65 Years Old Countries - After Independence by DrMB(op): 12:29pm On Oct 01, 2025
In 1960, a historic wave of decolonization swept the continent, resulting in 17 African nations (and Cyprus) declaring their sovereignty, an unprecedented political transformation that reshaped the global map.
Given that 1960 saw 17 African nations gain independence, what were some of the main geopolitical factors (e.g., global events, colonial power status) that accelerated this massive wave of decolonization?
What is the historical nickname given to the year 1960 due to the large number of African nations gaining independence?

Completely agreed with your insertion. Most African countries colonised either by Britain or France 🇫🇷 remain underdeveloped till date.
Something is really wrong with us as a nation

Islamic terrorism is worse in Nigeria.
Islamic terrorism in Nigeria has denied Nigeria tourism money.
Some countries live from tourism money alone, not only on cash from crude oil and gas deposits.

There are no basis for comparison. We are on the right pedestal and Nigeria will be great. Comparing is just like a wife Comparing his husband with another married man, the is bound to fail. And for your information, Nigeria is far better than those other countries

Re: 65 Years Old Countries - After Independence by AWODIORA: 10:21am On Oct 02, 2025
Why are we only comparing with African nations, while no with Indonesia, Malaysia & maybe Cyprus. Justifying hardship just to make your pay masters happy is the real problem of Nigeria. LAPTOP BOYS DESIST FOR THE FUTURE OF YOUR CHILDREN.

Nigeria is blessed with petroleum, its one of the largest producer of oil in Africa. So why is it lacking behind in terms of real development cheesy

Imagine comparing themselves with countries you have more human and natural resources than. countries whom shortly after independence were running to Nigeria for succour and we were they big brothers and naira was running head to head with pounds and dollars. Our economy was thriving left for the period of military governance, only for APC government to come and ruin everything Nigeria ever worked for and set us some hundred years back.

All of them are struggling and have little to nothing to show for their 65 years of independence and self-rule, what a shame cry cry

Some like Nigeria, Somali and DR Congo have even become worst than they were 65 years ago under European colonial masters.

Black Africans really need to sit down and have a reflection on their lives and why they are the joke of the rest of other races on earth, its really shameful and disheartening angry angry

Where is South Korea, Singapore and the likes? Why the need for comparing yourselves with the worst. What happened to the best? I guess that's why the country is what it is.

What part of under the bed did you wake up from this morning?
You're better off than countries that use CFA as currency?
By what parameters?
What's your debt profile in and out of this country compared to the rest?
What's your corruption index profile as against theirs?
When you've succeeded in educating yourself with the answers to these, go warm eba and eat.

It's deliberate from our colonial masters to be trapped in the circle of problems we are facing for their own benefit.

We should be competing with developed countries by now if not for useless/corrupt so-called leaders......We got the resources to achieve it.
