This is historically misleading. Do NOT demonize the British-born Kemi Adeosun over that exemption certificate episode. She started NOTHING related to forgery. The post is a bit long but when you read it you will realize that she was NEVER involved directly in the NYSC exemption certificate situation. It was the NYSC staff who irresponsibly forged that exemption certificate instead of procuring the ORIGINAL signed exemption certificate containing the right serial numbers. This is why a lot of Diasporan Nigerians have fallen victim to scammers who issued non-genuine documents in the Immigration passport offices or while applying for driver's licenses in the past.

Second, 'Kemi Adeosun was a full-blooded British citizen in in the interview I read about her when she was the Ogun State Commissioner of Finance back in the early 2010s, she CLEARLY stated that the FIRST time she ever flew into Nigeria on holidays was at the age of just 18 years. Then she flew back to England, graduated from a top British University and worked with Arthur Anderson for more than 10 years in a senior position. So Kemi had NO need for any NYSC program because she was a FULL British citizen and had only been to Nigeria once at 18 years on holidays with her family. She was NEVER a Nigerian citizen or passport holder hence violated NO NYSC laws like some uninformed posters who rushed to heavily demonize her online were saying because they don't know her very well. Kemi also said in that published Saturday Punch interview that she NEVER knew she would eventually come to live in Nigeria due to her marriage to Mr Adeosun her husband. So, after 10 years of marriage, and in order to protect her marriage, she had to leave England and come live with her husband in Nigeria and her consulting firm employer "Arthur Anderson" in England didn't want her to resign because of her outstanding performance. It was on arrival in Nigeria to join her husband, Mr. Adeosun (who owned a business and worked in Nigeria but had to fly regularly to England to see his nuclear family) that the British-accented Kemi Adeosun was introduced by a top female business leader and former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria or I CAN (Mrs. Olakunrin) to former Governor Ibikunle Amosunc who then drafted the academically brilliant Kemi into government as his Ogun State Commissioner for Budget and Finance and she said she was indeed the first to introduce the "treasury single account" or TSA at the State level which was then implemented when she became a Minister. It was in the course of this that someone suggested that she request for the so-called NYSC exemption certificate just for the formality of having it for any future job opportunity. In reality, Kemi INFACT had NO need for because she was NEVER a Nigerian citizen or passport holder but a British born and her family house is still in England right from the early 1960s when her father and mother migrated to England for further studies. Both of her parents hailed from Ijebu Waterside of Ogun State hence the reason Ibikunle Amosun made her his Commissioner for Budget and Finance.

'Kemi Adeosun did NOT deliberately forge any NYSC exemption certificate. It was the NYSC officials who issued it to her go between. This is why Diasporans have to be careful when applying for official document in Nigeria such as drivers licenses, the NYSC exemption certificate and more so that you are NOT given forged documentation.

What saved Kemi Adeosun's image is that NYSC DG indeed acknowledged that she officially applied for the exemption certificate BUT the officials who handled the process gave her a document that wasn't original. Till date, I haven't heard that those unscrupulous NYSC officials have been tracked and arrested for prosecution for putting that woman into a state of embarrassment. She had to voluntarily resign her appointment because that's the way things are done officially in her country of birth where till date her family house exists.

I hope this clarifies issues about 'Kemi Adeosun's innocence.

First off, I had to make that historical correction because in my 20 years of being a veteran member of this discussion forum with my other older moniker, I noticed that you are one of the sensible posters on this Website so this is why I chose to engage you here for the records.

Second, I totally agree with what you posted right ABOVE and already answered the succinct question you asked while affirming that Kemi unintentionally submitted a forged NYSC exemption document BUT it wasn't her who did it but the unscrupulous NYSC officials as confirmed by the then NYSC DG when the case was investigated.

This is the reason why Kemi Adeosun was NEVER prosecuted in any Nigerian court after due diligence had been done by the then NYSC Director General when that case broke to show that she indeed formerly applied for the NYSC exemption certificate in her application form in the official NYSC file in their office.

Kemi Adeosun would have been allowed by the former President Buhari to stay on as a Minister because she NEVER had any forged academic documents from her elementary school to her post-graduate years, BUT she honorably chose to RESIGN her Ministerial appointment and headed back to England. I was even pissed off at that time that she didn't press charges. Her British-born immediate OLDER brother is a infact a respected legal luminary married to a woman from Enugu State and one of Kemi's uncles is the iconic jazz musician and founder of Jazzhole 38 on Ikoyi Island, 'Tunde Kuboye who married Fran Kuboye (Fela Anikulapo-Kuti's niece and daughter of his older sister), so Kemi comes from a family lineage that respects the law and legal procedures.
