Osemigho:Really? Digital media is everything including what we are doing now. From internet engineering to graphics to animations to content creations to the concepts behind Netflix, youtube. Users interface, film, video production. He can even be designing video games. I dont think everything should be about looking for jobs, it is a field where you can gain valuable skills like Graphics design while in school and starts earning . However, with Al advancing faster than our brain can grasp, no one knows what tomorrow would look like. |

metaverse2:Hi, Congratulations on your son’s successful application. Can you please tell me what form of POF you presented? Looking to apply for my sister with a $100k bank draft from Canada as the sponsor. The last friend I know that used a bank draft was unsuccessful. Can you please give me details on POF and home ties that you used? |

Study Visa Approved after about four applications. #1 - 3 or 4 Applications, lost count (2018-2019): All denied due to insufficient funds. Different proofs of funds are submitted, including self-sponsorship using a bank account and fixed deposits (from major banks and Microfinance Institutions), employer-sponsored, etc. None was sponsored by a sibling in Canada, unlike the 4th application below, because the sibling was in school and couldn't do it at that time. Latest Application (4th or 5th)- submitted 08 August 2025 (17 Sept PPR) - Sponsored by younger sibling in Canada (citizen) Sponsor Documents submitted Letter of Sponsorship Affidavit of Sponsorship Full first-year Tuition Receipt Payment by Sponsor Sponsor Identity documents Sponsor's employment documents (Letter and payslips, annual income about 8x first year tuition) Sponsor’s four month Bank Statements (Savings about 5x first year tuition, after paying first year tution) Applicant four month MyBankStatement and statement of account showing past support from sponsor and about 9 million naira balance. Sponsor and Applicant birth certificates showing they have the same parents Recent and old pictures of the sponsor and applicant together and with others Other Documents Letter of explanation Certificates NIN Applicant letter of support from applicant's employer Applicant's spouse's pay slips and a letter of employment to show that the spouse can take care of the children while the applicant is studying in Canada. Note Admission: 2-year diploma No previous travel experience No previous degree, just a post-secondary certificate and a professional diploma Age- 41 years and married with three kids The sponsor paid the full tuition to demonstrate commitment and wrote a support letter committing to accommodating the applicant and providing all necessary financial support for the applicant to study in Canada and return to Nigeria. Lots of prayers. |

metaverse2:I really don't know much about the industry, but your message suggests you have done your research. I always encourage students to conduct their own research and not rely solely on school advertisements, as investing in tuition is prohibitively high for international students, particularly for a four-year program. Schools are a business in Canada, which is why they are quick to shut down programs with low enrollment rates and start new, high-profile ones. Every school probably has an AI program now, or is turning its software development programs into it, unlike before the advent of ChatGPT. School is an investment, particularly with the high international student fee. Therefore, good research ensures a high return on investment, although it is not guaranteed. |

Please if I want to do WES evaluation for the purpose of express entry pool.. Which category will I chose between education or ECA immigration.. Or can I use the category under education to still apply for the express entry? |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by Osemigho: 1:22pm On Oct 09, 2025 |
mcsugk:Do not use education evaluation for Express Entry (EE). I recently met an applicant whose ITA submission was returned for this reason, resulting in the loss of both an EE provincial nomination and the ITA together. Please use only immigration for EE, and join the EE group on Nairaland (this one is for students). It is tough to get an ITA and provincial nomination these days. Losing one will hurt. |

How do you guys cope with Indians in class? Feels so frustrating. 18 of us in class, only me Nigerian, 17 Indians. These people don't speak any english, and they only communicate in their language. I feel so lost! Waste of 20k honestly |

Essential01:I understand what you described can be a little isolating, but be wary of what you wish for. The indian community in Canada is far united than any other and supports one another. That is why you see them at school and work together and freely speaking their language. Due to their massive network and support system in Canada, you would likely get more job opportunities (hustle and professional) with them than in other communities, in some cases. They also share tips and tricks easily within their community, unlike others. My first job in Canada was through a referral from an indian roommate. The Nigerian community is often for flex (parties, church, and other activities) with rare career support. As bad as that may sound to some, you need the Nigerian community to keep sane in a demanding and socially isolating country like Canada. Every community has its role in your life. Observe and learn from them. Do not despise any of them. |

