Concerns are deepening that Nigeria may be drifting towards a one-party state as the once-dominant Peoples Democratic Party struggles to retain its few remaining strongholds following a wave of defections by its governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress.https://punchng.com/hurricane-tinubu-taraba-plateau-adamawa-govs-face-defection-dilemma/

Inspite of all these defections, the APC has still not built the momentum that one can confidently say that they have won the 2027 elections. Something is clearly lacking somewhere. It's just a lot of motion with little to no momentum. Politicians won their elections on the strength of Buhari’s popularity, Tinubu is hoping to win his by leveraging on the "popularity" of other politicians. It is not the same. |

Emilokan may be terrible at governance but you have to give it to him, man knows the right button to press to woo people to his side.. he understudied the weakness of an average Nigerian elite - and fed that weakness. Trust me this is not an easy skill in Politics, esp when done on a national scale. If you want to know how difficult it is.. a governor in this country was stifled by his godfather in office and even later placed under SOE.. throughout the period of that ordeal, he couldn't woo a single House of Assembly member to his side from the opposing camp. That gift is only for those that know the game. Once again, well done, emilokan 🙌🏼🙌🏼 |

When u have a man that know how to run a strong cartel for decades as a president, he will run the country the only way he knows best ...the governors running to APC are those who are unsure whether their performances will guarantee their second term...so they have to rally around APC, so that when APC do the magic they used to do after elections, everyone will be returning to their seats... |

Governor Muftwang will loss his reelection bid if he decamps 📌💯 “It’s true that there has been pressure on me,” Mutfwang said. “But I told them only two entities can authorise me to change my party — the God of heaven and you, the people.” Turning to the audience, he asked, “Have you asked me to go anywhere?” The crowd responded with a thunderous “No.” |

I think some of them are in the final tenure and are just jostling for appointments there after and to be shielded by the government against EFCC. |

These defections will not solve the problems the country is facing. Let they themselves focus on their duty as democratically elected officials/authorities, and their works will speak for them. Consider former governors of Lagos State, Lateef Jakande and Babatunde Fashola, their names and legacies CAN NOT be erased by anyone. And did they defect to any part(y(ies)? NO! I can boldly tell you that Raji Fashola made ACN/APC popular with his works. So please, stop all these unnecessary defections… it's annoying, because at the end, only their parties change, but not their personalities. |

Somehow, Nigerians have lost interest in politics. First they lost trust in the system, then the emergence of Tinubu sealed it by making them lose interest entirely in it. Currently, no one even cares about what is happening in PDP, APC, LP, or ANPP. |

I welcome the idea of a one party state. At least we would have done away with the pretense that we are practicing a democracy. Afterall, the Chinese Communist Party has shown that you do not need multi-party democracy to bring exponential economic growth and prosperity to your country. Democracy was never for you. Una been dey deceive unasef. Asiwaju carry go! |
| Re: Hurricane Tinubu: Taraba, Plateau, Adamawa Govs Face Defection Drama by Tareq1105: 11:19am On Oct 29, 2025 |
Safyqueen:What you're seeing is the gathering of powers. Parties are funded by Govs. More Govs in your party, it's more money to the party. Let no one be deceived, politics and probability of winning an election is about perception. More Govs in your fold help to swing votes. APC tinubu is building the perception for Nigeria and Nigerians to see. After which many undecided voters would vote for APC and whatever happened, the initial perception built will help to reduce the opposition / agitations when the results are released. |
