I would be detailing my journey into DevOps/Cloud here.

I mentioned I did a AWS cloud practitioner certification a while back in my previous thread https://www.nairaland.com/6930545/2022-experiment-1-becoming-product

Well, a DevOps and Cloud computing scholarship I applied for a while back came through recently. Talk about keeping your options open.

I know it's a long term thing but I'm enjoying the little I have experienced. Guess that coding I've been running from eventually caught up with me. Gone through css , html , python before to a degree so it shouldn't be a problem. Already learning bash scripting.
Impressive.

I was patiently waiting for the "AI will take your job" people to jump into the beautiful thread..

And they did not fail to disappoint me.

I'm beginning to believe that the people who are pushing this "AI will take your job" narrative are people who either failed to build a good career in Tech, hence are using the AI thing as an excuse for their failure or people who don't even have a job at all.

Cuz... Why the heck are they everywhere trying to discourage humans from learning and making progress in their careers?

Meanwhile, I tried venturing into DevOps sometime in 2023. I already had good knowledge of HTML and CSS before joining.. But damn, I couldn't continue.

Aside from the very demanding 9-5 that was barely paying my bills, I also needed to attend to my family and my side hustles. Worse still, I enrolled with a UK-based online Tech school, due to the difference in our time zones, the timing for the classes wasn't favourable for me at all.

Wish you luck, man..

If you’re sure you’re very good with what you learnt and can prove it. Get into more foreign dominated spaces like reddit, slack channels etc, You’ll get opportunities.

As for the G boys, you might want to learn some of their tricks. In a racist scenario where the onus is on your color and not your capabilities and it’s a non verification low hanging job. Some of their tools will help you out.

If most of the western world wants to paints us Nigerians as all the same, then you as a Nigerian must learn to fly without perching.

It just like somebody who graduated with a bachelor's degree in an art course like sociology saying that he will use chatgpt to teach SS1 - SS3 science students Physics!

Good morning bro...

Came across your thread this morning on the front page...
Good stuff... Wild journey... I'm still going through the thread tho... Just wanted to drop this here first

I'm also on my learning path towards becoming a DevOps engineer..

But I went the ALX AWS route... Enrolled for ALX cloud computing programme. Certified with the Cloud Practitioner... Currently preparing for the solutions architect certification next month..
After which I plan to focus on learning Bash for a month, then Python till the end of the year.

Had some networking experience while working at my previous job as an IT support personnel.

Had to quit my job and went back to my parents house ("Go Hard or Go Home".... I choose to "Go Hard From Home"wink so I can fully dedicate this year towards getting foundational knowledge for cloud and other things I need to learn...

My learning path hasn't really been what I expected it to be... But I'm still grinding on it ...

I'd love to connect with you ... I'll end you a PM.

The link you posted about the course you took for online surveys, the product owner stopped selling the course.... does the person still accept people into the group through direct private referral??

Interesting, You’re the first person to suggest it though. I did a bit of it in my university days. If it comes to it, I’ll pick it up. For now. Bash and python meets my levels of understanding and current duties.

I’m used to them. They forget we haven’t even gotten to the stage where human oversight of AI is not totally needed nor the AI itself perfect. Scare mongers.

Css and html can be fully done by chatgpt. Its crazy how learning that now might be a waste of time.
True. The objective is to become familiar with programming languages and be able to decode and debug if necessary.

From HNG to Altschool , aws lambda and others, I’ve ran across different languages and was able to scale through with some AI help. My non tech colleagues, fell off even with AI.

And if one ends up in a consultancy or startup. You will be forced to wear many hats.

Don’t mind the AI crew. If they don’t adapt either way, it would soon clear for their eyes.

I can relate to your struggles man, it’s not easy.

Just don’t give up. Cloud computing is still one of the very promising careers and you can still pivot when you have the time. Just move fast and hard and connect with like people.

You’re on the right path. Get that solutions architect cert and keep an eye on CIL academy programs when they open. And apply for this sterling bank disep program in the meantime.

