lbrichman2:No matter what we feel about okocha and I too have my reservations about him but he’s still our second top scorer in Afcon after Yekini. As a midfielder that’s massive and I think he will continue to have a shot in our best 11 ever until we see another midfielder overwhelming better. |

lbrichman2:Contrary to your take, Jay Jay Okocha was up there in talent and understanding with the likes of Xavi and Iniesta. Just that he did not play in the right system to bring the best out of him. This clip below, will give you an idea. As much as I prefer Mikel Obi's approach to the game, no denying Okocha is the greatest footballing talent to play for the Super Eagles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jGC9lQPHsA |

semid4lyfe:Hehehe. Na that backline dey cause wahala. Esp that RB part. Yobo ke? 😂 That is makeshift na. Musa Muhammad had potential to do exploits in that role but he fell off. He had the top talent to be the right side Marcelo with a better defending side. But.... Not suggesting him o. He didn't cook well on fire so.. So I'll put Ambrose cos of that Consistency over those years. |

Goke7:What i think about this is that the fact that no midfielder have tried to close down this record is one thing that makes him even more indispensable in that XI. The teams he faced those years in those AFCONs..... If e easy make dem do am. I think he's a victim of his own talent to many Nigerians that vexed that he dribbles too much and trophies no dey especially with the Dinho comparism. Plus our disappointment started at the peak of his Super Eagles days when many were depending on "senior man" to lift the team out of the underwhelming streak. His near goal freekick vs CIV made many conclude the hate and degrading, however not justified. Oro por sha. Till midfielder clear that afcon record.... |

TheGoodJoe:Wowww tremendous showing by Jay Jay. We talk about his mesmerizing dribbles and in this age we dismiss it as frivolous but his dribbling and ball retention was what made us control games. And then again, we don't talk much about his long passes. Kanu and Okocha were masters of the C - dribble. That skill is almost lost today. In this match, Jay Jay was a torn in the flesh of the Azurris. They escaped by the skin of their teeth. One can see the relief they felt when it ended. We lost due to inexperience. |

TheGoodJoe:Jay Jay Okocha will continue to make eagles all time XI in the next 100 years, only minus in his career was his club career, imagine such a talented player played for Bolton |

My Super eagles all time XI 1 Goalkeeper-Vincent Enyeama 2.Right back- Efe Ambrose: Defensively and offensively astute with a minimum to zero rate of gifting the opponents dangerous freekicks or penalties. 3.Left back- Ben Iroha: Injury prone but top notch in his performances barring France 98. 4.Center Back- Stephen Keshi 5.Center Back- Uche Okechukwu 6.Defensive Midfielder- Sunday Oliseh 7.Central Midfielder- John Mikel Obi 8.Attacking Midfielder- Austin Okocha 9.Right Wing Forward- Finidi George It's rare to see someone move from Sharks(or was it Iwuanyanwu Nationale)in Nigeria to Ajax and displacing a known Marc Overmars. All these on the basis of National team contribution/significance. 10.Center Forward- Victor Osimhen: Despite not winning AFCON yet but emerging from Serie A as your teams goleador. And replicating it a season later with another in Turkey yet consistent in European main competitions and effect in the National team makes me drop YEKINI for OSIMHEN. 11.Left Wing Forward- Emmanuel Amunike. If I didn't explain on certain people, to me they were and are still simply astounding to be compared |

Mujtahida:Yes Ola Aina and Victor Osimhen of this generation made my XI...ON Ola Aina I used his versatility on both wings to pick him over Austin Eguavoen,Efe Ambrose,Childi Odia, honestly i would have picked Childi Odia |

Cocony:Finidi George and Overmans used to start together, during 1995 Champions league runs,it was Finidi to the right Overmans to the left |

Kog45:I know their team. Correct me where I am wrong:Before the arrival of Finidi George, Marc Overmars was the Right attacking winger which was the point I made. Fact check videos of Ajax before Finidi came. |

daveP:Yekini's retirement was the beginning of that decline, as we had no striker who could fill his shoes. Now we have a striker, but we don't have a midfield. |

Kog45:I do not think it was Oliseh's inexperience because it would have shown in the group stages of USA 94. In retrospect the Azzuris led by Arrigo Sacchi did some chess moves on us and even with 10men crippled us. When Amuneke was injured and YEKINI somehow phagocytosed in that game reasoning was not to feature Oliha but bring in Ikpeba or Even an Ekoku to create more instability for the Italians. We rather opted for a defensive approach and if you remember that game yes Oliseh seemed like the culprit but twas really our dear Austin Eguavoen's wing that was exploited. |
| Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Goke7: 11:27am On Oct 24, 2025 |
Cocony:That Oliha substitution till today I don't really understand, as we had an Ikpeba on the bench, I think this was when everyone got fed up with Westerhof, as folks started suspecting foul play by the coach. But the Italians sha they quickly figured us out by injuring both Amokachi and Amunike. These are lessons we should take to heart when attending any World Cup. A solid plan B when our key players are out, because even in 2018, the French folks took Onazi out, and that's when we crumbled. |

Goke7:We lost that match due to what happened between Siasia and Oliseh during training. It was normal training bust up but Westerhoff didn't managed it very well....Siasia was dropped from starting XI and Westerhoff vowed not to use him in that match...after injury to Amunike and Amokachie, Westerhoff brought in Adepoju and Oliha, left Siasia on the bench. |

Kog45:Westerhof missed an opportunity to cover himself with glory with those silly errors, leaving out skillful players like Siasia and Ikpeba in such an important match. Those defence-splitting passes from Okocha would have been better utilised if we had both players on the pitch, who would have also assisted Yekini. What a waste of Human resources. |

Bought and read Sunday oliseh book. Audacity to refuse. Interesting read. Oliseh head butted sia sia after a lunge during a training session before the Italy game at USA 1994 World Cup . Behind the scenes stories of the national team are juicy details |
