As an American yes you might make less money in Germany than you do back in the US(depending on your job). But the wealth is more evenly distributed and things are cheaper here.

Even with my dollar that is weaker than euro, I still get more bang for my buck as far as quality groceries and household goods are concerned.

The cut throat workaholic and highly productive culture of the USA provides the money for Europeans, Canadians, Australians and NZ to get "free" healthcare and long vacations and other welfare goodies.

You're correct, without USA military defense the Soviet Union or Russia would have taken the whole Continent decades ago, they wouldn't even have countries talk less of healthcare.