Hi everyone, I applied to the University of Niagara Falls and received an offer of admission for the January 2026 intake. However, while awaiting my PAL, the school contacted my agent, advising that I defer my admission to April 2026 due to the current unavailability of the PAL. Do you think it's advisable to pay the $5,000 deposit and defer my admission to the April 2026 intake? Has anyone had this experience with UNFC |

Essential01:Have you heard or experienced the popular "Canadian smile" in Canada? Someone might decide not to interact with you, even if you understand their language, and that still wouldn't help with the isolation. If you get close to a minority group in Canada (Indians or any other community, including other Nigerian tribes in Canada), they will start speaking English a little bit more when you are around, to make you feel comfortable. They may or may not know you're uncomfortable with it, but it is not really their concern if there is no interaction between you. They would not speak their language to you when they have to interact with you directly on classwork or an assignment. Imagine 90% of the class are Nigerians, and an Indian student enrolls and asks everyone to speak English every time, without wanting to interact with you and other Nigerians. I am sure you or others would say "he be like this one dey mad". They (your classmate- the indians) will continue speaking their language if you choose not to interact with them. It is their mother tongue or official language, and that is the commonality in their group. Their language is the best way to interact, easily establish new friends in their community, and reconnect with their homeland. They also use it to share secret tricks and tips of the system. They would only share it with you in English if you build a relationship and trust with them. Trust me, there are many tips and tricks of the system, and you will need to know them, but you shouldn't use all of them because some are outright illegal. Interact with them(Indians) on anything (schoolwork, sport, etc). Tell them you've heard about their food and want to try it with them. Chicken Biryani and Goat Curry with rice are a good start and are similar to popular Nigerian dishes. Over time, you will begin to see the change you desire if you interact with them. I know it is not easy, but I encourage you to try. All the best! |

Ndum005b:No experience with UNFC. However, aside from the PAL issue you raised, January is too close, except you already secured strong funding (direct from family, built for months (at least four months), substantial and with evidence of sources). You need time to plan the visa application. As Nigerians, we often like to rush things like this despite the likely low funding potential (i.e, not every family has 50m+ naira hanging around for nothing). I understand the country's social and economic challenges that may warrant the urgency to leave, but poor funding is a primary reason for our high rejection rate. In fact, the visa officers probably anticipate poor financing due to the well-known social and economic challenges. So, inadequate funding is an easy reason for rejecting a Nigerian applicant if the applicant shows any sign of it. Key funding things they would look out for probably include: 1. The connection of the applicant and sponsor: Direct family, personal, parent, spouse or siblings, preferably but not limited to this. Evidence includes birth certificates, marriage certificates, and pictures. Funding or Scholarships from a well-known organization will also fly, e.g. Mastercard Foundation, Canadian University, government funding body (avoid Nigeria if possible because they have a notable history of not releasing funds or releasing them too late), etc. 2. Sufficiency of funds: Accumulated for months (at least four months). Excellent opening, minimum, and closing balance over the months (The gap between opening and closing balance should not be ridiculous (e.g 5m open to 100m Close)), minimum balance should not be too low throughout the duration of the account (e.g. 40m open dropped to 5 or 10m, but closed with 100m). All funds should be justifiable with evidence of sources (employment letter(s) and payslips), sufficient to cover the duration of the program, and leave more for other obligations of the sponsor. Closing balance should be at least 1.5 or 2x the cost of the program. Some say to consider only the first year, but I prefer the total cost of the program (tuition and living expenses). 3. Connection to the fund: Sponsor's personal account preferred over their company. Company owners can receive payment in their personal account (though the upcoming Nigerian tax law may discourage this) or pay themselves a salary and bonuses from the company account, attaching a CAC document, payslip, or receipt. Deferral might be a better option to give you time to prepare a solid application. I always encourage people to plan for the process (admission to arrival) to take up to a year, unless you come from a wealthy home with secured funding. All the best. |

I have successfully processed a couple of applications where the applicants used their crypto balance/wallet as part POF. My take is that it should be treated like a bank account. If there are lumpsums, provide convincing explanations. Racheal45: |

Let your sponsor pay full tuition fee for the first year of the program and set up a GIC of at least CAD 22,000 to cover your living expenses for a year. That gives you a better chance of success than presentinga bank draft. Glock22: |