It will do basic stuff, and a more specific stuff. Boiler plate stuff. It cannot design a whole ui or logic for your specific need. So na small task by small task till you reach your goal. And in each task, you might need to change stuff
Well we might keep arguing or denying.. Let's wait for what is coming.
Ai is going to solve complex issues that are even impossible to human or that might take ages to solve.

Talk about finding of cure for deadly disease, complx research to find cure In medicine field, cutting half the time it takes to get new drugs approved for human use.

Talking about weapon, it will help country develop advanced weapons, cyber warfare etc. China is already developing n building its ai based team. Recently UK likewise are trying to attract the brightest mind in terms of ai

Talk about aviation, flight control and similar stuff like driving of cars and improvement.

Ui design.. If ai could n will achieve the above .. Well it might not be up to your standard but believe me in few years.. You don't have to spin your head trying to get the ui designed u want.

What about if i tell u that it might not be prompt based but it could develop into reading ur mind and bringing those idea to live?

Its all about time and you should expect anything in 5 years to 10 years from now.

Guy, good luck in your endeavors. I appreciate you grinding. It reminds me of the grind to get in pre-Y2K. Enjoying the benefits of that grind now and on the back end of a career.

2 things,

(1) if the RHCSA / RHCE options are still open to you, take it. It is a path not sexy but stable especially if you are ready to grind. A lot of people cant handle it

(2) There might be opportunities in the middle east that are explorable, UAE and Qatar comes to mind. Look into them

1. Learn python(basic data types, functions, classes etc). This can take a month if you study for two hours per day.

2. Machine learning (supervised and unsupervised learning). You learn the various types of machine learning models i.e classification, regression, clustering, support vector machine, decision trees etc.
This can take 2 months If you study one hour per day.

3. Deep learning. You learn Neural networks and their architectures, Convolutional neural network for computer vision and Recurrent neural network for natural language processing. This can take 1 month if you study for 2 hours a day.

4. Generative A.I and large language model. You learn transformers, tokenization, Generative Adversarial network(GAN) and variational autoencoders. This can take 2 months if you study 2 hours a day.

5. Basic cloud computing. You can take courses AWS or Microsoft azure. I chose azure because of their learning resources and their certificates are kind of cheap for Nigerians( about $50 to $85) for an associate certification. MIcrosoft azure fundamentals(an introductory course on cloud computing) can be completed in 3 days.

You can get a solid ground on A.I programming in 6 months if you study for 2 hours a day.

Goodluck.

Getting anything remote is war now. You have to keep grinding. You can also

Test it like this.

Focus on less popular countries. Try places like norway, turkey etc. one of my guys got an AI course sponsorship to Dubai

Secondly use a vpn to open reddit, don’t go near the nigerian/african threads because people can view your post history like Nl, open a linkedin accounts and use AI for your profile picture. Change your location away from Nigeria and try applying again. You have to modify your cv also.

If that works, it means it’s more of a location issue and not a skill/competence one.

Thanks for the additional resources link you just shared.... I'll keep an eye out for them...

Also, you mentioned HNG...

I just got into into the HNG internship...
It's supposed to start in 3 weeks (grateful that it fell after my schedule AWS SAA exam date)...

Would like to know your opinion about their program... What was it like for you?
They offer a premium also, at a cost... Did you take it? Was it worth it??

For the survey group chat, I don't mind paying for it... Pls share..

You said you'll drop your email...

Already replied to some people, check last pic on front page.

HNG is good, but seems they’re looking for experienced hands and the elimination is brutal per level and if you do make it to the second to last stage, the group teamwork & product is the issue. Wrote about it on the thread somewhere. The premium just keeps you till the last levels even if you get eliminated so you can see the tasks and try them on your own. And you get to stay in their slack channels. In summary, you get exposed to new skills and tools fast and need to use them under pressure. 90% drop off.

Will drop the new survey course link when you dm

There are ways to know. Check online if the model comes with internal battery.

If you see one intact with internal batteries , use AI to help you know how to verify if it’s original.

And the last option, buy and install it in your system, just that it’s expensive. Mine is 40-45k, See why they mostly remove it? The serious ones will tell you the truth when you ask them the price of fake and genuine batteries.

All in all, better to buy from those that import directly and you’ll get solid untampered laptops
Thank you very much for the tips, It helped me to make my decision
