Political statement just to get igbo support in the election. We all know if Atiku is the president today, he wouldn't think of releasing Nnamdi Kanu till he concludes his term of government. But again, our igbo brothers could be easily deceived by this statement and start to hail Atiku

I watched and listened to when he was saying that they should burn down things,kill some people and so on.
That man is even dangerous to some of the prominent people of his tribe because I heard what he had said against a lot of them including Obi.

We can't argue if he can or cannot since he is not in the position to do so. You argued that he said what he said for politics. My argument became what is stopping Tinubu for releasing him for politics too.
The right thing must be done.

Atiku was vice president of Nigeria when Obasanjo his boss captured Uwazurike (The Nnamdi Kanu equivalent of those times) and detained him without trial but Atiku never one day kicked against Obasanjo for that. The only time when Atiku found it justified to fight Obasanjo his boss was when Obasanjo's posturing was threatening his ambition to become president.

In the overall interest of peace, unity and national cohesion, I’m calling for the immediate and conditional release of Nnamdi Kanu. The only condition being the complete renunciation of all kinds of violent agitation for Biafra.

When Tinubu was sworn in, he inherited some political prisoners like Kanu, Sowore, Igboho etc. while Sowore and Igboho are now free, Kanu is still in detention.
