nedekid:Oga, treasury bills, a form of government bond, pays 30% per annum. Least sum to buy it is 45m. Opay and others collect money from people and use it to buy treasury bills. The 18% Opay pays you is actually less of the 30% treasury bill attracts. The difference is their profit. Yes, treasury bills pay 30% per annum. Yes, the inflation rate is mad but it is better than losing your money doing business in Nigeria |

BAGGYZONE:No bro you're the one who's mixing things. English is English slang isn't English. Because words you might take as slang might mean something else to another person that's why once it's not spoken properly it becomes confusing to the hearer. Let me give you an example. Perch means when a bird rests on something right? That's the English definition for it. But during my schooling days we made a slag out of that word and it meant cool down. So if I want to tell you to calm down I can easily say guy perch. But I wouldn't argue with anyone that perch means cool or calm down cos I'm fully aware that - that's not the dictionary definition of it. In my area I know them as egg dealers and those who preserve eggs as bankers. That's the English word for both of them which a dictionary or chatgtp can easily confirm. You're the one creating the confusion cos your slang is known only to your circle not the general populace. 😏 |

AutoTechDoyz:Okay. Please, try as much as possible to make your independent research. Most of the materials and info is up for grab anyways. You could talk to your banker though. I will start with a question. Where do you think the huge profits our bank declare come from? Nigerian banks offer very few loan credits to businesses in Nigeria. Nigerian banks don't investment in businesses also. Most of the tech companies like Piggyvest, Flutterwave, Paystack, Moniepoint were not funded by Nigerian banks. If you research deed, you would notice Nigerian banks don't invest in businesses. Who would blame them? The Nigerian economy is not business friendly, and banks don't want to lose their money. So, the question is this: where does Nigerian banks get most of the profits they declare every year? The answer is government bonds. There are many types of government bonds, of which treasury bills is one of them. Government use fiscal and monetary policy to control the economy. There are other ways though. One of the monetary policies the government use to control the economy is issuance of treasury bills. Please, research and find out the current rates. In fact, there are loads of informative videos on Tiktok if you search for 'treasury bills in Nigeria'. Government sells bond when they want to take money from circulation. The interest rate they attach to the bonds can either make people (banks inclusive) buy more bonds or not. The minimum amount for buying these bonds is 50m but you get to pay 45m. When the bonds mature, they pay you the full sum. As most people don't have 50m, people invest through third party brokers. Fintechs like Opay, Piggyvest, Chippa, etcs gets money from you, use it to buy these bonds, and pay you bank your money with interest within the stipulated time. So, back to the original question: If I had 10m, I would simply lock it with Fairmoney. They have the highest rates. They get money from their users, use it to buy bonds and share their profits with you by giving you good rates on the money you lock with them. The only difference between the money our old banks used to collect from us when we do fix deposits and locking your money with these fintechs is that the latter pay more interest |

I have said it before and will repeat myself. Nigeria economy is so volatile, you holding that 2m with no safety nets might beg for food to eat before the cock crows. Turning 2m to 10m, the only business that will sure for you is either gambling or ponzi scheme. You can choose your poison wisely. |

uchennamani:Na wah, 30%? To tell you the truth, I have been doing some research since I read your post. If one can buy them directly, why go through the banks who will cut inside the interest? Hmmm.. |

nedekid:It is actually the same. You can either buy directly from CBN or go through third party people like brokers, Opay, Fairmoney, etc if your money is less than 50m. Please, do your research very well. My money is not up to the minimum threshold so I buy through Fairmoney. The beautiful thing about this type of investment is that you could compound your investment in 2 years. Even though you could do this with the bills, it is fun when you do that with these third party issuing houses. For example, Opay and Fairmoney pays you the interest upfront. You could also fixed the interest together with the principal and compound the whole thing. Let's say you fixed 10m with Fairmoney, they would give you 30% interest upfront. This interest comes up as new income which you could fix again for another term. Before all these, please consider the following: Nigeria's inflation rate is madly high. I agree totally. But it is better than investing in an economy that is not business-friendly. |
