You have a point but the underlying problem is hunger. Everything to an hungry man is food. People became cannibals in the bible to the extent of eating their children when there was a famine. Africa is currently the poorest and hungriest continent in the world.

Hunger is the underlying problem and unless it is addressed, people will eat anything to preserve their lives before thinking of conservation of animals.

Most Asians do not eat anything for survival again. But many Africans will eat anything just to survive.
