https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBT4Lq0OFQA?si=Kr1hpDiFdaLAy8k3 An Interview with Oba Alhaji Abdulazeez Adebayo Olateju, The Oba Yoruba in Enugu, Who settled in Enugu 46 years ago, in 1979 Excerpts: Interviewer: Where are you from, sir? Oba: I am from Ede, in Osun State. Interviewer: You speak Igbo so fluently. Where did you learn it from? Oba (responding in Igbo): I learned the language here in Enugu. God gave me the gift of understanding languages and the ear to hear. Many people often wonder if I was born or schooled here, but that’s not the case. I was already an adult, fully grown when I relocated to Enugu from Osun. I even voted during the era of Jim Nwobodo and later for Shehu Shagari. Interviewer: I also learned you speak Hausa. Did you learn it here too? Oba (replying in Hausa): Yes, I speak and understand Hausa fluently but I have never lived in the North. I picked it up here in Enugu, just by listening to people around me. Oba: Everywhere I go in Igboland, people take me as one of their own. My grandmother who once tried to discourage me from settling here in Igboland but before she passed in 2012 was very happy and always thanking God for leading me to Igboland. I kept bringing all my relatives here and today they are all doing well because Igboland is good to us.

Nobody is disturbing them o I went to Yoruba line to do a slipper that only them are authorised to do. No igbo shoe maker would do it once I showed them the design They all said one thing "gaa n'ọdụ ndị Yoruba" Go to Yoruba line. Ekere ọrụ eke This business is divided Only the Yorubas do this type of foot wear. We can not do it brother. I smiled and said to myself imagine say these ones dey naira land 😂 |

Yoruba Oba is recognized in Enugu. While Ibo Oba is a taboo in Lagos ? I disagree with any King in another person's land. Highest they can have Association with leaders. |

IduNaOba:Exactly😂😂 I find it amusing when some people claim that no other tribes settle in the Southeast. Seriously, Social media has really exposed how ignorant some people can be. Take Enugu for example from Coal Camp to Ogui, Abakpa, Uwani, New Haven, Achara Layout and Emene, Yorubas are well established. Even at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, you’ll find plenty of Yoruba lecturers, traders and civil servants. I once visited Onitsha and was surprised at how many Yorubas I saw actively trading in spare parts, textiles and household goods. |

shortgun:The main point is you'll never hear a Yoruba disrespect his host or called their land "no man's land" or claim to be the one that "developed" it. Yorubas integrate and respects their hosts. They're grateful to the land of their host for whatever riches they are able to get there, not claiming to be better or denigrating their hosts. |

![]() Wait until the usual haters and tribalists come to tell you that our neigbours don't have respect and alwayy call their region a no land Wait until they tell you öur neigbours are loud With the excuses is how the seed of hatred is executed against our neigbours See an Oba in the land of our neigbours being happy and proud. Tinubu 's grab has exposed who his folks actually are |

Meanwhile, this is another classical case of harmonial and humanitarian angle to ethnic friendship between the Yorubas and the great people of alaigbo. This is a Yoruba Oba reigning supremely in alaigbo( having came there in his adulthood) with no ethno-religio-regional discrimination against him but imagine what has been happening in the opposite side. I also remember a lots of Yoruba Profs in UNN (especially music/education/GST departments) and UNEC( business admin, college of medicine - Prof Bankole Olusina etc). The owner of one of the best school in Enugu is a Yoruba man. |

funshint:If a Yoruba man calls Enugu no man's land, Igbos won't give a damn, they already know what Enugu is Lagos was capital of Nigeria for over 80 years, the collective sweat of everyone went into making it what it is So if there is anywhere in Nigeria that should be reffered to as no man's land, its Lagos |

No Igbo king is allow in Yoruba land but see this one thriving in Enugu, social media is exposing them every day |

Racoon:Correction, this is a classic case of the Yorubas enjoying peace and acceptance in Igbo land. This Yoruba man is the King of Yorubas in Enugu, no Igbo cares. But if Yorubas hear that there is a King of Igbos in Lagos or Ibadan, they will call for his arrest. To this day, I have never heard that a Yoruba man who went to Igbo land was discriminated against But I have heard of countless cases of discrimination against Igbos in Yoruba land. Aa I have said many times, Yorubas and Igbos have no business being together in one country |

funshint:How does voting for one's choice in an election amounts to disrespect? Records show that Lateef Jakande is the first person who officially called Lagos State a no man's land in his inaugural address as Governor of Lagos State in 1979. |

shortgun:This man is not an Ọba, if he is of royal extraction, he can only be an Ọba in his own hometown. He needs to stop calling himself what he is not. If person A is from Oṣogbo and settled in Enugu as does person B from Ogbomoṣo, neither of them will ever recognise, or should, each other as an Ọba over them. The Ọọni or Aláàfin should step into this matter and do something about people calling themselves Ọba in foreign lands. They are certainly not that. I suggested it was a Nigerian, not just Ndigbo, trait to start hankering for traditional titles once you have made some money and here is proof. An Ọba in Enugu, where is his kingdom? |

gidgiddy:Exactly, you’re right. In Igbo land nobody disturbs other ethnic groups from organizing themselves, choosing their leaders or living freely. This Yoruba king in Enugu is proof , he’s respected and not harassed, I even saw a video where the Yoruba king is recognized during a cultural event in Igboland. Meanwhile, the same freedom is never extended to Igbos in Yoruba land, their harmless cultural expressions are often viewed with suspicion, hostility, arrests and threats. This clearly shows who the natural accommodators are |

Association of victimhood pretenders trying to console themselves. Yes you lot are tolerant, valiant, accommodating and never discriminate. It is other who are bad and are the problem always. The rest of Nigeria plus Ghanaians, South Africans etal are simply 'misinformed'. The thread below should jog memories to show what you lot are yet now trying to pretend to be something else over the example of a single Yoruba in Igbo land. Oya Fergie, Dominique or any Igbo mod on duty kindly take out this post so no Yoruba can respond while your brothers can continue pretending to be holier than thou while demonizing Yorubas. https://www.nairaland.com/7620329/throwback-hausa-man-contesting-east

I expect to be banned any minute so the thread can be one-way censored to aid one narrative alone. The new "accommodators" of Nigeria, on account of the example of one man, make una kindly explain the revelation below. https://www..com/talk/topic,327239.0.html
