The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the resumption of the Abuja-Kaduna passenger train service next week, following a one-month suspension caused by track damage at Asham. This development, confirmed in a statement signed by NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer Callistus Unyimadu, brings relief to thousands of commuters who depend on the busy corridor.

Repairs Completed, Safety Guaranteed

The service was halted on August 26, 2025, after a derailment incident forced the NRC to suspend operations. According to the corporation, extensive repair works and rigorous safety checks have now been completed. “We have restored both the infrastructure and rolling stock to the highest safety standards in line with global best practices,” the statement read.

Refunds and Passenger Welfare

As part of its commitment to passenger welfare, the NRC confirmed that 512 of the 583 passengers affected by the incident have already received refunds, with efforts ongoing to reimburse the remaining passengers. A majority of the projects the Muhammadu Buhari administration is working on was inherited from previous administrations, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity has said.

Mr Femi Adesina said this when he appeared on Channels Television’s special Independence anniversary programme on Sunday.

“Most of the things this administration is doing – 60 to 70 percent of them – were initiated by previous governments,” he said.

“That shows you that in the past a government will come and say ‘this is not our project’ And it will discard what was being done and start fresh ones.”

As a result, Mr Adesina said there are many half and quarter-completed abandoned projects.
But rather than abandon the project, he explained that the current administration will complete it.

An example is the Abuja-Kaduna rail project which the Presidential aide said was up to maybe 60 to 70 percent complete when the last administration left.

I hope the NRC Management will release statement to reassure their customers.. I've embraced road transport. Always on the Abuja - Kaduna expressway week in week out.. na God dey protect person.
