There are, quite simply, knock-on effects of each and every factor which the country suffered from inception. Events, and life, do not occur in a vacuum, they occur in an existing causal chain.

Having said the foregoing, I want to be clear that I am not excusing everything, no they also have played a part in their own predicament as is most often the case in life. There are factors of bad policy and corruption as well.

But overall, I dont want anyone to imagine that Haiti had that fantastic head start by reason of its early independence. No. It remained in effective chains till the latter 20th century.

Neither do I think the comparison with Israel is apt, a nation which had the backing and support of the most powerful and wealthiest governments in the world - in contrast to Haiti which actually had their enmity and contempt.
