did little to dampen the rumors, with protests being organized for the agreement to be canceled. At the thematic events of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) held this August, JICA announced the “JICA Africa Hometown” initiative. This initiative aimed at designating four municipalities in Japan as “JICA Africa Hometown” for four African countries respectively, with the goal of promoting exchanges between them through various exchange programs.https://www.jica.go.jp/english/information/notice/2025/1573131_66428.html Previous Thread: Japan Designates Kisarazu As Hometown For Nigerians

fergie001:Your headline is disingenuous, why make it look like it had anything to do with Nigeria?. It was an intiative for to designate some parts of their municipalities as home towns for some selected African countries. And if they cancelled the initiative, what's our business with that?. If Government of Japan did not consult the local people before announcing such an initiative and the local people protested against it, which prompted their Government to reverse it, then what's our own business?. Why make it as if it had anything to do with us?. Be taking it easy with this agenda. |

zero8zero:Nigeria govt didn't help much by peddling false news. The Japanese have a high sense of morality and honour and this Government has disgraced us terribly with the lies.

In simple words, the Japanese do not want Nigerians to come to their country. No white-washing needed. |

fergie001:I repeat, you're being disingenuous and it doesn't help you one bit. Meanwhile, you just added " others" to the headline. The headline only carried Nigeria initially. Perhaps, your conscience pricked you. Maybe it was nlfpmod who added it to make the headline more reasonable. Now, below is your preamble: fergie001:Meanwhile, below was officially the reason it was reversed: However, JICA believes that the very nature of this initiative—namely, the term “hometown” and the fact that JICA would ‘designate’ Japanese local Governments as “hometowns”—led to misunderstandings and confusion within Japan, placing an excessive burden on the four municipalities. JICA sincerely apologizes to the municipalities involved for causing such situation. |

Another result of Tinubu's incompetence in governance. In their desperation to look competent and score cheap political points, they resorted to fabricating claims against the Japanese government. |

Japanese people are conservative and nationalists, they don't want to be invaded by Africans. I don't blame them. Maybe if Nigeria would've avoided this embarrassment if they adopted their mentality, stayed back and focused on building their country and electing proper leaders to help instead of running all over the globe seeking for shelter. |

Japanese people protested against it and their government listened to them. It has nothing to do with Nigerian government |

TLTR: To those who go to another Person’s country, state or land and boldly pronounce it a “no man’s land” & when the natives kick against such erroneous labeling or vow to protect their traditional heritage/culture are further accused of bigotry or tribalism, I hope they’ll not pretend not to see or understand what the Japanese have just done. You don’t joke with or try to trivialize or erase a people’s history in the name of wokeness or civilization, it’ll always backfire. The Japanese Government was trying to be more civilized & accommodating by naming certain cities as “hometowns” for Africans but the people of those areas resisted it & now have “victory” with that designation withdrawn! |

zero8zero:I kind of agreed with you, it was rather disingenuous of him. Knowing Japan and these Asian countries, they don't give a hoot about multiculturalism and liberalism, they don't give a hoot about African other than the economic benefits they stand to gain. There's high level of racism among them against Africa. Not surprised they wouldn't accept any designated "hometowns" for Africans on their soil even though their Govt had a genuine intention for it. -Kiss the truth! |

casualobserver:It is best how Japan has scrapped it. Quickly do a case study around the world. Go to their prisons get the list of the names of Nigerians in their prisons and you will realize a certain consistency with the names. A reason why, a true Nigerian should be happy for the step the Japanese Government has taken. |

fergie001:I don't know about budaatum, I know the thread carries your moniker. And you deliberately painted your own picture in the preamble which is still up there. It is entirely different from the content of the article. You deliberately wanted to paint a certain picture in the minds of the people. Try harder next time. |

It will be difficult for the two countries to mix socially. Japanese people are extremely straightforward and they hate corruption. The country that will fit Nigeria is Russia. |
