Mamdani has not said he will tell landlords what to charge. What he said he will and can do is freeze government owned social housing rent.

As for tax. I don't have a problem with the uber wealthy paying a couple percent more. It's not exactly gonna hurt a trillion dollar ceo much I don't think. But if they that greedy and selfish and don't wanna pay, they can bugger off to Iowa.
Here is Peter Thiel’s email to Zuck and Andreessen in Jan-2020 predicting socialism.

Tl;dr too much student debt and lack of affordable housing keeps young people with negative capital for too long. And without a stake in the capitalist system, they will turn against it.

84% of Gen Z women voted for Mamdani.

Climate Change is real. They tells us it's the greatest threat.
Read Bill Gates essay

https://www.gatesnotes.com/home/home-page-topic/reader/three-tough-truths-about-climate

In a few decades, cataclysmic climate change will decimate civilization. The evidence is all around us—just look at all the heat waves and storms caused by rising global temperatures. Nothing matters more than limiting the rise in temperature.

Fortunately for all of us, this view is wrong. Although climate change will have serious consequences—particularly for people in the poorest countries—it will not lead to humanity’s demise. People will be able to live and thrive in most places on Earth for the foreseeable future. Emissions projections have gone down, and with the right policies and investments, innovation will allow us to drive emissions down much further.

Unfortunately, the doomsday outlook is causing much of the climate community to focus too much on near-term emissions goals, and it’s diverting resources from the most effective things we should be doing to improve life in a warming world.

It's a scare tactic. The underlying theme has been to wrench control of energy from Big Oil.

It's common sense . A revolution has a way of eating it's own. When progressives bloat government with too many freebies, drive up debt and bring in freeloaders in their bid o consolidate political power , the results may not always go their way.
Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries will get mauled by any Mamdani challenger. AOC is safe territory. 50.6% of New Yorkers voting for him makes Mamdani a key player in the Democrat party.

In fact, basilico, what does UK spend road tax on?!
Their ( govt) solution to not pay road tax is to have 15 minute cities. Everything is 15 minutes away . No vehicles needed. Where you can be fined for moving out of your zone.
That's the end goal. Control movement.

Why would you think it's a scare tactic. The truth is that Western Nations as well as China have abused the atmosphere for far too long.

They do not want poor countries to industrialise.

Poor countries do not even emit up to ten percent of carbon emissions.

The real design is by the right wing to make it look false because they want to remain permanently corrupt and greedy above all else.

There is a very good Documentary done by Sir David Attenborough which shows how real climate change is. It is an existential threat and it is coming for all of us.

Only people like you will always defend whatever your master says.

I really don't think you understand what you are saying. Even just trying to underestimate the threat of Climate Change.

If at all you have data, try watch this documentary.

Your attempts to inform someone like him is in vain.

We've had this exact same discussion in the past.

Notice how his argument against CC is just a quote from some rich guy, and has nothing to do with statements from published climate researchers, or Data from climate studies and observations?
Even the bill gates quote acknowledges the factuality and threat of climate change, he just doesn't think it will affect him, doesn't view it as an existential threat.

This is not a particularly helpful statement. It's akin to saying he believes "changing weather" is not a thing.

Yes, the climate changes, nobody disputes that. The questions and debates are around,

1. is the climate changing for the worse (especially long-term and relative to historical patterns)
2. is the climate changing for the worse due to human - anthropogenic - activity
3 if so, what should or, can be done about it
4. and at what cost and to what effect

The science is not settled - as ever. There are lots of well qualified people who demur. And carbon which is fingered as the main culprit, is actually a greening gas, as well as the essence of all life forms.

Your statement - which I have seen evident in much of the discourse here - is , is designed to smear and belittle and typically weakens whatever position your are arguing for.

It was quite painful to read in what I'll describe as the "anti-coonery" discussion. In fact, you and your co-travellers managed to make coonery sound aspirational, such was the weakness of your arguments.

