Why Nigerians Must Prioritize Their Health - 24Telemed

I've seen my fair share of medical emergencies. But one case that still resonates with me is a recent outreach we conducted in Kano.

It was a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing one's health and presenting early for medical checks.

During our medical mission in the ancient city, a man walked in looking healthy and fit.

However, upon checking his blood pressure, it read a staggering 193/133 - an emergency case by any standard.

My team sprang into action, and I'm glad we were able to intervene in time.

An emergency case already and these are the kind of situations where a person goes to sleep and never wakes up, or a situation that can cause stroke or heart failure.

It's a reality that hits home, and I shudder to think what would have happened if he hadn't presented himself when he did.

If we hadn't intervened when we did, he would have likely been counted among the dead. But thanks to our team's prompt action, he's alive today. This is a pointer to the power of timely medical intervention.

So, what's the takeaway from this experience? It's simple: Nigerians must prioritize their health.

Presenting early to the hospital and going for regular check-ups can have a significant impact on the treatment and management of diseases. Don't wait until it's too late.

That's why I always advocate for telemedicine. With telemedicine, you're always just a phone call away from your doctors and medical professionals. Medicine is always better when it's not an emergency. You can get the care you need from the comfort of your own home, without having to worry about the hassle and cost of hospital visits.

The sad truth is that many people are walking around daily without knowing their health status, and this is bad. Don't let that be you. Take control of your health today. Get regular check-ups, and don't hesitate to seek medical attention if you're feeling unwell. Trust me, it's worth it.

193/133? That was a dead man walking. It was just going to be a matter of time. When we hear that people just slump and die, high BP is a major reason why.

If you get high BP wey you still dey eat noodles, you no dey try for yourself ooo. I say make I update you. The acceptable and recommended daily intake of sodium is less than 2300mg. One noodle pack alone contains over 800mg. Make we no eat wetin dey kill us.

You might think you're right, but I am certain you would not want to be down with stroke in your youth.

This is one of the reasons why people have to be cautious.

Same thing happened some years ago when we did free medical checkup. We checked this man’s bp and it was almost 200. He was on his way to a wedding that morning.

being cautious is not by going to hospital up nd down and checking for things that arent there, they will be cashing out your money on a monthly basis. I no go go there unless there is a sign.

It is good for one to take care of his health. Most important is what we put into our bodies ...the foods we eat. Going for check ups sounds nice ... but what is the reality? The hassle to get to the hospital ... the expense ... then the predators forming doctors that will mostly will claim an emergency situation to exploit you. It is then you'll find out you have cancer ... your kidney is bad ... your heart has a problem. The ch check up visit can really raise one's blood pressure and cause on to drop dead..It is th bright thing to do ...but with these vultures?

Indeed!

Lots of people have no signs; they just slump and get stroke paralysed.

This is not even an argument.

Learn from a superior argument when one is presented.

If you're scared they would find something, just check bp and sugar levels. These checks can be done at your local pharmacy or chemist. Those ones are not 'predatory'. But if you need to see a doctor, please do so. Better to find out on time, it saves money and lives in the long run.

Attendant poverty is a challenge. Where people cannot afford basic food to eat, you'll not expect them to willingly go to the hospital for a checkup. Someone categorically told me he'll rather not know of any ailment in his body when there is a free checkup Goin on somewhere

No doubt! ... and I want to believe those two ...BP and BS are most important... and it doesn't cost much to get the monitors.

It's not the noodles that contain the sodium itself. It's just the spices packaged with it.

How old are you. If you indulge in a bad habit, the effect does not show immediately. It is a long years of abuse that eventually does the destruction.
