Immatex:The emboldened statement in your post is wrong. The tax-free lump sum that is sometimes paid on retirement by private pension schemes is a form of gratuity. |

When we tell people that goverment tries a lot, they will say you are supporting evil. As poorly paid civil servants are, they are still better than many other organizations apart from banks, oil and gas firm and a couple of private companies. |

The number one reason why progress continue to elude the country is the people's hypocrisy and perchant for double standard. Same people supporting Dangote and his antics against pengassan are now condemning Oyedepo. What is the difference please? UN through ILO deem it fits that union must exist as a means for workers to get their rightful benefits from organisations but for reasons best known to my people, they prefer to side with their favourite oppressor, and complain about another oppressor |

Give us full story first before you look for opportunity to attack the church. What was the last salary? Is the person paying back any loans? Is this really gratuity? The cheque number already gave the person away and this will be investigated. |

Imagine if bishop oyedepo is the president of Nigeria I guess he will be worse than tinubu, freedom of speech by the citizens would have been subdued, as a clergy man he places curses on those that critized him on how he runs his church and school,I could remember when he said he is going to place a curse on whom so ever criticize him for trying to increase the fees they pay at convernant university. |

Tohsynetita1:By the image you posted: Gratuity = Last salary × (15 ÷ 26) × years worked. In this case, 102, 000 = A × (15 ÷ 26) × 14 (Where A is the last salary) A = 102, 000 ÷ [(15 ÷ 26) × 14] = N12, 750 My take? I doubt if the person could have been earning N12, 750 per month. I strongly suspect one of 2 things; 1. That the person has outstanding loans that has been deducted before this cheque was handed over. 2. The whole post may just be for generating online views. I stand to be corrected though. |

It depends on the staff salary but notwithstanding, it is impossible for someone to be collecting N8,500 as take home at this time and age. |

FreeStuffsNG:Your position on Pension and Gratuity is spot on but most people really don't know the difference. On the your Contributory Pension take, the most the man can have with (with what is given to him as Gratuity here) can't be more more #1m. What I think in this case is that, the man has some Personal Loans which in practice is usually deducted from whatever benefit an employee is entitled to while leaving the employment. |

[quote author=brain54 post=137143815]. His last salary was N4,857. Alright, let’s break this down properly. In Nigeria, the gratuity formula (for those under public service rules or many private setups) is usually: \text{Gratuity} = \text{Last Salary} \times \text{Number of Years Served} \times \text{Gratuity Factor} Where the gratuity factor depends on years of service: 5–9 years → 100% of last salary (factor = 1) 10–14 years → 150% of last salary (factor = 1.5) 15–19 years → 200% of last salary (factor = 2) 20–24 years → 250% of last salary (factor = 2.5) 25–29 years → 300% of last salary (factor = 3) 30–35 years → 400% of last salary (factor = 4) --- 👉 The worker in your case: Years served = 14 → factor = 1.5 Total gratuity paid = ₦102,000 So: 102,000 = \text{Last Salary} \times 14 \times 1.5 102,000 = \text{Last Salary} \times 21 \text{Last Salary} = \frac{102,000}{21} \text{Last Salary} = 4,857.14 \, (\text{≈ ₦4,857}) --- ✅ His last salary was about ₦4,857 |

Tohsynetita1:But they accepted the pay . Until you have ran a business successfully, do not be quick to talk ill of businesses . That school is a business though run by a church . They gave an offer and the workers accepted . That is a binding contract . As long as the employer keeps to the terms and the broader labour laws , they are fine . China is a manufacturing hub today because of the low labour wages . Every major company wants to establish their factories there . Lastly Nigerians are so quick to look at inflows and have zero clue about outflow. A company having an inflow of 10 billion naira yearly can go bankrupt in months . Why ? Because the outflow is more . Unless Covenant publishes their audit , noone can say for sure that the school can afford to pay more on salaries |

I no dey put mouth for religious affairs. But if this is true, then this is exploitation with a heavy dose of wickedness. I mean 100k in 2025? Even 100k salary self is not acceptable at all, much more gratuity? |

Whether true or not is this not why some of us are defending Union. If you speak against this thing while castigating PENGASSAN then something is truly terrible with you. |

Wolf in sheep's clothing The world is deep and so churches are deep One of the reasons I don't believe in Kirk. Imagine a pastor having no conscience towards his congregation. |

By my experience, the person may have collected some loans. CU will never allow their money to go. So the loans may have been deducted from the total gratuity |
