Whenever northerners threaten to kill in the name of Allah, they don't call for regulations? Divide this nation and let them go their way.

The Sultan is doing a great job in securing the country from possible violence that can break out due to social media abuse
Social media is the worst thing to happen to Islam.
If the Satan of Sokoto is worried about violence and division, he should be speaking against calculated unaliving of Christian communities in the North.

Any account linked to Nigeria via phone number, location etc must have the users NIN as part of his or her profile information (though not visible to the public).

So after that, let anyone who comes to post on social media do so with his full chest. No one is saying you shouldn't criticise. But criticise is different from insult.

No one is saying you shouldn't agitate for your community, clan or tribe, but that is not the same as propagating tribal hate.

Anonymity should be no excuse to come and circulate absolute falsehood.

May God bless the Sultan for speaking the truth
Social media regulation is not as inherently bad as we seem to perceive it, it is sometimes used to balance free speech with public safety and harmony, even in some advanced democracies, as stated below:

1. Germany – The Network Enforcement Act (NetzDG) requires social media platforms to remove hate speech and illegal content within 24 hours or face heavy fines.
2. France – The Avia Law (though partially overturned) aimed to curb online hate speech by forcing platforms to act quickly against harmful content.
3. United Kingdom – The Online Safety Act 2023 mandates tech companies to protect users from harmful content, especially children, with fines for non-compliance.
4. Australia – The Online Safety Act empowers regulators to demand removal of harmful content and penalizes platforms that fail to act.

SOCIAL MEDIA, THE SUPER HIGHWAY FOR THE VENTILATION OF IDEAS, NEWS, INFORMATION, revelations, AND DISCLOSURES, UNVEILS SKELETONS THAT MAY NEVER HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED. IT DEMANDS ACCOUNTABILITY AND RESPONSIBILITY, ESPECIALLY FROM LEADERS IN JURISDICTIONS WITH PHARAONIC REIGNS.

THE IMAGINARY EVILS PROPOUNDED FOR THE CALL FOR SOCIAL MEDIA REGULATION CAN BE RESOLVED BY THE EXISTING STATUTES IN NIGERIA. THE LAW OF DEFAMATION, AMONG MANY REDEMPTIVE LEGISLATIONS, IS AVAILABLE FOR THE LAW ENFORCEMENT AND PROSECUTION AGENCIES TO USE TO SECURE JUSTICE FOR ANYONE WHO CLAIMS INJURY! SO, WHAT CAN BE THE JUSTIFIABLE REASON TO REGULATE THE SOCIAL MEDIA SPACE EXCEPT FOR THE PRESERVATION AND PROTECTION OF CORRUPTION, IMPUNITY, AND THE SECRECY OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE POWERFUL CLIQUE THAT HAVE BEEN HOLDING NIGERIA BACKWARDS?

THE MODERN WORLD IS RACING ON THE HIGHWAY OF OPENNESS, TRANSPARENCY, AND FREEDOM FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF HUMAN VALUES AND UPGRADES OF THE ETHICS THAT GOVERN THE SOCIETY. I OBSTINATELY BELIEVE THAT NIGERIA WILL GET IT RIGHT AND BE A HAVEN OF PEACE AND PROSPERITY FOR ALL. THE GAPS THAT SOME BAD LEADERS ACROSS NIGERIA ARE TRYING TO KEEP AND WIDEN WILL SOON BE ABOLISHED BY DIVINE PROVIDENCE, TO EMERGE A COUNTRY THAT WILL BE THE PRIDE OF ALL TRIBES AND RELIGIONS. LET US NOT BE WEARY TO KEEP PRAYING FOR OUR DEAR AND POTENTIALLY BEAUTIFUL NIGERIA!

Abeg tell that to your fellow Muslims or northerners....I thought those in the North forbids social media so why cry for it to be banned.....instead tell them to block WhatsApp,, Facebook, twitter, etc in there phones.
If leaders in Nigeria have conscience n doing what is right, will there be any need to insult them? Do you see anyone abroad being insulted?
You are yet to advice the government on how to handle the menace your Fulani brothers are causing around the country, na social media be your problem....
Rubbish!

Mrchippychappy:
First the Sultan said Nigeria is heading towards violence, he made that claim so he can position himself as an advocate of peace, now he is calling for social media regulation.

The Truth is this,They are running scared now that the world is gradually becoming aware of the calculated genocide against Christians in Nigeria, the build up to 2027 would be lovely. 2026 we might very well experience a military intervention from the international community. I love this , like I said in my post yesterday, get your popcorns
Asides from that. The truth is we need to regulate social media in Nigeria, the way we are going with social media and the way it is used for hatred and bigotry, we will set thos country on fire.
Take a look at Nairaland for example the level of hatred and bigotry here is mind boggling.