Wrong on 2 Counts.

1. The interest of the right wing is simply to sustain industrialization at all costs. If they reduce their emissions by say fifty percent, this discussion is over. Meanwhile they would want poorer countries to bear the burden of reducing further, which at the end of the day will mean they cannot produce and equalise with advanced economies.

Please try not to gaslight me over what I know with 100 percent certainty.

2. I don't know how you mean I and my co travellers managed to make coonery aspirational. You must have mistaken me for someone else, because my entire argument it is the EXACT OPPOSITE. Second point. I do hope you understand that the reason right wingers claim climate change is not real is because they believe it will not affect rich countries.

If a tsunami comes from the ocean, most of them have ways to protect themselves. And that's exactly why they think it will affect poor countries more, but that's simply not true.

I will use an analogy.

Melinda Gates said she can't believe what will happen in Africa over COVID. She expected dead bodies to be all over the streets. She really didn't know that COVID was always going to affect white people more for many reasons.

As such, by this analogy I hope you understand what I am saying. Making the assumption that poor countries will suffer more from climate change is simply simplistic. The truth is far more nuanced.

Also I don't agree with what you say about the times of the Earths renewal. Many ancient civilizations unknown to this current one have been destroyed by the effects of weather, asteroids, comets, and advanced technology such as nuclear weapons. It's high time this civilization should be careful with climate because the Earth has a way of ridding itself of poison.

A word is enough for the wise.

Work on Climate Change has to start from those who affect it most. Namely the most industrialised countries.

The science is not settled -
1. Yes, the climate is changing for the worse and at a faster rate than ever before.

2. Human - anthropogenic - activity is a significant contributor to climate change due to the fact that humans tend to impact the environments with their activities and this warms up the climate.

3. Stop dirtying!

4. At a huge cost. You humans have been polluting the earth ever since your first existence so you have a lot of arrears to make up with interest. But if that's too much, pay what you are charged now.

5. Air. The oxygen you breath. Remember water was once free. A time will come when humans will have to ration breathing because of pay and breath. We will fix meter to your mouth and nose and heart to bill and tax you.

2. How significant? How much is this human activity contributing to "warming"? What are the attributable effects?
3. Life is messy, as is human advancement - deal with it. Not to say we can't act in a manner to treat our environment with care

Assert all you will.

Meanwhile they would want poorer countries to war the burden of reducing further, which at the end of the day will mean they cannot produce and equaliser with advanced economies.
Please present data\evidence that a reduction of emissions by 50% (and I working on the basis that by "they", you mean more fully industrialised, i.e. western nations) will eliminate the negative effects of climate change - if any! I don't give a rats arse about the ideological positioning, show the data.

DeepSight:
Please try not to gaslight me over what I know with 100 percent certainty.
Point in question - no one knows with 100% certainty. What you have\are is committed to a position. There is an absence of critical thought. If the ideological position was the opposite, you would argue accordingly. Please present the evidence

DeepSight:
2. I don't know how you mean I and my co travellers managed to make coonery aspirational. You must have mistaken me for someone else, because my entire argument it is the EXACT OPPOSITE. Coonery is clownish. Anyone who has no self respect and simply believes anything a white man says is simply ridiculous.
Again per the bolded undecided. That is a smear. Just because not every black-skinned person subscribes to the notion that the main or major things that have hindered black development are slavery, colonialism (by white people) and even misfortunate such as a being unfortunately placed on the meridian lines grin, doesn't make them "coons", or give you the right to smear them.

One can consider and arrive at the conclusion that there are reasons other than white intervention that has led to limited development in black communities\countries. And one can also take a position that black people are majorly responsible for their own backwardness - without recourse to whatever white people say.

Do you even know what causes a tsunami? The reasoning in this example, using a natural disaster to describe how the rich protect themselves from the poor is moot because natural disasters typically affect both the rich and poor. The Japan Fukushima episode comes to mind - fast.
