I changed my gear oil earlier this evening ‘cos my car jerks at times and anytime I want to move fast or climb a hilly place, it gives this very slow movement and then later moves fast.
Name of gear oil is T4, how do one even recognize the original one in case of next time.
My mechanic bought it for 65k, the last time I changed it was late 2023.
I use a Toyota Camry, big daddy

From your description, the jerking and slow response when moving fast or climbing hills could be due to gear oil quality, level, or contamination, especially if the last change was late 2023.

You mentioned using T4 gear oil — to recognize original/high-quality gear oil in the future, here are some tips:
1. Check the packaging: Genuine brands usually have sealed bottles with holograms, batch numbers, and expiry dates. Avoid unmarked or unsealed containers.
2. Buy from trusted dealers: Always purchase from official distributors or reputable auto shops.
3. Smell and color: Original T4 gear oil usually has a consistent amber color and doesn’t have a burnt or unusual smell.
4. Price vs. market rate: If the price is too low compared to standard market rates, it could be a counterfeit product.

For your Toyota Camry, using the correct grade and quality is essential to avoid jerking, delayed response, or gear wear. Since you bought it for 65k, make sure next time you check the seal, batch number, and authorized retailer.

If the jerking persists, it’s advisable to have your transmission system inspected for any internal wear or issues.

Greetings Boss, 👋🏽

For your 2009 Toyota RAV4 (Automatic Transmission), the correct gear oil is Toyota Genuine ATF WS (World Standard). This is the exact specification designed for smooth shifting and proper transmission protection.

If genuine Toyota ATF WS is not available, you can use trusted equivalents from brands like Mobil ATF WS, Idemitsu ATF Type WS, or Castrol Transmax ATF/CVT — but we still recommend sticking to Toyota’s own where possible.

Recommended service interval: every 40,000 – 60,000 km depending on driving conditions.

Get either Genuine Toyota Automatic Transmission Fluid Type WS, or AISIN WS.

Ensure you get from genuine source and your technician knows how to service the transmission.

If you need assistance, feel free to contact me. I'm in Abuja and I can service your transmission.

Cheers!
