Juliet Ochime: Raped & Killed! Murderers Roam Free In Lagos by Omihanifa(op): 2:26am On Nov 08, 2025
The quiet stretch of Mopo Road on United Estate, Sangotedo, Ajah, conceals a tragedy that has shaken residents and sparked outrage across Nigeria.

On a recent visit, the faint rhythm of church drums drifted from a nearby street, yet the road itself lay eerily deserted. Half of its unpaved stretch was overrun with wild grass, giving the area a neglected, abandoned feel.

At the heart of the estate lies the uncompleted structure where 28-year-old Juliet Ochime was allegedly beaten, raped, and left to die on Sunday, October 3, 2025.

Saturday PUNCH observed that the building had no gate, exposing it to anyone who cared to enter. Three small shops stood nearby, one by the entrance and two on the left-hand side, all locked.

With multiple access routes, the estate makes it easy for people to move in and out freely.

Juliet, a talented fashion designer, hailed from Ohuye village in the Akunda Ito community, Obi Local Government Area of Benue State. Since the incident, residents have remained behind closed doors, while shop owners whisper fearfully about the tragedy.

Her death has sparked outrage both online and within her community, with family members demanding justice for what they describe as a “senseless killing.”

News of death

According to Juliet’s younger brother, Job Ochime, news of his sister’s death reached him in the most unexpected and devastating way.

“On Monday, October 4, my sister’s neighbour called me around 6 a.m. to tell me about an incident that had occurred the previous day, Sunday, October 3, around 1 p.m. She said my sister had a confrontation with some people. This neighbour is someone I usually contact whenever I cannot reach my sister,” he recalled.

The neighbour urged him to come to Ajah immediately. “I asked what had happened, and she said my sister had given up. I was shocked and asked, ‘Given up how? Was she sick?’ She replied that she wasn’t. I quickly dressed and rode my bike from Festac to Ajah,” Job said.

On the way, he received another call from the neighbour. “She told me to go to the police station first before heading to the scene. That’s when she finally confirmed that someone had killed my sister,” he added.

Job later learned that Juliet had allegedly broken the windshield of a Toyota Corolla belonging to a man known as Kingsley following an argument.

“The man reportedly called three people who took her to an uncompleted building. There, they tied her up, beat her mercilessly, and raped her before she died,” Job alleged.

Police investigation, arrests

Job rushed to Ogombo Police Station to report the crime. Three officers accompanied him to the estate, and what he saw there would haunt him forever.

“When we got there, I will never forget the sight of my sister’s lifeless body lying on the ground. She had given up in the early hours of Monday,” he said quietly.

According to Job, the police arrested the car owner’s wife, his younger brother, and the brother’s wife, while the car owner himself had fled. “I was told the men who attacked her were residents of the estate, not outsiders.

Her body was wrapped in a brown window blind before we took her to Ogombo Police Station. From there, I had to quickly raise money to deposit her body at Mosunmola Ajayi private morgue at Thomas Village Estate, Ajah,” he explained.

The grieving brother described the condition of Juliet’s body as a painful testament to the torture she endured.

“When I saw her body, I could see clear signs of severe beating and bruises all over her. It was obvious she had suffered immensely before giving up the ghost,” he recalled.

The case was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, where the suspects were interrogated.

“The officer asked them why they killed my sister over a N60,000 Corolla windshield. They said even if she had damaged a car or helicopter, they could have simply asked her to pay for the repairs. Instead, they beat her mercilessly, humiliated, and even stripped her naked, leaving her to die,” Job said.

Job told Saturday PUNCH that he learned Juliet screamed for help while she was being beaten, prompting some neighbours to alert the estate’s Chief Security Officer.

“They untied her and even started recording videos of her while she lay motionless on the ground. According to reports, she was still alive when they untied her. They should have rushed her to a hospital, but they abandoned her there, assuming she would regain consciousness,” he said.

A mother’s grief

Job said their mother was devastated by the tragedy.

“Our mother is heartbroken. She had not seen my sister for about five years and was preparing to visit her when this tragedy happened,” he said softly, tears welling in his eyes.
Describing Juliet’s character, Job said she was “a hardworking tailor and fashion designer.”
He appealed to the authorities for justice.

