Someone named his child Ndubuisi meaning that life is the most important of all. Many who have neglected and abused their health are no more. No sickness kills without giving early signs and symptoms. It's just that we are too busy with work to take care of our health.
I recently noticed a problem in my body and I've booked an appointment with my medical doctor tomorrow which means that I will be suspending tomorrow's work because my health is non negotiable. Work can continue when I've recovered.

Something like a Health Day was organised by my church and the medical personnels were checking vitals. I decided to check and it was 175/100 or something. Alarming! The nurse said if it were in the hospital that I checked, they would've admitted me straight. Meanwhile, In my body, I felt nothing. I felt healthy, I was even hurrying them cause I wan go minister upstairs. Irony!

After the check, they counseled me and gave drugs. You know what I did? The drugs that were specifically BP drugs, I didn't use them. I am too young to be on BP drugs cause they said once I start, I can't stop!

Now, I still don't use BP drugs but it's normalised by itself. I still checked last week. The idea is to keep checking.

Yes me too. I get apprehensive. I guess it's the fear that you'd measure something abysmal again.

Yes, I did something to my diet. No bread, very minimal soft drinks, I eat early, no late night meals. I trek a lot too. Those things are not easy to do because there will be relapses but you gotta keep your focus on your goals. I even lost some weight, though not much.

Nigerians prioritize health. Why it is as if they do not prioritize their health is that they hardly get quality medical attention when they visit facilities. Medical profession is now exclusive reserve of children from reach home and this has birthed incompetency to the highest level esp. among the medical doctors. Nigerians rather choose to self medicate than to visit a facility because most of them are bored with what is currently happening in hospitals across the country.

Another health thread where JSS 2 boys will post everything they got from ubiquitous phone AIs while never attempting any activity.

I’ve started checking my BP frequently and taking measures to keep it in check. I eat less now despite my love for hearty meals. I take milkshakes and smoothies whenever possible. I’m learning recipes. I still exercise religiously, the only reason I haven’t dropped dead since. For work stress, I’m starting to appoint colleagues to take my slots. They don’t believe a human should rest. I do. I don’t want to die before my time.

Which doctor will take your money if you buy a BP monitor and bathroom scale?

always247:
being cautious is not by going to hospital up nd down and checking for things that arent there, they will be cashing out your money on a monthly basis. I no go go there unless there is a sign.
Re: Why Nigerians Must Prioritize Their Health - 24telemed by meobizy(m): 1:30am On Nov 08, 2025
This mindset killed three of my relatives. They had conditions which they refused to check and died as a result.

What of daily exercise? What of buying a BP monitor and bathroom scale? Prevention is better than cure is not just a saying, it is a mantra. Many are in this thread chanting health is wealth while they consumed green and brown bottles earlier in the evening.

Originalsly:
It is good for one to take care of his health. Most important is what we put into our bodies ...the foods we eat. Going for check ups sounds nice ... but what is the reality? The hassle to get to the hospital ... the expense ... then the predators forming doctors that will mostly will claim an emergency situation to exploit you. It is then you'll find out you have cancer ... your kidney is bad ... your heart has a problem. The ch check up visit can really raise one's blood pressure and cause on to drop dead..It is th bright thing to do ...but with these vultures?

Nothing for happen to that man if he didn't check the bp.
I consume excess sugar on a steady and I'm addicted to pepsi as I drink more than three bottles daily.
I can't count number of times I have invested heavy amounts of money on sportybet but lost all...
Why Bp no kill me?
I belive you are still young. As you age the body is not able to withstand somethings it did when you were young. As from 40 and above you have to take these things seriously

I believe in regular BP and blood sugar checs. However, i have noticed there is a lot of faulty BP monitors around. Even if you are told you have high readings, do another check. For example, in the picture attached, the man's heartbeat shows 106. Why should a resting heart rate be 106? Except the man had just exercised before checking his BP.

Anyway, people should learn to double check. I once called out a hospital for saying I had high BP. My BP machine at home gives me a steady average reading and the hospital's BP showed my BP was high. On my next visit to that hospital, they had changed their BP machine. Imagine how many people are taking unnecessary BP medication because of fauty readings.

That being said, know your numbers, so that you can detect a faulty reading when given. Do your checks regularly.

For me, how accurate are these digital health machines compared to the manual. Especially the BP scanner.

Wonder why hospitals (government and private) still use the manual sphygmomanometer? That should answer your question.

I hope you don't end up learning the hard way and your situation becomes a lesson for others. With stroke, you might not have a second chance. And with HBP, there's usually no signs.
Nobody go cash out on you for checking your BP, it is free of charge. And if you have HBP/hypertension, the medication is cheap

It can be checked against the reliable manual one by health practitioners to see if it is accurate or needs plus or minus

I know but most medical and health outreach do you use the digital machines. Only small health centres uses the manual. And I doubt if private hospitals use manual machine they will want to look "tuush" and appealing

It is called White Coat Hypertension. Buy one and learn how to use it properly and start measuring it yourself at home once in a while and see if there's a significant difference between the ones at the hospitals and the ones at home. I have the same condition

80% of BP machines in Nigeria are fake, their readings are never correct. I can categorically tell you that the best thing is to look for an authentic one and buy for personal use. If you are not above 40 years I don't recommend taking any BP drugs except you trust your doctor just work on what you consume.

This our country ehn.

I equally share your concerns, but please There's not issue of fake BP machine, let's be guided pls. You can have a malfunctioning one, which is easy to detect, fix, or replace. You can don't go to the extreme condeming machines when it's peoples ignorance that's the problem. You can give the best machines to people and they will still get terrible readings as result of ignorance. What are the best way of optimizing the machines should be your question. This is serious matter

If u lack sugar in ur body,u are a goner. It is even better and easier to control high BP than low PB.

So,stop lying and mis informing people.

How old are you. If you indulge in a bad habit, the effect does not show immediately. It is a long years of abuse that eventually does the destruction.
Well I'm in m early 30's now and I was planning on getting married and several times I tried to get down with my spouse I realised my John Thomas wasn't standing and as a result I couldn't perform and I had no morning erections.
I was later diagnosed with Erectile Dysfunction and the doctor recommended I stay away from sugar
