Hello and thanks for starting this thread! The Portugal Job Seeker Visa is definitely an exciting option for Nigerians interested in exploring work opportunities abroad. It’s great to see you gathering all the essential steps and resources in one place, especially since this visa is still new and there isn’t much information readily available. For those interested, this thread will be invaluable for exchanging insights and experiences on each part of the process, from the visa prep checklist to passport renewal, police character certificates, funds required, and even navigating accommodation in Portugal. I hope this becomes a helpful space for everyone to share their progress and advice. Looking forward to seeing this thread grow and maybe one day meeting in Portugal for that lunch in Lisboa or Porto! Best of luck to everyone embarking on this journey. Let’s go! 🌍 |

[quote author=Olayinkaoj post=128276368]Be warned, the jobs available are hotel and restaurant waiters (in summer) , labourers in construction site (all-round the year), farm/garden/fruit pickup (seasonal), but gardening can be all-year round. Wages are low, €5.20 to €6 per hour in that category. You can make up to €860-€900/month if you work for about 20 days in a month. If you have extra days to work, and you are a labourer in construction, you can earn up to €1,100 or €1,200/month, mostly in summer when you have longer day, and if you work 9 hours/day. Portugal is not an industrialized country or a warehouse/logistic hub like Germany, and so, don't expect much. Their own children also go to central Europe in search of greener pasture. Accommodation is scarce but available in location where there's no job. In places where you can find jobs, it's always difficult to find accommodation and it's between €250-€350/room. And this is why Indians, Pakistanis, Bangla, Afghans can be up to 4 people in a room and pay €150/bedspace. But the good news is, in 5 years, you will obtain your permanent residence card, which would allow you to stay and work in any part of EU, and if your proficiency is high in Portuguese, you can apply for a Portuguese passport immediately after your Permanent Resident card. Your passport is visa-free to Canada, America, UK and almost everywhere. Weigh the options and know that you are not coming to a place where life is that easy. [/quot bro I just send you a pm |

lady25:Please, did you start working immediately you got your Employment Letter and signed it? or did you wait to book a date with SEF/AIMA and after submitting your Employment Letter with SEF/AIMA on the appointment date before you could start working? |
| Re: Portugal Job Seekers Visa by lady25(f): 12:10pm On Sep 27, 2025 |
jfub:I started immediately. Your appointment with AIMA is for you to get your residency card.... |

lady25:Okay, thank you very much. |
| Re: Portugal Job Seekers Visa by jfub: 7:56am On Oct 18, 2025 |
lady25:Please, how did you solve the issue of return ticket? (1) I know someone cannot just buy a real ticket when he or she is not certain the visa will be granted; please, what did you submit to the Embassy during your application? (2) When your plane landed in Portugal what ticket did you also present to the immigration officials? knowing that you will be required to fly back to Nigeria if you didn't get a job in 120 days? |
| Re: Portugal Job Seekers Visa by lady25(f): 9:53pm On Oct 18, 2025 |
jfub:1. You are required to book a return ticket 2. You would present your return ticket But according to the newly released laws, job seeker is fir highly skilled professionals from henceforth. Its sad though |

Good day everyone I'm an Erasmus scholar and my first mobility is Portugal. With this new authentication development, they mentioned that the school should send academics transcript to the MoE but on the authentication website, there is a page to upload transcript. Which one should I follow and do I still need to tell my school to send verification letter to the ministry?
|
| Re: Portugal Job Seekers Visa by freedomtours(m): 11:19pm On Apr 24 |
jfub:Your school can send to ministry of education your transcript cope and you can come to Abuja to pick it and authenticate if you want to do it yourself or someone can handle it for you. You are not longer required to send any email from your school again. |