“We are appealing for justice for her. People from our village to Lagos and across the country have been calling, expressing shock. Even on social media, people are saying what happened to her is cruel and unacceptable,” he added.

Suspects still roaming freely

Job alleged that the three men Kingsley called to assault Juliet were still moving freely on the estate.

“People say they have seen them around, but when we contact the police, they keep saying it is not their job. We know two of them by name, Ijoba and Matthew, but we do not know the third person,” he said.

He also accused the estate manager of withholding crucial evidence.

“We asked for the footage showing when they untied my sister and found her naked so the police could use it as evidence, but he refused,” Job said.

He added that he later received a call informing him that one of the suspects was at home.

“I called the police immediately, but the officer asked me, ‘Are you going to do this job for me?’ We have no one to fight for us except God. We want all those involved arrested and prosecuted,”
he said.

She was a good girl”

Juliet’s elder brother, Uche Friday, shared his anguish over the tragedy.

He said the younger brother of Kingsley, who was later released, claimed he was in church when the incident occurred. “When he was informed that someone had, damaged his brother’s car windshield, he reportedly told them not to harm her. But they did not listen,” Uche said.

Describing Juliet, Uche said, “She was calm, respectful, and a good person. I do not even know what to say anymore. All we want now is justice for our sister.”

He also recalled the distressing sight of her body. “When I saw her dead body, I was helpless.” The family paid N150,000 to deposit her body at the morgue and was charged N5,000 daily for seven days.

“We are appealing to Nigerians to help us get justice for our sister. That is all we want,” Uche pleaded.

She was mentally unstable – Estate management

An executive member of the estate, Uche Nelson, told Saturday PUNCH that Juliet had long struggled with drug addiction and mental health issues but did not deserve mob justice.

“She was a drug addict for as long as we can remember. However, that does not justify people taking the law into their own hands,” Nelson said.

He explained that Juliet was attacked by the vehicle owner’s relatives and a security guard after allegedly breaking the car’s windshield.

“Our investigation revealed that she broke the windshield of a vehicle. In the process, the vehicle owner’s wife, his brother, and a security man started beating her. Unfortunately, that assault led to her death,” he said.

Nelson disclosed that the suspects had been handed over to the police for further investigation.

“As we speak, the suspects are now with the police,” he added.

The man noted that there was another version of the story suggesting that Juliet was taken to an uncompleted building where she eventually died.

Residents described the building as a place where she usually stayed with a few others, whom they referred to as miscreants,” Nelson explained.

He added that the vehicle owner had fled the area, while his wife and brother had been arrested.

“The man who owns the vehicle is currently at large, but his wife and brother have been apprehended. The brother is said to live in the same compound as the vehicle owner. Both suspects have been handed over to the police for proper investigation,”
he said.

“We also summoned the landlord of the house where the two brothers live, but he has not responded. We wanted to hear his version of the incident as well, since he is responsible for both men,” Nelson said.

Igede community demands justice

Meanwhile, Public Relations Officer for Ito Youths Association, Lagos Branch, John Ona, urged all Igede indigenes living in Ajah and Lekki to rise in protest.

“Let’s not remain silent while evil thrives. Today it’s Juliet; tomorrow it could be another innocent soul. Let’s rise for justice,” he declared.

A resident who preferred to remain anonymous to avoid being targeted by those involved in the matter expressed fear over the incident, saying, “I doubt if anyone will speak out because they don’t want trouble. That building has no gate, and I can’t understand how someone could kill a human being just over a car windshield. It’s wrong.”

Another resident highlighted the area’s isolation. “Look at this environment. If someone is attacked here, they might not get help immediately because it’s such a quiet place. It’s possible she called for help and no one heard her,” he said

Case under investigation

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said,

“Three suspects, including two females and one male, have been arrested in connection with the incident. The case, along with the suspects, has been transferred to the State CID, Panti, for further investigation.”

But why did she break the man's windscreen?

It's not an excuse to be killed. But I am asking to know what happened that led to breaking a windshield.
