That is not true. In 2014 oil prices were below $100
nairalanda1:
Also 2014....oil prices were as high as 130 dollars per barrel

2025...oil prices were as low as 60 dollars per barrel

Lolz, all a game of numbers. Na you know who you dey chase.

$811 billion times 216 fx rate = 175 trillion naira.

$252 billion times 1470 fx rate = 370 trillion naira.
That's double.
Double in Naira, whose value has been wiped out by the clueless, corrupt and incompetent APC leaders looters, who promised change but delivered extreme poverty shege huh

World Bank offers Nigeria forex rate advice, as Tinubu eyes N200/Dollar rate

April 23, 2023

The President-elect said he would work with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to *bring down the exchange rate to N200 in his first term.*

“My administration will collaborate with the Central Bank to harmonize the fiscal and monetary policy to achieve immediate stabilization of the value of the naira against the US dollars and other currencies and in the short term, strengthen the naira by boosting the supply of foreign currency and moderating demand.

“The short-term goal is to achieve a naira/dollar rate of 300 naira/US$ and gradually achieve a less than 200 naira rate over the next four years, Tinubu stated.

Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has promised to ensure that the naira would be equal to the dollar in value if voted into office.

NAN reports that Buhari said this on Monday during the south-east presidential rally of the party at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

“It is sad that the value of the naira has dropped to more than N230 to one dollar. This does not speak well for the nation’s economy,” he said.

He urged the people to vote for APC, noting that he would ensure that corruption was tackled headlong if elected.

You borrow to build road, bridge and things that can't generate money to pay back the loan
Then print naira enter the forest market to buy dollar boom naira loses value

Rinse and repeat

When people complain say they play politics of hate
Reason is because of drop in crude price.

Everything started to crumble during Jonathan tenure in 2014.

Nigerian dollars started declining that same 2014 as Goodluck Jonathan plundering of foreign reserves was at it's peak and oil prices started crashing 📌💯

So the APC that came as the Messiah couldn't salvage the situation and yet you think you made sense right?

Just because the naira was devalued, doesn't mean the value of a building or property will come down. The value goes up in Naira terms but remains the same in dollar term. For example you bought a car for 500 dollars. If naira to dollar is devalued, the value of the car in dollar still remains the same. It's the value in naira that will change.

From April 2014, when oil prices crashed. The effects took time to be noted, which was why we were able to parade ourselves as world's best economie

By December 2014, borrowing to pay salaries was commencing.

See, when oil is high, life is good, when oil is low, life is bad (Replace oil with copper, tin, iron, cotton, etc...same story).

That's why I was not confident with the economic praise singing back then. We saw the same thing in the 1970's when the naira was at par with the dollar. Then after 1982, it all went to the trash.

If you want a decent economy with a strong currency, become a nation that sells manufactured goods and uses science as the basis of its economy...or in other words, innovation. Not sell oil and use the money to import and potray ourselves as world beater.

some people just like to propagate negativity. As at the time the figure for |Nigeria was calculated Naira was N1650 to $1, today it is n1450. projected GDP growth for next year is 4% so expect next year's GDP to be at least $300b. this is the flaw in calculating your GDp in a currency other than your own and why GDP PPP is a better reflection of the true state of an economy.

for all those who delight is spreading doom, understand one thing: Tinubu is your president till 2031 so the sooner you start to see good in your country the better.

Okay why did the value of the people earning power not go up

Why did the standard and quality of living continue to decline?
Why did the infrastructure continue to be poor. See The coordinating minister of economy could not continue to allow himself to be treated here, I am sure, He must have tasted a little dose of the poor quality of personal/unprofessionalism and poor health facilities,

the Nigerian political elites seemed to have agreed to run to APC for covering after looting our national resources, because they are not decamping based on any ideology or credible governance by the ruling APC government,
have you noticed the Nigeria's capital flights under this dispensation is quite alarming ?

It’s been said that a people get the kind of gov’t they deserve and work for! It’s on record those who enabled these urban bandits to seize/snatch power in 2015 and those who chose the less worse available option! Fast-forward to today, and the same enablers of these destroyers are triumphant as they gloat and accuse sane minds of ‘not knowing how to play ‘strategic and sophisticated’ politics’! What do you mean by infrastructure being poor! Was it rich before? Devaluation without a corresponding increase in earnings leads to inflation but that doesn't means the value of your property is reduced. A man that had a hundred grams of gold before devaluation still has the same weight in gold after devaluation.

I really hate quoting zommbiees but I'll do this just once.

Dollar of 2014 is not the same value as the dollar of 2024.

Naira of 2014 is not the same as naira of 2024.

Both currencies had more value on 2014 than in 2024. Do with this info what you will.
