Outrage in Bayelsa as police Inspector brutalise three children over allege membership of witchcraft

There is rising outrage in Yenagoa,the Bayelsa State capital over the alleged brutalisation of three children by a Police Inspector Father in the state

The accused Police Inspector, Sunday Ude attached to the Anti-Cultism unit of the Igbogene police unit brutally assaulted his children at the weekend over allegations of being members of a witchcraft.

It was gathered that concerned neighbours quickly alerted men of the State Security Patrol unit, Door Akpor and rescued the brutalised children to the hospital.

Members of the Anti-Gender based violence groups, the Chairperson of International Federation of Women Lawyers, Bayelsa chapter led by Dr. Boma Toney Miebai, the National Association of Women Against Gender Based Violence led by Dr. Dise Ogbise Goddy Harry and the Chairperson of the Do Foundation, Bayelsa chapter, Barr. Dianna Iluma Pius reacted to the incident and incident the matter to the police.

The Ministry of Women Affairs and Gender represented by the Permanent Secetary also quickly moved to the Police station and hospital for first hand information on the incident.

According to Dr. Boma Toney Miebai, the FIDA and the WAGBV have incidents the case at the Akenfa Police Station and pushing for charges of attempted murder, criminal assault but expressed the fear for the safety of the children while recieving treatment at the hospital.

Dr. Dise Ogbise Goddy Harry however commended the State Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu for his quick response and order for the arrest of the accused Police Inspector, " the CP has ordered the arrest of the accused and the transfer of the case to the police headquarters.".

She confirmed that despite the critical nature of the case of the brutalised children, their condition are now stable," we are calling on public spirited individuals and group to àssist them in getting their lives back."

When our correspondent contacted the State Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu, he confirmed the development and said the accused policeman have been arrested.

It is horrifying that any human being would torture his own children this way. The demon who inflicted these injuries must be summarily expelled from the police force and placed on trial for assault and battery amounting to attempted murder, preparatory to his spending many years in jail for this horrendous crime.
