aribisala0:It is probably the other way round. "American awards" need popular African musicians to boost their image and give themselves a global reputation. |

panpan:They are focused on business My question is why some people think it is an opportunity for Diss exchanges between Ghana and Nigeria Not a few people even on this thread feel Validated by a Grammy and think that gives them bragging rights over Ghana My point is manifold Best African music category implies there is ONE music genre in Africa This is wrong even among the Yoruba we have over 10 genres Not to talk of Nigeria Just imagine if every year there was a Best Nigerian music award in London and the we have Yoruba and Igbos dissing each other about it? Is there any basis to compare Igbo and Yoruba music? They are different They have categories Reggae, Classic, Pop, Country, Jazz etc in America one country but we in Africa are just African Music Why should we accept that? Anything that causes beef among us Africans should be called out They can nominate Africans to compete with the world no problem But they cannot determine what is the best music out of Africa What happened with Tyler and Water was pure business and very disrespectful to Africans They are trying synthetically to create an African superstar that is not too black that they can sell to white people A new Rihanna Maybe Tems is too black With AI it will not take 10 years before they appropriate it all and kick Africans out if you don't wake up |

aribisala0:It shall be well with you for this comment. I had an argument this year about the Grammy awards and how it has become so small for the type of material that is coming out of Africa and deeper Europe like Luxembourg and Switzerland. As a matter of fact, it has become tooooooooooooooooooo small to accommodate American music. Africa needs to quit the shenanigans and try to address this issue. We have become too big for the grammies. |

aribisala0:The mentality of "What is our business with Grammy?" simply because it did not originate from you. There is a Miss Universe that has always been headquartered in NYC, yet all countries send reps and it doesn't stop us from having our own. So you get the point: nothing stops us from having our own while at same time participating in what the world participates in. If we decide "what is our business with OLYMPICS?" because it is not native to us and does not include some of our traditional games, who loses? WE OURSELVES, nobody else! |

AllBlack:Not only Grammys, you have become too big for Olympics, Miss Universe, UN, the Dollar, Oscar's best foreign fillm, Nobel Prize, etc. Get the point? Nothing stops you from having your own while participating in the world standard (while working to right any wrongs in the Grammys or even taking it over - which is possible in capitalist America). But if you refuse to participate, you are the one that loses. aribisala0 doesn't know what he's talking about! |

aribisala0:Bro, this isn't a problem, or Americans determining the best African music. It's just an international recognition of African music. |

aribisala0:Let's be realistic. Have you ever felt a need to travel and further ur education? Do you rely on foreign tools/softwares/instruments to do your daily task?, the car you drive is it made in Africa?. European own everything broski. Sad reality even d system of government u run, d cloths u wear etc. They set the standards Africans follow sadly but truthfully so |

aribisala0:Africans don't celebrate nor appreciate their very own. That's why Headies award had to go to Atlanta, Georgia just for image and recognition sake. |

Nelochukwu:That’s how you see these things Whatever Both you and those complaining about Davido Wiz Burna getting Grammys gotta rest You got grammy or not You stay you However, every award shows the organizers consider you worthy of the awards Stop comparing awards Just take them as one of things they organize Whatever you consider as criteria for rating or appreciating artists is your case |

aribisala0:BTS has been nominated for various individual categories like best video, best pop but, never won. Think they have the most nominations from k pop. Even when gangman style came and dominated the airwaves as the most popular song of the year, psy never won. They will never allow Asians and Africans win those popular categories though they merited it. I understand where you are coming from. The same with Nigerian movie producers wanting to produce for Netflix until majority of them snobbed Netflix and took things by their hand and start promoting their movies through YouTube channels. They make more money, has more views and is the single highest employer of labour presently in Nigeria. And we are proud of them. We watch them to promote them. Nigerian musicians are yet to come to that realisation. Whe they do, they willfind out they do not need America to soar. China is a typical example. They are even challenging Netflix and their movie industry has billions of views for dramas. I relate with their dramas more than Hollywood so I stopped subscribing for Netflix and concentrated on Asia and naija. Period. Africans have that inferiority complex especially west africa cos other parts of Africa no send. I live abroad and I can boldly tell you that a Zimbabwean and the rest of them are not ready to change their accent for anything. When you see a Nigerian abroad you will know even if na last 2 days he show. |

Nelochukwu:In your mind you think you are making sense? What is the connection between using a car and what I wrote So because I use cars and software I should start marrying men? I must copy everything? If you have nothing to say keep quiet Your analogies are silly |

DiarisGodoo:Your last statement is the only purpose you wrote all this trash. Talk about the Olympics if you choose, I restrict my comment and scope to the the Grammy alone for a reason. Feel free to add rowing competitions if you wish. |

aribisala0:Maybe you need more understanding as well & I have a feeling that you might be a Ghanian. Let me school a bit for you to understand, the Grammy award can be liking to the fifa World Cup, so can you now ask why can’t Africa play is own World Cup replica and shun fifa World Cup? After just as we have Afcon so there UEFA cup and so is Africa music award and Grammy . So stop the hate . |

DiarisGodoo:Before I respond I have not come to you to sell my opinion So talking about people and their mentality when they express an opinion indicates a tendency to bullying My opinion is my opinion keep your opinion and let me keep mine No that is not the mentality at all Clearly you did not comprehend my point My point has been repeated ad nauseum It is not appropriate to put all of African music into one category with one award There are fewer people in America than Africa fewer genres than even in Nigeria and they. have multiple award categories for their own music All the award winners are signed to American labels It is impossible to overlook that Can anybody not signed to an American label win? They don't have anything like Best American Act Even in Nigeria we have Fuji , juju Highlife, Apala Ogene etc It is not appropriate to talk of Best Nigerian Act Not to talk of the whole of Africa No doubt there are dozens of genres in Africa that we Don't even know about Culture is very different from Olympics You put 2 or more people on a track and the first to cross the line wins so Olympic is a silly comparison Music in Africa is very spiritual and sacred It is not a game In Yoruba land some drums are beat once a year. Or less frequently We should not sell our culture for cheap baubles Culture and Art should bring friendship not animosity That we have an individual think it is a good idea to create a thread to Diss Ghana is evidence that the award does not serve us Just like they have award ceremony recognising and celebrating multiple genres in their country so should we in Nigeria and other African countries that is my mindset We are not participating in the Grammys it is a form of affirmative action award that divides us In this era of AI we need to be very vigilant The Grammys is an award with very strong commercial control Tyler Grammy Award was very synthetic I liked the song Water but there is nothing African about it That cannot be the best African song any day |

AllBlack: aribisala0:I think the problem is that you two think the Grammys is controlled by the govt. IT IS A COMMERCIAL ENTERPRISE! It can be bought and sold, influenced and changed! It is like saying you'd no longer participate in sexiest man alive. or man of the year, or the dollar. These are ESTABLISHED things. No one prevents you from trying to also establish your own - while still participating in it! Best thing is try to change it or buy it - like the Thai company that bought US-founded Miss Universe pageant! Imagine if instead Thailand had pulled out! |

WizardOfNG:see theory Where was this diversity when Tiny Jamaica dominated the air waves Nigeria.does not have more outstanding talent than Ghana Winning or not winning Grammy is not proof of talent or lack of it It is proof of business acumen , and financial support A very good example is Tyler Is she the best talented female in Africa or even South Africa? She is a manufactured star It will be possible in less than 5 years to manufacture AI stars with African characters Ghana like every other African country is brimming with talent That doesn't guarantee commercial success Let us not allow Grammy to create unnecessary gloating, division or pride among African people |
