Microsoft Disables Israeli Military Services After Guardian Investigation

Microsoft has announced the suspension of specific cloud and AI services used by an Israeli military unit after preliminary findings supported a Guardian investigation that uncovered mass surveillance of Palestinian phone calls. The move has been widely welcomed by pro-Palestinian groups.

Background to the Investigation

In August, a joint probe by the Guardian, +972 Magazine, and Local Call revealed that Israel’s Ministry of Defense (IMOD) used Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform to store recordings of countless calls made by Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. The report described it as a form of mass civilian surveillance.

Following the revelations, Microsoft launched an internal review. Company President Brad Smith confirmed on Thursday that the findings supported the investigation’s claims. “We do not provide technology to facilitate mass surveillance of civilians,” Smith said in a blog post.

What Microsoft Disabled

The company said it has disabled specific IMOD subscriptions, including Azure cloud storage hosted in the Netherlands and certain AI-powered services. However, it clarified that its cybersecurity offerings to Israel and other Middle Eastern states remain unaffected.

A spokesperson for the Israeli Ministry of Defense declined comment on the announcement. Previously, Israeli military officials insisted their cooperation with firms like Microsoft operated under “legally supervised agreements.”

Reaction from Rights Groups and Workers

Pro-Palestinian groups such as the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the activist network No Azure for Apartheid hailed the decision. “This is a point of vindication for those brave tech workers who stood up and protested,” said Imraan Siddiqi, CAIR’s Washington chapter director.

Microsoft has faced internal unrest, with worker-led protests demanding an end to its contracts with Israel. Some employees were fired earlier this year for joining sit-ins at company offices, including at Brad Smith’s office in Redmond. Microsoft said the terminations followed policy breaches and safety concerns.

Wider Implications

The development comes as global outrage grows over Israel’s two-year-long military campaign in Gaza, which rights experts, scholars, and a UN inquiry have described as possible genocide. The war has killed tens of thousands and displaced the entire Gazan population internally.

In the eyes of these satanists, a media House indicted IDF and Isreal, so they acted. Does hamas have uniform they use to differentiate themsemves from civillians? No.
Do they blend on purpose with civillians? Yes.
Do hamas militants dress and act like civillians? Yes.

I thought they first denied any involvement in IDF genocide.... After much internal and external pressure they've finally given heed to reason but I feel it's a little too late.
Microsoft is complacent in Israel genocide campaign

China has been using this technology to spy on their citizens for many years including facial recognition technology that's why they have very low crime rate and low terrorist activities.

Now I understand why Trump is limiting American firms from employing foreigners in sensitive technology industries. These workers can sabotage any US foreign policy that does not align with their ideology.

The whole world has finally waken up from their slumber and the momentum is getting stronger by the day. The war criminal Netayanhu is feeling the heat already. Just yesterday, the baby-killer apologized to the Emir of Qatar during a conference call with Trump. Even Trump himself made it very clear on Saturday that he will never allow Netayanhu to annex the West Bank, "that enough is enough." And most importantly enough, all eyes is currently on the global Sumud flotilla of 45 ships currently sailing towards Gaza to force Netayanhu to break the lsreali naval blockade on Gaza, led by swedish activist Greta Thunberg herself. So let's watch and see if Netayanhu will either arrest or kill the most influential and powerful young person in the world and her 532 member squad from 48 different countries. We mustn't allow this Genocide to continue! History will judge us all! The most recent and horrible ones that happened in Biafra and Rwanda are still very fresh in our memories!

They were reaping massively from the profits. They provided the software that Isreal and US used to commit genocide in Gaza.

Almost 100% of the companies giving resources for the genocide in Gaza are American companies. I agree with the Colombian President that Trump and US are complicit in the genocide in Gaza and should face international criminal Court of Justice for committing genocide in Gaza.

They must be prosecuted and held to account including freezing of their assets.

Amazon, Google too profited from the Genocide, not only Microsoft. It's the sustained pressure on Microsoft that forced them to give this cosmetic concession which was clearly to enable the genocide to continue on another platform that is compliant with their technology.

Caterpillar has been giving them the heavy duty machines used for destroying homes in West Bank and Gaza.

Really?
I am surprised that Microsoft can do that.

That's why it's not good to write off somethings entirely. Always thought that the company had this anti humanity agenda.

These your kind of views never believed that US would be defeated when it was supporting apartheid in South Africa even when the rest of the world opposed it.

There will be Gaza Genocide Complicit Organizations, Governments and Institutions ( GGCOGI) Criminal prosecution someday to prosecute all those who profited from Gaza genocide and those who provided the resources and/or who should have done something to prevent it but failed to do it. It happened with Yugoslavia bloodbath.

Like Milosevic, Netanyahu and Trump will not go down alone in the black book of reckoning on Gaza genocide.
