Look at it this way..
1. Body (outer part) that later becomes dust.
2. Soul is the middle part that makes your existence possible.
3. Spirit is the innermost part that links man with God and the divine order.

So you see spirit is embedded within the soul.. both spirit and soul are eternal but the body isn't. The body (flesh) came from dust and must return to dust.

Remember the saying.. God is a spirit and whoever will serve Him must do so in spirit. The spirit is that connection each and everyone of us have with God. He can program and reprogram us to do His will whenever He so wishes.
