Oseni Rufai Highlights "Grey Areas" In New INEC Chairman's CV by BlackViper(op): 3:08pm On Oct 11, 2025
There are a lot of grey areas in this Prof Joash Ojo Amupitan's CV as put forward in the Statehouse Press Release signed by Mr Bayo Onanuga.
Let me speak to just a few of them for now:
1. He was born in 1967. There's no problem in that.
2. 'After completing primary and secondary education', he attended Kwara state Polytechnic... from 1982 to 1984.
Note: we are neither told the names of the primary and secondary schools he attended, nor the time lines of his attendance.
Moreover, by 1982 when he was said to have attended the Kwara state Polytechnic; he was just 15. How did he do it back then? Maybe if we have the details of his primary and secondary schools attendance, we would have better understanding. Additionally, what did he study at the Polytechnic?
3. He attended University of Jos 1984-1987 to study law.
How did he get a law degree in Nigeria within 3 years? Law is 5 years.
4. He got his PhD in 2007.
But he became the Head (of Department) of Public Law 2006-2008, and Dean of the Law Faculty 2008-2014. That means that he became the Head of Department before earning his PhD, and the Dean of faculty one year after his PhD. How did these happen in a federal university, not even in a mushroom private university?
I have a fair understanding of the academic. Such things don't happen. I believe the people who packaged this CV owe us more explanation of the missing links in the CV.

Nothing new! A govt of certificate forgers is in place in Nigeria today. Perhaps another fraud or criminality is about to be unearthed. An apple does not always fall far from its own tree 🌲

Matters related to certificate forgery are not trivial and constitute serious criminal offences. Meaningful development cannot happen in a society where forging academic credentials becomes the norm.

Re: Oseni Rufai Highlights "Grey Areas" In New INEC Chairman's CV by sholatech(m): 4:02pm On Oct 11, 2025
There is nothing wrong in his academic positions and certificates if you schooled like us in the 80s /early 90s in Northern Federal Universities. Many HODs were not PhD holders. Likewise, Law initially was not a 5 years course. And IJMB A-level was common for entering 200 Level in federal universities while Southern Universities only to Jamb to enter 100 level.

He can be a HOD without PhD. During my university days, I had a lecturer that was sub dean of the faculty of Engineering without PhD even

The so called observations actually put to question Rufai Oseni’s university education. There is no person who passed through a public university in Nigeria who won’t know one or two persons who served as HoD of a department without a PhD.

Again, he said law is five years. That’s another very ignorant statement. Law used to be four years till it was changed to five years in the early 90’s. So if you have been to a polytechnic, you cross over straight to 200 and spend three years. It’s the same thing with Direct Entry student of today crossing over to 200 level. So, what’s the big deal in spending three years for his law degree?

He also said we don’t know his primary and secondary schools. That’s extremely silly because Bayo Onanuga only released an highlight of his CV for the press release announcing his appointment. Go and ask the man directly for his comprehensive CV or do your investigative findings about him.

CHAIRMAN OF INEC:PROF JOASH OJO AMUPITAN,SAN!!!
*My knowledge of Prof Joash Amupitan, SAN from primary school to university*

1. Joash is my (Kenway DAVIDSON, FCA) childhood friend from the same home town...... and we remain bossom friends till date.

2. We attended the same primary school and was in the same class all thru @ LEA 2, Aiyetoro Gbede (there was an LEA 1 school in another location in our town) commencing in 1973.

3. Let me quickly chip it in that our late fathers were both teachers turned to headmasters, but his father subsequently switched to Judiciary and became a local Judge.... His mum was also a teacher then, both of blessed memories and my father too.

4. Joash, an exceptionally brilliant pupil like me (with all modesty) left for St Barnabas Secondary, Kabba Town from primary 5 in 1977, but my own dad maintained that I must complete my primary 6 despite the fact that I brilliantly passed my common entrance then. Thus, I concluded my primary 6 in 1978 before proceeding to GSS, Ilorin.

5. In other words, Joash entered secondary school @ age 10....., so is this a big deal for a brilliant soul and whose parents were educationists who were highly revered in those days.

6. He subsequently gained admission into School of Basic Studies, of then Kwara State College of Technology, Ilorin in 1982 for his A Levels (Studying for GCE and IJMB) which he completed in 1984. However, I was equally @ Kwara Tech (as it was called then) but a year after him from 1983 - 1985.

7. Note that the one year advantage he gained over me for his movement from primary 5 to secondary then subsisted till we both graduated.

8. Meanwhile, in 1984, Prof Amupitan was admitted to Unijos to study law and graduated in 1987 (@ 20 years of age) while I was admitted into ABU Zaria in 1985 to study Accounting, finishing in 1988.

9. At his graduation in 1987, Joash carted away all the prizes in his Faculty..... To the glory of God, I also won prizes during my graduation in 1988.

10. Let me also give a vital information. His immediate younger sister, Toyin Ayeni (nee Amupitan) was my classmate all through Kwara Tech to ABU Accounting class where we both graduated in 1988. She was very young then aged 19 years..... Toyin was to my best of knowledge the youngest in our set then. She recently retired as Director of Finance, ICPC.

11. The forgoing is much I sincerely know about Joash's education sojourn from primary school to university.

12. The rest as they say, is history.

If Rufai Oseni actually posted this, I doubt he went to a university.
5 years law started around 1995. Prior to 1995 it was 4 years. Those that came in with direct entry then did 3 years in law.
The other point is the issue of HOD. I spent 4 years in the university. I had 2 heads during these two years. None had their Phd.
If Rufai posted this, he better go and delete it because it has shown he does not know anything.

For posing what he posted, it is time to ask Rufai to present his university certificate. His education is now a question mark
