Ifetech81:Why limit yourself to just Personal Support Worker or Healthcare Assistant? You could consider a two-year nursing program, such as an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or a Post-Diploma BScN program. Dream big — don’t limit yourself. But hey, what do I know, right? However, if you’re planning to go for a one-year program, keep in mind that it only gives you a one-year PGWP. That’s usually not enough time to work, plan, and strategize your pathway to PR. Anyone who thinks they can use a one-year program to get PR will be disappointed when they arrive — unless your CRS score is already around 500 without Canadian schooling or work experience. Otherwise, please don’t go for a one-year program; you won’t have enough time. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/mandate/policies-operational-instructions-agreements/ministerial-instructions/express-entry-rounds.html Take a look at all the CEC and healthcare draws — you need to be in the 500s to even be considered for selection. School is one thing, but before coming to Canada, think about life after school. Don’t be like Badadvisor, who only started thinking about life after school when he came for a one-year program. Now frustration has taken over him because he realizes that the only way to get his PR might be to marry his 180 kg white girlfriend.

samclnt:Sorry educate me more why are you getting a GIC and from where ? |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by samclnt(m): 3:24pm On Oct 06, 2025 |
From CIBC. As a proof of fund for living expenses and part of tuition fee. I thought GIC can also be used as POF instead of SOA just like Fix Deposit? amnotapervert: |

Ochw:I do not know your current skills and qulification and I do not know your long term plan so I can not tell |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by amnotapervert(m): 4:10pm On Oct 06, 2025 |
samclnt:Wait, are you currently in Canada? Let me get this right — you plan to send your money from Nigeria to CIBC to open a GIC, and then use that GIC account during your proof of funds (POF)? |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by samclnt(m): 12:17am On Oct 07, 2025 |
amnotapervert:My partner is in US (different race), we not legally married yet which I believe will be tough for her to stand as my sponsor, and she do travel to Canada for official purpose. So we planned on investing the money in CIBC for my living expenses and part of my tuition fee as I will be paying the initial deposit from here. |

samclnt:Well, IMO this is how IRCC will see it — they’ll be wondering why you have a GIC account in Canada. You would have to explain that your girlfriend helped you open a CIBC account to deposit your money and invest in a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC). Now, how do you think that will look? Anyway, do what you feel is best, but in my opinion, that doesn’t sound like something that would work. A GIC is a bad idea for Proof of Funds (POF) because IRCC wants to see liquid cash readily available in your account. If you have, say, $60,000 in cash and another $35,000 in a GIC — and maybe a family member helped open that account under your name — that could make sense. I know many Indian students use third-party agents https://finnest.in/blog/what-is-a-gic-account-a-complete-guide-for-indian-students-applying-for-a-canada-student-visa/ to open GIC accounts and deposit their living expenses (a minimum of CAD $22,895 for a single international student’s one-year living costs). But in their case, it’s clearly for living expenses, while tuition fees are usually kept in a savings account after paying the initial deposit. Anyway, I’m not sure why you specifically want to use a GIC, since you haven’t given the full reason. But IMO, it doesn’t look like a good idea if you’re applying from Nigeria. and remember you have a 82% rejection rate and 18% acceptance rate applying as a nigerian https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/transparency/committees/cimm-feb-28-2024/intake-output-issued.html If you were already in Canada as a student and just wanted to save your money, then yes — a GIC would be a good idea. But if you’re in Nigeria and your girlfriend helped you open it, it just doesn’t look right, to be honest. But hey, what do I know? Just sharing my opinion.

Hi everyone, I applied to the University of Niagara Falls and received an offer of admission for the January 2026 intake. However, while awaiting my PAL, the school contacted my agent, advising that I defer my admission to April 2026 due to the current unavailability of the PAL. Do you think it’s advisable to pay the $5,000 deposit and defer my admission to the April 2026 intake? Has anyone had this experience with UNFC |

Can anyone put me through on how to go about doing my prerequisites for the accelerated Nursing Program in Canada, as I am currently still in Nigeria? I studied forestry and wildlife (gained admission through IJMB) at one of the reputable universities in Nigeria. |

metaverse2:Congrats! You did great for your son. What is the plan after he starts the program? I don't know much about the program (BSc Digital Media). Have you looked into the career prospects? Schools establish numerous programs to remain relevant and attract tuition money, but some are overhyped, rebranded, or have limited career prospects. I encourage you to research the career prospects of the program you selected and consider switching to another within the school if necessary. You may also want to consider this after he starts, particularly if it does not align 100% with his interests. |
