Almost anything land project is by sq/meter so what is the fuss about giving the price of the coaster road project per kilometers?

So and so was budget per km at naira to dollar but presently due to exchange rate it has drop or rise to XYZ is that too difficult to answer.

Money spent so far on work done is apt question, both from the engineering perspective and the citizens paying, and necessitates an average cost according to the latest evaluation of work done.

Do you feel senseless for asking how much expenditure has gone into executing any project you contract service men to do in your sphere as the paying client or project financier?

I hope you know that every cost incurred on that project is going to be tolled and paid eventually by everyday Nigerians, all citizens.


The senseless one is the public servant that missed the opportunity to answer the public he is serving the question appropriately and the citizen for whom the concept of accountability is alien or one who feels a public servant is above questioning.

I have a first degree in mechanical engineering and I am disappointed in what Makinde said.

A. over marshy areas and you have to sand fill,

B. over water and you have to build a bridge and

C. over hard soil and you simply lay your asphalt on it,

how do you get the average cost of such a project?

Infact, as the project progresses, there will be an average cost for the work done and one for the proposed budget or alterations. What are you talking about? You mean even with all the calculus you ought to have learnt a statistical and math fundamental concept such as average is what is evasive as this? So are you saying you couldn't track if you were going to run out of budget or within as the project progressed? It is just betraying irresponsibility if you asked me.

But at the end, we as engineers know he is dodging the question.

I validate what you have said.

As a civil servant, he should have simply said, "So far, this is how much we have spent".

But he can't use that amount to appropriately explain the cost per km.

It's different projects muddled together.

It's sand filling, bridge work, cement work etc. You can't find an average of all of that together.

You can't be building a house and use the cost of when laying the foundation (which may be tiny) as average when you will still spend massively on the decking part when the time comes. You talk of average when the project is the same all through.

Oga, there is an estimated budget for that road, also some kilometers have been completed. Umahi can give us a cost per kilometer estimate, based areas completed

The truth is APC and Tinubu has been siphoning money through these projects; coastal Highway, Lagos airport refurbishing, Third Mainland bridge repair works. Sometimes you hear these figures and wonder if we are building new 10 more copy of those projects?

No matter how proficient you are in mathematics, you would know you can't find an average of 2x + 4y. Why? They have different variable quantities and therefore different entities.

If, and I say this with my full chest, if he has covered 1km and it happens to have a bridge, then the average cost would be gargantuan and ridiculous to anyone hearing it and would not be reflective of what the average cost of the project would be in the long run.

Asking what is the average cost per kilometer or estimste cost is like asking for a hint, we know he cant give Actual cost thats not feasible cos the project is stil ongoing

Average cost or estimate cost can be easily derived from relative project completed within time ...so what we are asking for is just an hint ..how much did it cost to do lagos coastal road 10km 20million we can say average cost per kilometer is 2 million just an idea not actual ...
